a little haze to this confused pale ale. its bitter like an ipa, and sort of dry hopped juicy like some of the east coast takes on the style that have gotten the attention lately. the problem here though is that this beer feels like a copycat effort rather than something inspired on its own, for its own sake, and while imitation is flattery, in this case it doesnt flatter the beer much. overly bitter, oddly astringent which doesnt make sense, and this weird estery yeast that was common in many of the beers at briar common which really doesnt belong. that said though, the hop profile is excellent, fresh with some pineapple and citrus overtones, and the proportions seem about right. maybe more bitterness than it needs for a pale, which i think limits drinkability, but the flavor in that sense is right on. this yeast error, whatever it is, needs to be cleaned up, and perhaps a little tweak to the grain bill would make this a little more distinct on its own. not a bad beer, but like a second rate knockoff to me, in need of some adjustments, but i suspect all of the beer (and food) will get much better in here as they find their stride.

L: Clear copper gold color, with a small white head and no lacing.

S: Toasted Bready malt and a slight tropical fruit. Aroma isn't overly strong.

T: Toasted Bready malt, a little tropical fruit, and a nice floral hop and a light bitterness.

F: Light body medium carbonation.

O: This isn't a very exciting pale ale very malt forward.
