Clear, consistent light amber gold colour. Good frothy-verging-on-creamy white head. Excellent lacing and retention. This is a good looking lager served in its big chunky glass.

Not much on the nose. Slightly yeasty, with a hint of citrus, like sweet orange. It's quite fragrant, but rather subdued still.

Taste is also a bit weak, with a grainy, yeasty bred dough character predominant. Very clean feel though and quite refreshing.

Very easy to drink and rather enjoyable for a mass-marketed lager. I was expecting a lot worse.

Whilst on holiday in Slovenia, this was the only beer available in the bars we frequented in Kranjska Gora, both on tap in some bars, or bottles in others. At only about effectively $2 a pint we thought it good value and an enjoyable beer, even though nothing special. It is pale gold coloured, slightly hoppy aroma, with a hint of sweetness, reasonable head, though that did dissipate quickly. Taste was light and refreshing, though no depth of character, but easy to drink and enjoyable on a warm summer evening. I have had far worse beers than this, and if there is nothing else available, then it makes a decent drink, but nothing to mark it other than average.

500ml can, day 3 of the Costco Canada 2014 Beer Advent calendar.

This beer pours a clear, pale golden yellow colour, with one chubby finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and somewhat bubbly off-white head, which leaves some low-lying ocean swell lace around the glass as it quickly sinks away.

It smells of bready, doughy pale malt, a touch of corn syrup, musty yeast, wet saltine crackers, and wan earthy, weedy hops. The taste is more of the same mixed bag - mixed grainy pale malt and corn mush sweetness, unnecessarily acrid yeast, indistinct sour fruit, a weird crackery breadiness, and a hint of low-octane gasohol.

The bubbles are pretty understated, not really redlining the ol' frothometer, as it were, the body an agreeable medium weight, but fairly clammy and pithy on the flipside - so, yeah, not smooth. It finishes on the sweet side, the corniness and waning graininess bolstered by a certain sugary booziness, sans any overt heat, which just seems wrong.

Fuh. Not exactly an engaging or otherwise tasty offering - it all seems disjointed and cheap, with just enough makeup to lure in yer higher-end fools (guilty!). Anyways, calling this a Euro version of a malt liquor (even with its sub-5% ABV) may be a bit over the top, but I say, if the shoe fits, it's up to you whether or not to dump it. Think about it.

A: Solid gold with a huge head.

S: Musty, stings the back of the nose the same way citrus might, malty, sour.

T: Dirty malt, sweet and sour. Pretty bad.

M: Dries the tongue in a quite unpleasant way,

O: Not great, bad enough to not be able to finish it.

Pale yellow with a large head.

The most common lager in the country where I live.

Very light and drinkable, but only ordered as a last resort - if it's the only available beer in a bar. It's slightly hoppy and bitter with a not very pleasant, almost sour taste that you can do best to forget as soon as possible.

Svetlo... Sweet corn and DMS... Definitely seems Eastern Bloc, but not that big of a knock... Sorta what I expect with no other real flaws... Just hot and sweet even for 5%.. Doubt I will ever try this one again and I'm fine with that.

International Green Week, Berlin 2012: Hall 18 is a real mix of nations (Gambia, Ghana, South Africa, Spain, Peru, Malta, Thailand, Belgium and Holland to name but some) we find a tall standing table by a Belgian bar and leave the women folk to keep the space while we men bomb burst to find something to drink. I got the wife a South African sparkling wine and I noticed a small area dedicated to Slovenia and came back with a 0.3 litre glass of this beer. The other blokes just hit the Belgian selection (all of which I’d had before) for themselves and their ladies, food and drinks were available from all sorts of countries if they’d looked hard enough.

My beer could have been a lager/pilsner/helles from almost anywhere: it had the regular golden, clean looks, snowy white head and no smell. The taste was thin, some hop bite, but very little of anything worthy of note, most likely the worst beer I had during the whole day (although the Russian lager I had was pretty poor too. So this is just a run of the mill, bog standard pilsner, a pity because it is the only thing I’ve ever had from Slovenia that I know of, and it hasn’t left a great impression on me.
