Poured into a wine glass. Viscous and opaque on the pour, a dark brown color with a thick dark tan head in the glass. Great retention and lacing. Fudge, vanilla, and milk chocolate aroma. The taste follows closely and this very much approximates a Fudgesicle. Thick and sweet throughout. There is some floral bitterness to keep it from becoming cloying. ABV well hidden in this sweet treat.

9 May 2020 - Beer #89

Corona Day #58

Price: $5.99 on Tavour

Appearance: 5 - almost knocked it down a peg because it looks somewhat thin, but the head is pure enjoy. Frothy, thick, and beautiful.

Nose: 5 - tons of chocolate. The milk variety. It's milk chocolate chocolate milk.

Taste: 3 - not sure what it is with these guys. It's got some flavor, but not chocolate or stout. And it's very mild.

Mouth: 5 - it is thick and chewy, so it's a well-crafted beer.

Overall: 4 - I don't know why these guys are so good at crafting stout that just doesn't taste that good. Ah well.

Be safe!

Cheers!

Got this one from the Duvel guy in Utrecht

From a 12oz can into a snifter
Imperial stout with Hershey’s syrup, chocolate syrup, cacao nips, vanilla and lactose
IBU: 65

APPEARANCE: Pours out clear black and yields a 2+ finger, medium looking, slightly foamy tan head with very good retention. Clear black body with lots of carbonation evident. Head gets really lose and foamy, but eventually recedes to a bubbly, foamy head and leaves lots of bubbly lacing on the glass. A faint wisp remains leaving some touches of foamy lacing down the glass as it empties.

SMELL: Lots of chocolate syrup, piles of it, with notes of vanilla cream, lactose and some toffee in there as well. Very much a chocolate syrup sandwich here.

TASTE: Lots of chocolate syrup, vanilla cream and lactose sugars up front. This is very sweet and desert-like. A touch of alcohol at the swallow, but mostly just more syrup. Bold finish of Hershey’s chocolate syrup, vanilla, lactose and milk sugars, with a touch of toffee and caramel sweetness lingering on the palate. A hint of booze too, but this is pretty much all chocolate syrup and milk sugars. Really sweet and decadent.

PALATE: Medium-fuller body and medium carbonation. Quite creamy smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes very sticky and mouth-coating, but no heat lingers at all. Fuller, creamier and enough weight on this one. Good feel for the style for sure.

OVERALL: This is nice stuff all around. The chocolate additions have made this a decadent chocolaty treat while the base stout is decent enough to provide the foundation. Unfortunately this one sports a much too bubbly head and lacing, which definitely detracts from the drinking experience. Nevertheless, this is enjoyable and well worth checking out if you’re a fan of chocolate-forward, syrupy stouts. I am definitely a fan of this type of stuff so this one works well for me. Cheers!

look: Very dark brown, no highlights when held to light. Huge fluffy mocha head on the pour.
smell: trust in advertising...chocolate turned up to 11, and some vanilla.
taste: big, sweet, chocolate malt ball up front, a little drying roastiness in the finish. Fudgesicle indeed.

Nailed the flavor of the old fudge bar you ate growing up... incredibly accurate... a touch thin bit everything else is dead on... i was floored at how much chocolate is present here and all in a good way... really really tasty beer...

Remarkably true to its name in terms of smell and taste, as the fudgesicle persona is absolutely nailed without being unpleasantly sweet or fake-chocolaty. There's a decent amount of malty roast and espresso at play, as well, but this thing is all about milk chocolate, vanilla, fudge, and graham cracker. And the consistency from nose to tongue is quite remarkable. Sweetness is certainly there, in line with the name, but it isn't over the top.

Unfortunately it also isn't a very "beery" experience. Given the amount of adjuncts at play, it's hard to be overly impressed when you don't know how much of the fudgey goodness has been teased out of a unique malt combination and how much is simply Hershey's syrup. It's also surprisingly thin for a 12% beer that has some age on it. Fun to try, and tasty for what it is, but not something I would want to drink on a regular basis.

Poured from can. Smell is lots of chocolate, brown sugar, roastiness. Flavor is very chocolatey, sweetness, again, brown sugar, vanilla. Great thick mouthfeel. Great treat, but couldn't finish the can
