Nice appearance, 1" head on it, lots of carbonation. Nice look for a red ale, its red, gleaming, nice tiny bubbles. Let the trashing begin:

The aroma was gross, hot peated garbage. Like it was equal parts malt and refuse. Do they keep their grain in a silo or a dumpster? Possibly some wood chips got co-mingled here.

Taste, ooh, more of that hot peated dumpster wood chip thing going on. Already glad this is the only bottle I have of this stuff, I think I picked up a premixed six pack of their stuff from Argonaut, and thought, why not, if its terrible, you can just drink another beer.
A little butterscotchy at times. An unpleasant bitterness throughout it as well. Did they add some hoppy generic cola here as well? What the heck is this?

This beer was just a mess for me after looking at it as a pretty beer. Smelled bad, tasted bad, never improved in the mouthfeel. It was difficult choking down my 6 oz, but I did successfully complete the beer.

Their lager was better.

Review from notes, enjoyed back in April

Pours caramel/amber with a pinky of cream colored head. Average head retention & lacing

S: Faints grainyness & caramel

T: Follows the nose, woody & herbal hops up front. Sweet grainy malt as this warms, plus more herbal hop mix. Finishes dry, sweet & grainy

MF: Medium bodied & firm carbonation, good balance

Nice drinkability, would love to try this on draft..

Pours red. Small head gone quickly. Not much carbonation. Smells and tastes slightly of hops then finishes malty. This I my opinion. My friend tastes hops at the end. I like this brewery so I'll say I've had better reds but I've had worse. The price is really reasonable.

She is a pretty looker, but substantively she fails. Red, gleaming, full on inch of head.

Aroma was atrocious. Like those big cities where people just dump garbage in the streets. Fuckin' mideival or however you spell it.

Taste was more of the same. Nasty peated malt heated up with grey water. Getting through this beer was a chore.

Lovely red-amber color. Nice enough head and very good lacing. Fine carbonation gives a good mouthfeel. Pleasant malty flavor is the dominant attribute. Just a touch of roasted flavors. Very light and refreshing. This is not my favorite hop, but it's not overdone.

Innocuous, but quite drinkable. One of the six different beers in the Grand Lake six-pack sampler. Purchased in Denver.

A solid amber ale from Grand Lake. Pours a rich copper color, clean and clear. Small head, not much lacing. An aroma of sweet nuts and almond. Slight caramel and weak coffee.

Flavors are that of nuts, cola bean, sharp caramel and some chocolate on the end. The malt is the backbone here but the spice towards the end suggest a not-to-shy hop addition. It's crisp, and hauls in the sweetness on the finish as to not over do the earthiness and malt.

Good amber ale

This red ale (which could mean a lot of things), IS a red ale, pouring dark, burnt ocherous, with low fading head, and little lacing. Smells is malt forward, and not much else. Maybe a bit sweet, maybe a bit hoppy. Taste is the same, somewhat one dimensional (and if this dimension is your, then so much the better), being malty biscuit forward, but expected for the style, and not especially bitter Carbonation is moderate, chewy but not chunky. An ale? Sure. And red, definitely. Not really my style, but a solid offering. Probably best with a meal.

Appearance - Ruby red in color. A small head on a controlled pour which dies out to the edges pretty quickly.

Smell - Bubble gum, soda, a bit of a sour fruit.

Taste - Smooth creamy caramel at first then roasted grains comes at the end of the first drink. Chocolate after warmed up and aired a bit.

Mouthfeel - pleasant, smooth, a bit simple but a great example of what a red can be

will probably get some more. I like reds and ambers as a second or third beer

The beer pours out with a fine amber-red color. The head dissipates quickly, although what remains looks creamy.

Aroma is heavy on the malt sweetness, primarily a sugary, caramel with some toffee.

Taste is rich. Caramel and butterscotch up front and lasting throughout. A bright bitterness at the finish.

Medium mouthfeel.

Not-quite sub-par, but I can't find anything to really bring me back to this beer. Not much depth to things and the taste is pretty pedestrian. Well, I'd probably take one over a Miller High Life...

Pours a brilliant red that flashes crimson in the light, a small eggshell one finger head has poor retention and a slight amount of lace on the glass.

Dark malts, caramel with a hint of roasted grain laid down very heavily with a slight hint of pine and herbal hops. Overall very sweet and malty with a touch of smoke I was hoping for much more hops.

Odd complexities some woodchips thrown into toffee and caramel malt, laid down thick and somewhat viscous. Hop flavor is not enough to push back and features some resin with hemp of all things. Sticky with a thick layered mouthcoating even when colder brings out some bitterness and herbal feel.

Flat and syrupy feel a bit thick and on the heavy side. Mouthcoating is ever present and sticky. Not impressed at all.

Interesting and a bit more complex than I imagined with the flavor but also unbalanced and the lack of carbonation doesn't really pull the potential of this beer out. I'd really prefer my reds hoppy enough to adjust to the added malt. Okay but not worth seeking out.
