Dark brown colour with a thin wispy lace, bold malty aroma that lays down a clean graininess on the nose. Mildly crisp with a uniform carbonation, solid medium body for the almost creamy maltiness. Hints of caramel and toasted malt come in waves with a tingling hop bitterness in the back. Very well balanced and spot on for style.

I generally love Willimantic brews; here's one I just liked. With only Sunday River and Long Trail as heavy rotation US altbiers in my repertoire, I had to set this up against the stylistic expectancies I derive from text as much as experience. Dusseldorf alt is supposed to be fairly malty and hoppy as compared to US couterparts. I find Sunday River alt to be pretty exciting in the malt and hop characteristic; I found Willimantic to be a bit drab.

A nice ruby amber color; the quick dissipation of the head was somewhat alarming. Plenty of malt, fruit and flowers in the nose. But I found this, tastewise, less malty, less spicy and less warming than I would expect. The finish was too short.

Pleasant, but not exemplary.

A-Copper with a thin off-white head that reduced to a thin veil and left spotty lace.

S-Light cereal malts and a touch of spiciness.

T-A touch of spicy hops and a nice underlying base of mildly sweet cereal malts.

M-Medium-light and a touch thin. Light lingering flavour and hop spiciness.

D-Simple, easy to drink and in the end rather nice. Pleasant and true to style. Certainly won't blow you away but it is solid.

Deep maple with shades of oak. Creamy, whispy head that lingers on top as a sheet for the remainder of the pint.

Toasted malts with a touch of hazlenut. Semi-sweet caramel fumes with an airy, breadiness.

Sweetened caramel with a touch of mustiness. Dry, roasted nutty profile adding a biscuit flavor. Hints of pine and diacetyl leading to a smooth, slightly dry finish.

A bit lighter than medium bodied. Smooth, with a yeast-like mustiness. A great balance.

A mellow alt, even more so on cask. Well flavored and wonderfully balanced.

This beer was a definite good offering by the Willi brew unfortunately i drank the postal porter just before this beer so it was a step down for me. This beer was just right on the hops(not too much) but enough to capture the German style it was imitating. It had solid body, and a light malt taste. I would definitly have one again. It would be my house staple if I didn't like one of the seasonal offerings.

Reviewed on 5/23/08. On tap at the brewery. A very pretty beer! Pours a clear dark amber with a nice light tan head. Aroma of sweet malt, some light fruits. Flavor of dark roasted malt, light fruits. Bitter finish. This is a light-bodied beer, super easy to drink, and very refreshing. Definitely worth a try.
