Labatt Blue LightLabatt Blue Light

Brewed by:
Labatt Brewing Company Ltd.
Ontario, Canada

Style: Light Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Labatt Blue Light was introduced in 1983 as a lower-alcohol, lower-calorie version of Canada’s most popular brand. Blue Light uses specially selected North American aromatic hops and the same strain of lager yeast as the one used to produce Labatt Blue. The result is a crisp, clean and delicately balanced beer, with a slight sweetness and citrus-like hop character.

To be honest, this isn't far off of a Labatt. I guess as far as macro light beers go, it's not hideous. There's a mild maltiness to it, some wheat. Kind of sour and a mist of skunk to it.

The color is clear straw and bubbly, with something of a head and no lacing. Malt scent. Basically what you would expect.

Labatt Blue Light is number two....gonna drink it with my left over pizza. The beer pours a clear yellow color with an intial foamy white head that dissapates to nothing. The smell and taste is typical...grain with mild hop just enought to attempt to balance the beer. The mouthfeel is light and carbonation is big. Overall is typical....drinkable....but not notable.

A - super clean straw color. soda like fizz with a small quickly fading head that leaves no lacing

S - there really isn't one. a bit of grain, kinda skunky.

T/M - there is a really off putting sour graininess to the nose. light and clear with little flavor.

O - when you've gotta drink something, drink something else.

341ml Bottle

Appearance – Clear pale yellow colour with an above average size fizzy white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is almost no lacing. The head didn't hang around for long.

Smell - Grains, bread, corn, malts

Taste & Mouth - The beer has an above average amount of carbonation. I can taste malts, light hops, and lots of corn. There really isn't a whole lot of taste going in here.. just grains/corn. It ends with a grainy slightly bitter aftertaste.

Overall – It's odd that this beers slogan used to be 'If I wanted a water, I'd ask for it'.. it's actually pretty watery and tasteless It also has too much carbonation. Not something I intend on having again, but I didn't turn it away when someone offered me it.

what can i say? you gotta drink some shitty ones to really appreciate the great beers. found this in my fridge and what the hell? figured its worth atleast a review.

11.5oz brown twist off bottle at fridge temp poured into a pilsner glass. doesnt appear to have any sort of bottling date. there kind of making a joke of themselves by calling this a "canadian pilsener".

pours out the most super clear straw yellow, slight golden hue. super fizzy white head that went to nothing within minutes. looks like your average macro lager.

hardly anything to really pick out. metallic corny grains, a bit of lagery mineral water.

mineraly water, nasty corny grains, sweet, just slightly tart. you can tell its a lager.

lots of sparkly fizzy carbonation, leaves a nasty adjuncty taste in your mouth after each sip. super watered down, light mouthfeel.

overall, my score pretty much says it all "not impressed". im sure ill be drinking this just to "fit in" and "look cool", but i will never ever buy this. i would however support labatt over AB anyday, but thats not saying much.

24oz can (99¢ special) served in a pilsner glass.

L - light yellow color with a decent sized white head that remained for a while being fueled by tiny bubbles.

S - grainy with a hint of earthy sourness.

T - light and grainy tasting with a sour/bitterness on the finish.

F - lighter bodied with plenty of snap in the carbonation department.

O - an average light beer.

A - Meh. Nothing impressive, nothing too offensive (except for maybe the head, or lack thereof). Wouldn't say it looks like a healthy urine sample.

S - At first, it was okay, then it almost smelled like nothing, but then... ugh. It's like hops and ammonia. I don't really want to drink this now.

T - Well it's like seltzer water with a hint of hops. That much I can sort of taste on first swig. But the flavor catches up on the aftertaste. Wicked grainy, cereal flavors suddenly assault the taste buds. Am I having fun yet?

M - Barely any feeling at all. Really it feels more like I'm stalling so I don't have to get that aftertaste... which is a good thing I guess.

O - To be fair, it didn't offend me as much as I thought. It's certainly not as boldly offensive as regular Labatt Blue. If I had a choice between the two, I'd pick this BECAUSE of the lack of flavor.

This is not a fun way to get buzzed. I'd rather slam a shot of Jack Daniel's then do push ups. And I am NOT a whiskey guy. I feel like I'm at a really boring, really stupid party when I have this. Give me a beer I can have the least bit of passion for.

12 oz bottle supplied to me by a well meaning relative.

If "flavorless" were a style of beer this one might achieve better rankings. It's like a bunch of Canucks sat around saying " Oh, this Labatt Blue is too strong, ay? Let's add some water, dontcha know"

Bland, pale maltiness is a little corn-like.

Color is almost non existent. (Is this actually beer?)

Mouth feel is that of slightly flat club soda.

Avoid. Unless of course, as in my case, a very nice old lady insists you have a cold beer and relax. (Well meaning relative)

Bottle poured into a pint glass.
I am out of good micro/craft brews and the recent home brews are still a bit green, but this was in the fridge.

A: Very pale piss yellow color. The died almost as fast as it had formed.

S: Almost undetectable. Some sweetness and adjunct/corn aroma.

T: An extremely light flavored beer. Very watery in flavor with a minimal sweetness and husky grain to it. No hop bitterness detectable at all.

M: Water with stinging carbonation.

O: Let's face it, for the most part adjunct lagers are the same thing across the board, but this one is definitely not very good. So watery it is even hard to call this one beer. I can understand how they can sell millions of these though, as your average beer drinker loves these light drinking and thirst quenching alcoholic beverages. Not a good beer. Not a good beer at all. But it was in my fridge so I drank it.

Pale yellow beer with a fleeting, foamy head. Dry grain aroma with some faint bready notes. Flavors of grain and grass. Very dry, taste that alternates between tangy and watery. I feel like I'm drinking a really bad adjunct lager that's been watered down to mask the flavor. This stuff is just...lousy.

Grabbed this at some random shit bar I don't even remember the name of.
The beer pours a sickly looking thin straw yellow color with a thick white head and actually a little lacing. It smells of crisp recently husked corn and some hay bales. Just like I imagine Kansas to be. Tastes of corn and sweetness. Unrelenting sweetness. Mouthfeel is thin, watery, and heavily carbonated. Overall, it isn't the worst beer in the world, but it certainly isn't good at all.

Pours a clean/clear golden yellow color, nice carbonation, little fizzy white head, minimal sticky lacing. The nose is slightly malty, but mostly grainy. The taste is kinda malty, grainy/ricy. Light Body. Kinda Drinkable, not that bad, but still... I use to really like the regular version moons ago.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a pint glass.

A- Pours a gingerale color with no head. almost looks like colored water.

S- Smells of rotten apples and garbage, this is much better left in the can.

T- Taste, taste however isnt that bad, has a fresh crisp taste. No distinct flavors come to my tongue little malt quality with a water-bang. Above average for it's classification.

M- Light and crisp. watery.

D- Out of every light Light Lager this one actually has some flavor, yes there is a lot of watered down taste to it, but it does have a nice taste. It goes down smooth (and less filling) and its cheap. Good for a long day of drinking.

Poured a light straw color from a 22 oz can with head that disappears before you can blink and no visible lacing.
Aroma is basically grains and corn. Taste is pretty much the same, typical of an adjunct lager. Watery and insipid; pretty flat.
Nothing much to write about mouthfeel.
This is a beer that is probably good for bulk consumption at parties and that's about it. Not a beer I would recommend.

Your typical Canadian Pilsener... Highly carbonated, not very enjoyable. Poured into a Sam Adams lager glass,
Little to no head, Smells like a kind of flower. has kind of a piney taste. No lacing what so ever. Feel like i have to drink it quick in order to get down.
Not a fan...

Reviewed from notes.

Poured into a pint glass. The color is a pretty light golden color. A good dose of carbonation bubbles and a semi-decent white head. The nose is a bit grainy without much there. Nothing horrifically off-putting, though there is a bit of a metallic astringency, which starts to come out more in the flavor and especially the feel. Not a good beer and I would not recommend this.

A - Clear, straw yellow. Barely a finger width head that fades fast. Next to no lacing left behind.

S - Faint hints of straw and grain - the usual light adjunct bit.

T - Not much going on at all. Yes, it's crisp, with minor wheat and corn notes, but that's about it. Didn't expect much out of this one.

M - Very light. Medium to high carbonation.

D - Really only good for mass consumption. Not difficult at all to throw back a few of these.

Didn't expect much, and didn't get much from this. Meh.

A true classic.

A - Pours a clear light yellow with almost no head. Looks like Shweppes to me.

S - Mmm, old sour corn. Not much else.

T - There are some hops in the taste followed by a sweet, corny malt finish. Not much to taste here.

M - Watery with little carbonation.

D - This beer is good for sessioning on a hot day in the sun and not much else.

So he goes for another mixed sixer of the best of the worst from the grocery store this weekend. I grabbed six more "gems" and did my best to get them all down. served cold and poured into a pint glass, this one was consumed on 08/22/2010.

the last one of the night for me, i decided to end it with a foreign selection, lol. the pour was the same as the rest with maybe a touch more amber to the initial color but that was about it. really just an overally carbonated fizzy water.

very light aroma, nearly non existent with the light grains and hints of corn and rice. just really nothing you would want to brag about drinking. clear, well carbonated and actually a touch of a refreshing nature to it made for a decent little beer, but the flavor just was not there at all for me.

overall i have ha worse, but this was not terrible for a light beer. still though a little more of anything would have helped.

This beer has few of the attributes that define a beverage as "Beer". It IS a good thirst quencher on a hot, humid afternoon in Summer. Beyond that, there is little to discuss. It has a clean, crisp mouthfeel and goes down easily. No aroma to speak of, no taste, no buzz! The slightly tart tang is carbonic acid (Co2 in solution) and the beer closely resembles carbonated water in character. As I said, it's refreshing, but so is soda water. I suspect it would also do a bang up job of cleaning my windshield. As`soon as I can finish this case I will buy something else and never do this again. In fairness, it isn't BAD, there just isn't anything there! Prosit, Wilyum

Drank it out of one of my glasses in the house.

A. Bubbly and light straw in color.

S. Smells like Bud Light

T. This tastes like malty fizzy water. Good for a burger at a ball game.

M. Light and crisp. It can definitely go with any bar food well.

D. Very drinkable on a hot summer day after mowing the lawn. Any other time I long for something more.

A great cheap "Domestic" (for those of you who live in Northern New York)

This is Canada's version of budweiser and it doesn't even come close to the king of beers. The only thing different in their process must be where they are getting water from. The water from Lake Ontario must not be as fresh as the water in St. Louis (or where ever my local Anheuser-Busch plant is) because this stuff tastes like pond water.
