Style: Light Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Labatt Blue Light was introduced in 1983 as a lower-alcohol, lower-calorie version of Canada’s most popular brand. Blue Light uses specially selected North American aromatic hops and the same strain of lager yeast as the one used to produce Labatt Blue. The result is a crisp, clean and delicately balanced beer, with a slight sweetness and citrus-like hop character.

24 oz can, 2 for $3, couldn't pass it up, that's $4.50 a six pack if you have your calculator out. Not your typical Canadian brew this is only 4% ABV and not the regular 5% ABV. Let's give it a whirl. This brew has a sweet Euro lager smell of spritzy hops. Pours to a pale yellow with a thin white head. Taste is consistent with the Euro lager smell. Very sweet and light with only a slight twinge of earthy hops evident. Mouthfeel is very thin but it isn't watery per se and that should be in line for a light lager. For the price you can get this for its a macro bargain and not at all offensive. It's not bold but it is quite drinkable. This is a lawnmower beer extraordinaire.

A buddy brought over a 24 pack of it. I am broke so how could I resist?

A see-through light golden color spills into the glass. A frothy, honeycomb-like head forms and quickly dissolves. Very weak color, carbonation continues throughout. Not a solitary trace of head as the level of liquid goes down.

The smell is standard corn and rice stock, but has a slight -- very slight -- malty sweetness which makes the smell tolerable for a macro.

I must say that I do prefer this beer to the regular BMC fare. It is smoother and slightly sweeter than most macros. Having said that, it's a subpar lager by Beer Advocate standards. It's very light and watery, which is actually what you would want from this caliber of beer. Makes it easier to drink.

Again, by the standard to which it is held, it's got a decent feel. Not too fizzy. I don't have to choke it down. (I probably would if it warmed up, but that's beside the point.) I have drank many of these in my day, and quite frankly you could do a lot worse. It's a very solid compared to its average macro brethren. But by normal standards, it's very much a cut below.

Poured from can into glass.

Appearance: Almost clear. Slight hint of yellow. Too much light white head that lasted seconds with heavy lacing on the glass.

Smell: Almost no smell. Maybe some sugars and alcohol.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Very light bodied and drank like water. Hints of some malts and other grains...maybe rice. Alcohol taste was the strongest flavor and that was light.

Overall: To be honest, do not care for this beer. However I could enjoy it on a very hot day with no other drink available.

Poured from an 11.5 oz bottle into nonic pint glass.

A - Pale, clear yellow. A half inch of head forms and falls almost immediately. Nothing unexpected here for the style.

S - I think just a smidge of hops are pulling through with a mild peppery/lemony aroma. Mild cereal grain as well.

T - Complete nothingness almost. The vaguest suggestion of lemon peel and salt play on the sides of the tongue, but nothing else at all.

M - Somehow this has managed to be thicker and less carbonated than it needs to be. Two things that cannot work with a flavorless beer.

D - Eh. I want to say I've had worse but all of these guys are about the same. Unoffensive at least.

At a family function, a few of these lingered amongst other cooler macs. Ya, I'll bite.
It was actually pretty good on a nice summers day.
It poured a pale yellow clear straw wth a fizz abit and away white head.
The aroma was alittle corn like, alittle metalic like.
Taste was semi-sweet corn malt, a hint of hop, alittle grass & metal. Overall though the mouthfeel was crisp, clean, slight dryness but rather refreshing. At 4.0% on the abv, that aids the drinkability of this light (better than most other lite's) beer.

Labatt Blue Light brewed by Labatt Brewing Company Ltd., with an ABV of 4.00% This brew pours out a light amber color, with a small with head. The smell is bold with flavors, you pick up on grains and malts. There is a also a hit of sweetness in the smell of this brew. Now for the taste it is mild with flavors, you pick up on grains and malts. Labatt Blue Light dose have the watery taste that most light brews have. It is not bad. The mouthfeel is rich ,bold and smooth. I like how smooth Labatt Blue Light is. There is nothing overpowering about Labatt Blue Light, it has a nice balance to it. This is a light brew that has a decent taste to it. Overall I'm giving Labatt Blue Light a 3.5 out of 5. I would buy this brew again.
