11.2oz bottle bb 9/1/19 poured into a chalice at fridge temp 6.5% ABV. The beer pours bright reddish brown with short lived light brown head. The head recedes to a paper thin island with no lacing. The aroma is faint with caramel and some yeasty clove notes. The taste is burnt sugar, pepper, clove and maybe a hint of banana. The mouthfeel is medium to thin bodied, highly carbonated and mostly dry in the finish. The beer is balanced with bitterness seeming to be more roasty that hop driven. Overall, ok, but most all abbey beers are better. Scored as a Belgian dark ale not a dubbel.

Head holds up throughout the drinking session and pours a deep, dark amber color; it was like a Mahogany Rush (like the Montreal rock band!). Slight bitterness (probably more than there should be though) with malt overtones and aromas. Very good beer to drink as you watch football in December.

L: drops bright dark brown filled with streams of rapidly rising bubbles that support a lacy 2.5" tan cap with good retention

S: It smells of dark dried fruit, dark dense bread, and very faint banana.

T: mildly sweet and tastes like a fresh slice of dark banana bread with dark dried fruit, raisins, a hint of nuts, and some dark toast and a very faint hint of chocolate, dark caramel and spice

F: Creamy, mousse-like texture with a medium to medium light body and above average carbonation

O: This is a flavorful and easy to drink but is somewhat tame.

Smells rather like a weizen than a belgian. Tastes like roasted malts, luckily no trace of the sickening yeast, with an aftertaste of caramel/toffee. Altogether not bad though it is rather boring. Not outstanding, I must say.
