Well I was lucky enough to recognize this place from Beerfly as I drive back from the Hoover Dam and had an hour or so to kill before returning my rental car.

The inside is a pretty decent pub interior. Kind of dark, TV's, better than a strip mall bar. Definitely has some charecter.

The service was so-so. It was slow at best although they didn't charge us for our beers, only our food. I would bump them up just for that, but decided not to.

The selection was so-so at best for a beer bar. This place wouldn't even be top 50 in Philly.

The food was pretty poor, not sure if it was just what we ordered.

***Beers are comped if you play vid poker, not sure how to reflect that in a review, but it is a huge bonus!****

This authentic-looking pub sits unexpectedly among strip malls and small businesses near McCarran Airport and the South end of the Strip in Las Vegas.

I have lived in England, and I felt transported back when I walked in. It had he same well-worn but comfortable look as a good "local". It had darts, dining tables and a long bar and lots of brown wood. It was just missing actual beer engines for cask ales that would have completed the picture perfectly. Although there were no cask ales, the pub had about 30 beers and ciders, along with some bottles. The taps consisted of mainstream UK and European beers, with nothing rare or unusual. The two UK ales I had were fresh and well-handled and I was not disappointed.

The service was friendly and attentive. The food was very good and authentic, like everything else. The prices were cheap for Las Vegas. There were very few customers when I visited, so there was no sign that tourists have discovered it, but I understand it is very popular among local British ex-pats.

Overall, I was very pleased with this place and I will go back when I am in Las Vegas.

Nice neighborhood pub with a rather good selection of draughts and knowledgeable bar personnel. Was a real treat to find the Ennis & Gunn Cherry on tap. Fresh & delicious. Will definitely return.

What looks like equal parts country club and 19th century housing, its actually a bar! Came across this place accidentally while in Vegas on Tropicana, then realized I've read about it on beeradvocate. Spacious, lots of soccer paraphrenalia all over the place, multi level establishment. Outdoor patio, pretty nice. I wonder if anyone has wedding receptions here, the scenery is pretty nice, relatively speaking, I mean, its Vegas after all.

Selection was largely the usual stuff for an English styled pub. Guinness, Smithwicks, Boddingtons etc. . . They really do their best to keep hoppy or heavy selections out of the way here, lots of the bland selection stuff, for my palate anyways.

I think you have to really like naval stuff and soccer to really get too much into the vibe here. Found the prices of basically $6 a pint to be brutal, given the quality and the fact this was Vegas (I still remember when Vegas was a cheap extended weekend).

Really wouldn't recommend going out of your way for this place unless: 1. You're really into reliving your navy days 2. You're really into English ales 3. You like soccer 4. You want a patio to sit on after getting tired of being in the casino vibe.

Great atmosphere in this place. Inside is lots of dark wood, ships' masts, EPL footie memorabilia and jerseys, etc.,. I know for a fact that a lot of people from the UK frequent this place and that the games are popular, even at 6am. The menu is inclusive of not just English/Irish type food you typically see in this type of pub but includes traditional American bar food as well. The food is done well. The fish and chips is great. 30 beers on tap. I tried Fuller's ESB and had a Smithwick's today. Both were at good temps and were served after a bit of a sit. The place wasn't too busy but the couple of guys there with me had English accents. There's pool and darts, several TVs set to sports. The music was all '80s. The bartender wasn't very talkative to anyone, the servers seemed to be all business. Not a lot of talk and visiting the day I went. But the beers, the food, and the selection (bottles too) were good - not a lot of the macros highlighted here. I am looking forward to going back. A beer on tap is $5.75 but there are a lot of food and drink specials for locals in certain businesses like gaming and UNLV - and gamblers as well. I'm ready to get back there, try other brews, and partake of some more food like curry chicken, pasties, bangers, etc.,. Good place.

Being English I certainly didn't recognise this as being anything like a British pub!
Yes, there's the UK signs, dart board and obligatory red telephone box but that's as far as it goes. The beer choice was limited and average at best.

Only upside was that Chimey was on draft, but quite expensive.

The bar was quite busy, but there was only one harassed bar lady serving. She was certainly under pressure and had to curtly ask one of her colleagues to help her pour beer. I guess because of this the service was surly at best with the aforementioned lady just grunting in response to our order with no sign of a smile or thank you.

They show UK soccer matches on the screens, but have the cheek to charge $20 entry per person for certain matches!

I won't be back.

Just loved the feel of this place. Lots of wood, decorations, English-y feel to it (in an American way). Some good stuff on tap, pretty much the standard British fare with some beers from a handful of other European regions (ie Pilsner Urquell). From what I'm told, a good soccer game early in the morning will give this place a 5+ atmosphere as it can be packed from wall to wall.

Not much to say other than that. Would definitely seek this place out on a busier day. There were only about 5 people in there on the Saturday at 11am when I was there.

The bar had a very locals feel to it located off the strip on Tropicana avenue. Lots of taps but nothing really outstanding on them. About 40 different bottled beers. Service was ok but they spent a lot of time chatting with each other. Food was highly rated by the local Vegas press but in my opinion it was highly over rated, it was just average, nothing outstanding about it. If you sit at the bar and play the machines your beers are free. BA's would be better off heading around the corner to the freakin frog.

Showed up about 11:30 a.m. on the way out of town to day-trip Hoover Dam. Footie on 8 TV's, 60' of bar, a dozen tables and some video poker (it is Vegas). Good light, lots of very UK decoration. Lots of flags, wood, and rope. A cigar bar upstairs. A bar-long chalkboard lists various soccer (football) league schedules & teams as well as upcoming live music.

Lassies in black tops and tartan school girls skirts with great legs were very helpful and friendly.

Solid selection of beers, 30 on tap from u.s., england, Ireland, Australia, Belgium (Chimay & Stella), Canada (2 Wyder's ciders), Czech Republic (Pilsner Urquell), Denmark (Carlsberg), France (Kronenburg), Germany (Spaten & Warsteiner). Bottle list is heavy on English & US brews with 5 German & 7 non-alcoholic offerings (4 waters & root beer included). The English offerings are all Youngs & Sam Smith plus Theakston's Old Peculier. US has Stone's Arrogant Bastard in 22 oz. bombers & megabrews. 40 beers total in bottles.

2 steel-tip dartboards.

Didn't get to sample much of the menu as only burgers & bagged chips are available during footie matches. Had to beg to get a glass instead of plastic for the same reason. Consider that when looking at the food score.

If I ever get back to LV, I'll definitely stop in on a non-footie time.

My wife and I visited last weekend on a quick getaway weekend (before seeing the Blue Man Group, woo hoo!) after I had heard such great things about this place from BA friends. And I can second (third, fourth, fifth?) what they have to say.

A very large white building, easily recognizable from the street; parking is a challenge but not terrible. Upon entering, a large bar area on the left and a smaller table/restaurant area to the right make up the first floor. More seating upstairs, perhaps (I'm not sure).

A broad selection of commonly available British/Scottish/Irish pints (30 taps) make this a very good place to play. My wife started with the Guinness, and I the Old Speckled Hen. At first we thought the service was pretty slow, then we finally figured they were doing a proper pour, and letting the beer rest before serving. Extra points there!

I had the chicken and leek pie, and it was wonderful. I love pot pies, and this was one of the best I've ever had.

A number of locals (a mix of UNLV student types, families, and older folks) in a nautical-themed atmosphere, with Premiere League footie on the telly, and this becomes a highly recommended spot. Where have you been all my life?

I've been in love with this place since it was the British Bull Dog years ago and it's been a staple on my Vegas places to go list ever since then.

Solid selection, typical Amero-Brit pubfare, and fairly authentic atmosphere.

I'm giving a high rating to the service because back when I was in my teens, my Grandmother, a British citizen, used to take me here for a pint pretty regularly. I was from Wisconsin, where kids can drink with their parents and Grandparents wherever and whenever they want, so this was normal to me.

Of course this is not the norm in most places in the states and especially not in Vegas, which was and still is pretty darn strict on underagers.

Anyhow, I liked the pub because they would turn a blind eye to my Grandma and I when she would slam a pint of Old Peculiar down in front of me and tell me to drink up.

This place is definitely worth checking out if you can drag yourself away from the strip for a couple of hours.

This place is my favorite LV beerfly bar. I still havent hit Tenaya or the original Big Dog but they have windows here....

Located in UNLV central right around the corner from the Frog, I liked this place much better. They had a good 25-30 draught beers and there were plenty that I have never tried before. They have an outdoor patio which was quite pleasant when its been 105 and suddenly its 90. We sat out here with some recently wed couple and a few of their friends. We all had a great time.

Beers are not exactly cheap here but not too bad. Service is decent and this place just feels a lot homier than most places in Vegas. Of course you can play video poker and get your drinks comped but this really is a good place to lay off the gambling. We didn't try the food. I have found my new LV bar--close to the strip too !!! thanks beerfly.

My last visit to the Crown and Anchor will be just that my last visit.I was there for lunch recently and sat in the dining room area. The room was almost full as was the rest of the areas. There was one server working this dining room and a upstairs area and some tables by the bar, needless to say she could not handle all of the tables so service was poor
I did manage to get my order in for fish and chips and a pint in only a few minutes, and she did bring the pint quickly. I then sipped my beer and sipped my beer and and, finally a woman who seemed to be a manager or owner appeared to help the server. After a few minutes she approached me and asked if everying was OK, I looked at my watch and stated that I had been waiting for a fish and chip order for 45 minutes.
Ther was no apology on her part actually no words she just turned and left and a few minutes later appeared with the food and looked at me and said"you did not wait 45 minutes you only waited 39 minutes" and she turned and walked away. .
On my previous visit I sat at the bar and did not eat but had a few pints and encountered a very rude bartender.

They do have a good selection of beer for an Irish Pub but it is a bit pricey.

Decided to update my review a bit. I had originally given this establishment a mediocre review, but upon several return visits, I have to admit, I'm a fan of this place. Though the beers on draft are not so good, that bottle prices are unbelievable. There is hardly a markup on some pretty solid beers. All the Youngs beers are 18 oz. and are sold for $4.75. The Celebrator Dopplebock is a modest $4.25, and Duvel is right around $5 as well. I will take this pub any day of the week for several reasons. A very friendly and never condescending bar staff (unlike a certain place down the street) is eager to help out. A kickass atmosphere that really feels like an authentic British pub. And really good food that solidifies The Crown and Anchor as a perfect glass to grab a pint. Just stick to the bottles like I do.

Review on 1-24-05
For priding itself with a great selection of beers, I am slightly dissappointed with Crown and Anchor's beers. With the exception of Fat Tire (which I find overrated) there were no craft beers on tap or in bottle. Though there are something like 30 beers on tap, I had little interest in any of them with the exception of Old Speckeled Hen. I miss the day when they used to import Tetley's Ale into the states. Draft beer offerings are fairly typical of irish or english themed pubs. Guiness, Bass, John Courage, Stella Artois, Fosters, Kronenberg 1766, et al, nothing that sticks out as unexpected. The highlights are the bottled beers with Chimay, Duvel, Ayinger's Celebrator Dopplebock, and a nice selection of bottled Samuel Smith's (Nut Brown, Taddy Porter, and Oatmeal Stout). Cool atmosphere though that makes you want to drink there. A large bar area, patio area, and two lofts, one with a pool table. Great food as well, I had some very good fish and chips. Definitely in my top five favorite places to drink in Las Vegas.

Flew into Vegas around lunch time, and this is close to the airport so I figured we should try it out. Entered about 11:15 am and my wife and I were the first to arrive for lunch. A nice 25 person crowd was there by noontime, mostly locals. The bar and restaurant are nicely decorated with English posters and pictures, steins, and plenty of TVs for soccer matches.

The bar is a nice size about 20 stools or so with plenty of small tables. Video poker available too. Dart boards in the back behind the bar. The upstairs section was closed when I was there.

30 beers on draft, including several british and some american. 50 bottles on the menu too. I had a pint of John Courage along with a scotch egg and a steak and kidney pie. My wife had the fish & chips and a Fat Tire. The fish was the best I have ever had - big and crispy, not greasy at all. The waitress was beer knowledgable, very friendly and prompt with service. I will definitely be stopping back in here on my future trips.

I found it when I wasn't looking for it, and am very glad that I did. The decor has already been described very well, so I won't repeat, but will share my experience. It was around 11 a.m. and there were only about a half dozen people in the place. I was the only tourist, and that's generally a good sign. Sat at the bar by a local and discussed the place and beer in general. The bartender had time to stop by and talk beer as well. I was enjoying a Fullers from the tapwall when I asked about Stone. I had already checked out the glass-fronted coolers and there wasn't any in there. Found that they carried Arrogant Bastard and Pale Ale bombers, and when I ordered them he went out the back door somewhere to retrieve it. The bartender was knowledgable and the service was good. He had a british accent, as did the local I sat by. Found out that prior that morning (7:00 a.m.!) there had been about 200 people in the place for pay-per-view soccer/football/something. They have the whole schedule up with teams I've never heard of, but it's obviously quite popular. I could've spent the rest of the day there and been quite happy. The locals are lucky to have a place like that nearby. The food I'm judging on sight alone...it looked fabulous coming out and everyone I saw eating seemed to be enjoying it, and they advertise out front that they were voted one of the top restaurants in Las Vegas.

I'd say it's a must for any beer lovers visiting LV...I'll definitely be back the next time I'm there.

A visit to the PowerGen03 Conference in Las Vegas gave me the chance to head down to the Crown & Anchor and relax with some fellow Limeys. I walked here from the Convention Center, which is a fair walk down to E.Tropicana where it is located. I would Cab it next time but I had a big thirst already worked up, which is good.

From the outside it has a very unique look, a whitewashed exterior and a large chimney stack proudly has the Pubs name written in black on it. You can’t really miss it, even in Vegas it stands out.

Inside, there is an immediate feel of being aboard all old English Galleon. Lots of ships rigging, poles and ropes hang from the wood vaulted ceiling beams. As you enter you pass through a small area that has several tables and chairs, which extends to your right, but the bar is to your left as you enter, set against the far right hand side wall. High stools surround the interesting T-shaped bar, whilst the 30 Taps are also set against the back wall. Either side of the Bar to your left & right above your head, are two small upper rooms, both visible from the main bar atrium. The one on the left of the Bar, has a Pool Table which is accessed via a small set of wooden stairs, very cool. Underneath this are two Dart Boards, which were popular. The World Map which is on the wall that faces the Bar has the Pub Motto in the bottom right hand corner, “Wankers Away!” LOL. The décor is finished with lots of English Football Team paraphernalia and many other very British items.

The beer range is also very good and impressed me. The website lists the 30 Beers that are on draft so I won’t repeat them here, but the Fullers ESB and Bass Ale were great. Of further interest is the excellent range of around 40 bottled beers on offer. Contemplating the solid range of Fullers, Youngs and Samuel Smiths from England – there are other beers from around the World, including Duvel & Chimay from Belgium. A decent beer range for Vegas, one of the best.

English Fare is served up and it is very good – the Curry was superb and the Fish n’ Chips looked & smelled great. Malt Vinegar and HP Sauce abounds.

The Crown & Anchor regularly shows English Premier and Scottish Football (of the proper kind) as well as International Football & the occasional Rugby match.

Highly recommended and well worth a visit. The next time I hit Vegas I will head straight here & escape the Strip, but maybe in a Cab next time!

The Crown & Anchor British Pub is located on E. Tropicana, east of Maryland Parkway, a couple miles east of the Strip in Las Vegas. The decor is British and funky: lots of British paraphenalia adorn the walls, which are wood and brick, with dart boards downstairs and a pool table on a small upstairs loft area. There are also a few TVs around the pub. The bar is rather large and wooden with the ubiquitous video poker in the bar top. The music is on the loud side and comes from a CD jukebox, but the selection of music is good.

As for the beer: I counted 30 taps and 38+ bottles. Among the bottled beers available on my visit were: Chimay Red, Duvel, Celebrator Doppelbock, several Samuel Smith's, & several Young's (incl. Dbl Choc Stout), etc. Among the taps were many of the usual suspects (Guinness, etc.), but also included New Zealand Steinlager, Courage, McEwan's Export, and Fuller's. I did not notice any casks.

This pub is not too far from the Strip but is also in the area of UNLV, and so the clientele is a mix of locals, students, and tourists. They offer graveyard food specials. I sampled a bacon cheese burger made with Stilton - yum!

Overall a very decent British pub with a good beer selection. Worth a visit while in Las Vegas. Pick up one of their "Wankers Away!" bumper stickers while there. :-)
