Pours black with a half finger of dark caramel head. Head retention is poor, with a good ring of foam lasting a while. Aroma is boozy bourbon right up front. It's been somewhat tamed, but it's still not down to suburban dad levels. Rich coffee, dark chocolate, toasty and roasty malts form an expressive dark and deep aroma. Flavor profile is dark and milk chocolate, cocoa, toffee, and medium roast coffee. Bourbon and char come on easy at the onsite, and then drive the flavor to a big crescendo. Leaving lingering notes of coffee, roasty malts, and bourbon on the tongue afterwards. Mouth feel is thick with a lightly chewy texture. Overall, a big brut of a beer. Aging for a year was most likely great for mellowing out the bourbon in this beast. Coffee is still prominent, despite being a year old, and showing no notes of green pepper.

Poured from a bottle at Side Project Cellar.

L: Dark mocha hues with a rich rusty and khaki head
S: Robust French press, cacao nibs, and wholesome Bourbon notes
T: The real deal - absurd dark chocolate, cafe Americano, espresso, and German chocolate cupcake- super decadent
F: Viscous- just hovering around Derivation thickness
O: Incredible treat - this was just a flat out awesome brew and one of the finer BA coffee stouts to have ever been crafted. Hats off yet again to the Side Project/Shared crew.

Really high end coffee. Fruit. Acidity. Chocolate. Roast. Coffee is the star as the bourbon is so well integrated. Thick and rich stout. The base beer shines and is taken to the next level by the barrel.

Black color with a tan head.

This is better than BA sump. Great coffee flavors all around. No roast. Thick. Balanced. Chocolate. Perfect amount of coffee. Very impressed with this one. Full bodied. Fudgy.

L: pours pitch black a finger of head
S: coffee, sweet chocolate and bourbon. Not a coffee bomb though.
T: the fudge and huge coffee are clashing sweet and bitter to make a nice mix.
F: pretty thick, smooth but a bit over carbonated.

Incredible beer. Might be the thickest beer I've ever had, it's at least as thick as all the good Derivation's I have had. The barrel balances out the almost overwhelming coffee flavor of the regular coffee ship vibes and creates the perfect coffee stout. A must try if you ever get the chance!

Going to rate this overall on par with regular coffee shop vibes. I do that because this is a fantastic coffee stout from start to finish, and I would drink it again given the chance. The barrel characteristics are there, but this is one beer where the coffee actually overpowers the barrel itself. I am not saying that in a negative manner, as the regular version is that good anyway. As a side note, I shared this with the CBC Como crew, and they happened to have Abraxas still on tap. A little cuvee = instant Coffee Abraxas.

Bottle pour; super dark with a thin head (but not low on the carb), Nose is big rich coffee notes that are neither bitter nor green. Feel is literally sticky. Flavors are brown sugar notes with coffee and bourbon, however it never has any sweetness. I had pours of D8, BBT and this in the last day, and this was my favorite. I'm not trashing the others, this is like picking between your three favorite children.
