Serving: Can
Canned: Dec-19-2018
A:
Pours a cloudy orange with a voluminous white head. Great retention; tons of scummy lacing. (4.5)
S:
Stone fruit, black pepper, the vaguest hint of barrel. (4)
T:
Zesty rye, fairly bracing hops, herbal, grassy, hints of citrus. (4)
M:
Medium body with active carbonation and a spicy, fairly clean finish. (4)
O:
This was a nice beer and was both was and wasn't what I was expecting. It looks as New Englandy as could be in the glass. Great head. The aroma is fruity (overripe peaches) but is very rye-forward. The flavor follows. Spicy, peppery, dry rye with a hint of stonefruits. Both the aroma and flavor have a hint of tannic wine barrel in the finish. It is pretty drinkable and the assertive character of rye clashes less than I would have expected with this type of beer. Is have it again. Also I am glad to see that not only is their addition of dates awesome, but you can tell that their canning is more dialed in than it was (which makes sense since they were among the first to can on their own). I'd have it again. (4)
This is the single least oxidized month-old NEIPA from QC I've ever had. Bravo Maltsrom!
