Stumbled onto The Draft Taproom while walking Charlottesville Downtown pedestrian mall. What a great concept - you use a credit card to get a scan card, then you pour yourself the beers you want to try from the 60 taps that they have, paying by the ounce - the price per ounce is clearly noted at each tap. This system allowed me to have small samples of 10 Virginia brews, some from breweries I hadn't heard of previously. For someone like me, basically a tourist (and beer nut) in town to visit Monticello, Montpelier & Highland, this was the ideal way to sample a lot of local beers from different breweries. They have a sports bar vibe with plenty of flat screen TVs, and pub food (didn't sample, had dinner reservations). I will be returning to The Draft Taproom the next time I am in the area, which I hope is soon!

50+ taps iirc and pay by the ounce. The place is pretty basic, concrete floors, high tops, tvs and clean at that.
The concept is pretty cool and allows you to try as many beers as you want. Selection is above average but nothing to get too excited about. I would equate it to buying a mixed 6 pack from Total Wine.
Service was pretty top notch though and the burger I ordered was pretty tasty.

I love this place -- I take everyone that comes into town here. I've referred to it before as a "Disney Land for beers." Love the concept, it's a great way to taste a lot of new beers at a relatively affordable rate.

Self-serve taproom with a focus on Virginia breweries/beers. They also have a large number of flat screens supposedly with the option of using a cell phone app to listen to a specific game through headphones. Definitely a sports bar vibe with various staff circulating to clean up/answer questions about the system (using your credit/debit card to first set it up, you get a scan card that totals the amount of total ounces you pour from the many taps). Pretty glitch-free during my initial visit. They do serve food but I did not sample. Edit to add that they are pulling some unique beers not seen before in Cville, including beers from Right Proper in DC.
