Thanks to thehand for this extra from a recent trade.

Ugh, unfortunate volcano effect as I lost a good deal of the bottle upon opening. This is a 22oz bomber poured into a Duvel tulip glass. Dark brown to black color, fizzy and well carbonated (obvious after the eruption). Smell is very sweet: a combination of candy sugar and grapes. Taste is sweet as well with more sweet dark grape juice, pears, and other fruits. Fairly light bodied and pretty easy to drink, this is a pleasant surprise.

Poured from a 22oz bomber into a St. Bernardus goblet. Extra special thanks to thehand for this extra in our recent trade!

A: Pours a color like the "Burnt Orange" Crayola crayon. Hazy and quite actively carbonated. Sitting on top is a beautiful layer of light tan cream that forms a perfectly silky blanket. Retention is fantastic and large ropes and chunks of lace are left clinging to the glass.

S: Big nose of toffee, candi sugar, and plums. Along the way I also noticed vanilla, caramel, pan roasted nuts, more dark fruit, spices, tangy orchard fruit, toasted malt, and some vaguely tropical hops.

T: Flavors of dark fruit, toffee, nuts, candi sugar, and tangy fruit. Also noted were caramel, milk chocolate, grassy hops, and a vaguely metallic/mineral flavor. The flavors are very nice, but the taste doesn't pop quite like the smell does.

M: Creamy, sweet, and slick in the beginning and for much of the middle. As the finish begins to come about, the mouthfeel turns slightly drier and spicier and also with a touch of fruity tang. Nice combo of spicy hops and/or pepper & spices in the finish, as well.

D: What an excellent surprise! I'd never heard of this brewery before last week and now I'm totally eager to try more from them. Subdued sweetness and subtle spiciness plus no hint of alcohol make for an exceptional experience.

Finally cracked this bottle I received in a trade...

- Nice creamy dark brown sugar-like color with an everlasting creamy off-white head and lacing all about....

- Pleasant ester and currant scent with a robust sweet malt and sugar... little bit of alcohol and zest.

- Sweet malt... bit too sweet... but a great balance of ester fruit sweetness and Belgian yeast mix... overall nice.

- Bit sweet and sticky... but not too dry.

- Drinkable, and a very nice offering from Choc. Great carbonation and appearance... perfected for what it is!

Poured dark amber color with white 2 finger head. A= candied sugar, sweet malt. T= sweet caramel,, toffee flavor, big candied sugar comes through, also detect a slight plumb flavor too. Get a tangy, green apple undertone, I'm guessings from the yeast. Finishes sweet. Also getting some cloves flavor in the after taste, but just a touch.
M= nice thick, sticky, smooth, medium mouthfeel, pretty highly carbonated.

Overall= really nice dubbel, glad this one is made locally. Which means i can get a great Belgian for $5.50 a bomber, score.

A-Pours a hazy orange with a nicely fluffy off white head, great retention and good lacing.

S-Nice candi sugar, Belgian yeast and dark fruit.

T-Very nice. Sweet malt, lots of candi sugar balanced by a good tangy yeast background.

M-Medium bodied with lingering sweetness. A bit over carbonated.

D-Yes, that was tasty. I really enjoyed this one.

shot out to coldmeat23 for this bottle.

A - deep ruby red/light brown color. it overflowed right out of the bottle as soon as i took the cap off. massive 3 finger head with amazing retention.

S - very spicey w/ lots of raisins, dark fruits and apple skin.

T - very rich. both sweet and spicy w/ a ton of fruit and very malty, with low bitterness. In addition to the raisins and general dark fruit I taste a bit of chocolate, which adds to the growing complexity as it warms up.

MF - very very carbonated w/ a massive body

D - very approachable American made dubbel. I could go for another bombers worth right now. this would be a definate go to if we could get it out here in the Mile High. I guess for now i will have to stick w/ New Belgium's Abbey for local Belgians.

oh yeah, let this one warm up people!!

A: Pours a nice amber hue with a solid bubbly one finger cream colored head. Pretty good retention with a bit of spotty lace.

S: Lots of rich sweetness. Caramel and brown sugar stand out. Sweet red apples and yeast quickly follow.

T: Tasty malty goodness up front. Lots of caramel with hints of sweet toffee goodness. Summer fruit in the middle with hints of yeast and a touch of spice. The finish is sort of tropical. A tasty brew for sure.

M: Medium in body, very smooth, with great carbonation for the style.

D: Good, I will enjoy every bit of this bomber myself.

Looks, smells, tastes more or less, as a dubbel. Appearance of amber -golden body with some white head of yeast, and tads of lace. Medium plus mouthfeel, creamy. Smells double Belgian yeast, you know. Taste was hasher in first half of body. A spot-on dubbel, though harsher, aggressive on palate really, at least at first, than I would have thought.

A - pours a red, coppery colorand has quite a bit of carbonation

S - I got the traditional dubbel belgian yeasty nose off of this one and seem to be headin gin the right direction

T - I get the spice of the belgium yeast up front and this sweetness pours over my palate like a candy coating of sugar.
A diabetic's nightmare.

Drinkability - this was not a bad dubbel, its was a descent one. Too sweet for my taste I am glad I got to try it.

Poured a hazy dark copper, tan head.

Belgian candy, high acidity and fruitiness. Definitely taste at cool or room temperature.

Flavor hints of toffee or slight coffee. Tropical fruits with deep hops and warm bite.

High carbonation is well balanced with silky and thicker texture.

I was overall pleasantly surprised with complexities and by far my favorite to come from Pete's Place so far.

Pours hazy dark apricot with a thick foamy head.

Aroma is sweet candied sugar with a strong yeasty funk. Subdued tropical fruit and a hint of powdery chocolate.

Taste is initially sweet caramel malt. Toffee and citrus fruit - notably orange and plum. Chocolate makes an appearance with a dry powdery aspect. Surprising amount of earthy hop bitterness before the yeasty finish with lingering clove and corriander.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, quite full and soft.

A pretty good Dubbel. Surprisingly good, especially for a brewery in Oklahoma. No off flavors whatsoever. Definitely worth a try.

Poured a hazy coppery brown color with a big creamy tan head, nice retention with moderate lacing.

Has a sweet toffee nose with some pineapple and mango fruit overtones and a touch of Belgian candy sugar.

Has a nice woody flavor with hints of toffee, candi sugar, tropical fruits, and a banana yeasty goodness along with some nice earthy hops balancing it out nicely.

The mouthfeel has a nice bit of carbonation with a creamy and full thickness to it.

Very solid and spot on Dubbel, a very good American version of the Belgian classic.

Pours a slightly hazy amber/brown with a medium tan head. Smells of alcohol and red wine. Taste is malty, biscuity with a hint of belgian yeast strain. Very clean tasting finish. Mouthfeel is very creamy, smooth carbonation. Super drinkable for 8% abv, I am definately buying this again; one of my favorite dubbel's for sure.

Appearance: Pours a hazy reddish brown, more brown than red, perhaps. The carbonation on this one is off the charts - at first when I poured this, it did the fizzy "dubbel" head thing where it fades quickly at first, bubbles, froths, and spits, and then calms down. When this one kept receding though, I just assumed the head retention on this one would be poor. Turns out I was wrong, both because it eventually DID slow down and stop receding and because the carbonation is so intense and so fast that it replenishes the head from underneath. Strange, but impressive. Leaves some nice patches and splotches of runny, watery lacing.

Aroma: Phenolic and fruity. Smells very weizenbock-esque, really, in that the malts are light and powdery, there's almost no darker malts or crystal sugar notes, and there's tons of yeast character - bananas, berries, apple skins w/ accompanying cider-esque spice notes, and lots of spicy, medicinal phenols. It's not unpleasant, per se, but it is a little strange for the style, very ethereal and yeasty.

Taste: Improves drastically as it warms, and is a decent stab at a dubbel to boot. Has all the right notes - candi sugar sweetness, brown sugar, faint dextrins, medicinal spiciness, and fruity yeastiness. It's all decently balanced, though definitely leaning towards the yeastiness.

Mouthfeel: Incredibly carbonated, with a full, exploding, fizzy, but powdery, pillowy soft mouthfeel. It somehow manages to maintain a degree of evenness, too.

Drinkability: A decent beer, fairly solid all around, and with well-hidden alcohol that's of a reasonable level for the style. I'd cut down on the medicinal phenols on this one, let the sweetness and the fruity flavors shine through, and it'd be a definite winner.

Wow, these Choc Signature beers are coming fast and furious, and I can't get enough of them. So nice to see a local brewery take it up a notch with the bigger beers and do them well.

Pours a dark brown with cherry hues into a goblet. Topped with a fairly quickly fading, two-finger somewhat airy tan head. A thin lacing sticks to the circumference of the glass when all is said and done.

Aromatically we get some dark chocolates, cherries and esters, some toasted malts, an essence of hops, and some sweet candy to wrap it all up. It's complex and a bit subtle at the same time.

Taste is robust and complex, although not as much as the smell. I'm getting some more dark chocolates and some grain. Taste also involves some silky sweetness.

This is a full-bodied brew. A good shake reveals some quick bubbly activity, so I would say carbonation is medium. The alcohol (8%) is blended well, and is barely noticeable until the very end.

As I've said before, I may be a little biased since this is a local brewery, but you can't go wrong with these brews, and nobody I've talked to about them has been dissapointed. Seek em' out and enjoy.
