Grabbed this one while in Aschaffenburg, Germany. Poured on tap a few steps from the brewery this one is considered the "Original Bayerisches Weizen". Aroma of dark malts, fruit (banana mostly), and lots of yeast. Taste was like the nose except for a hint of cloves. Very smooth mouthfeel. A decent, neutral and cloudy, wheat brew.

Standard German brown half liter bottle with a blue, white and brown label featuring Munich's Bavaria statue on top of the Bavarian blue and white checkerboard flag. Purity law applies. Best before 9/3/04, I opened it on 5/9/04.

Gorgeous pour - cloudy copper under a two finger tan head that manages a lovely crown above the glass then settles ever so slowly, leaving magnificent lace. They just can't look any better than this. The nose has sweet clove and yeast, but there's also a touch of charcoal that I find off putting. The mouth is light and a bit flat, much too flat for a Hefeweizen. The taste is a tad watery, with the requisite clove and some caramel sweetness. There's very little discernible hops. The aftertaste is spicey sweet. It's OK, but little more than that. Quite a disappointment after the sumptuous pour. Sigh.
