Sweet, roasty and extremely bold, the two breweries who love pastry stout team up for this maple-drive, lactose-laden, barrel aged love child of a sweet stout. Soaked in Buffalo Trace barrels for over two years allows the overtones of bourbon to permeate the affair with its own spicy charm.
Pitch black and releasing a dainty necklace of foam, the barrel aged Wisconsin Stout greets the nose with strength. Strong roast, strong syrup, strong cream and strong whisky perfumes nearly overtake the nose in nervous anticipation of the first sip. Recklessly sweet, the early sips are sticky-sweet with malt. Blackstrap molasses, sorghum and maple are surrounded with vanilla, caramel and honey for a sweeter tone to start.
Full, lush and roasty, the middle palate shows an espresso roast with an element of charred woods and an overall campfire whimsy. The dark coffee flavors invite other flavors of baker's chocolate, burnt cream and maple create a highly savory roasted taste that hinges on candied walnut, the heavy toasted edges of pancake and a spicy sweetness that only bourbon can provide. Toasted coconut, grilled dark berries and a nearly licorice-like spice come in late to accompany the bourbony finish.
Full bodied, plush and aggressive with the dark roast character, the beer intimidates the palate with its strength of alcohol and flavor. This big bottle is a certain sharable at parties as it easily satisfies the sweet tooth with a mere few sips. Spicy, numbing and sweet, the dark ale carries a roasty sweet campfire aftertaste into a long and deviant aftertaste.

I liked it overall. Not very memorable, but overall it was good and would buy again if they were available.

Bomber from Tavour. Near black, silky pour with a small, thin beige head. Boozy, sweet aroma, roasty malts and maple. Taste adds a touch of cinnamon to the sweet, warm malts and maple, giving it a bit of a breakfast vibe. Pretty strong and sweet, but with a luscious feel.

25 months in the barrel couldn't save this one, waaaayyy too sweet. Maple and vanilla shoot to the roof of the mouth right away on the sip, bourbon heat is all the remains. Honestly reminds of revolutions barrel aged maple syrup, so sweet. Smell is sugary and boozy too, and I like dessert stouts but this is overkill. Body is thinned and close to hot as a result. But hey it looks good with a brown bubble head and brownish black body.

650 mL bottle. Black. Smells of maple and a little bourbon. Tastes of sweet maple, bourbon, fudgy chocolate. Heavy and extremely sweet. Way too much sugar. I don't even taste the lactose, which i was sure I would hate, but it's so sweet that i don't even detect it.

I like the Untitled Art color scheme: they stick out on the shelf like a good hitter in a Cleveland lineup. 750ML bomber split with my wife.
Black & whoohee! That maple & bourbon are assaultin’ my nose from a good distance. Smells like a pillowcase full of alcoholic Halloween candy.
Barrel Aged Wisconsin Stout is sweeter than a mouthful of candied brown sugar. Maple syrup leaves hits the palate with a sonic boom and close in its wake are smooth sippin’ bourbon & concentrated sweet chocolate. Booze & fudge wrap up the package. Thick & sticky but hey, this is a big bottle I could drink. Over about three hours. OK, maybe one.
If you don’t have at least three sweet teeth this isn’t for you. Over-the-top sweet & an excellent brew.

Maple syrup in beer is not my thing. This beer came bundled with two barleywines (I never pass on those) or it would not be in my possession. I'm trying to leave my bias behind and rate this fairly which is not all that hard since this is pretty dang tasty and really well balanced. Perhaps the extended time in the barrel added enough bourbon, oak, and vanilla to help relegate the sticky sweet syrup to the background. Maybe the base beer is robustly chocolate-y enough to keep the maple madness at bay.
Whatever the case, I'm going glad I got to try this.

Bottled December 2020; drank 4/2/21 @ the Yarchives.
Black appearance. An even pour yielded a small tan head; frothy lace.
Bourbon, oak, mild maple & faint dark chocolate notes in the nose.
Creamy, medium thick mouthfeel.
Oak & bourbon flavors up front; mild maple & faint chocolate notes on the finish. As this warmed, the maple emerged a bit more.
Overall, the base beer was dominated by the barrel and this wasn't very special; a case where the regular version was better than the barrel aged version. Not one to seek out, especially at the price point.

A big thanks to Jeff for this one.
22oz. capped bomber into a Brooklyn Brewery snifter.
Pours dense, rich, and thick. Almost no head but this one's got legs for days. Nose is booze, sweet soy sauce, chocolate, syrup, and vanilla. Aromatic with pretty on-point aromas. Beer opens sweet soy sauce, vanilla, lactose, and marshmallow. Chocolate, fudge, and booze in the middle. Maple notes come in towards the end, sweetening an already sweet beer. Syrupy aftertaste. Body is full with little to no carbonation. Smooth, rich, and oily on the palate and goes down viscous and warm. Truly like motor oil. Sweet, sticky finish and aftertaste.
This one's not so much a pastry stout but the 500 lb of Maple Syrup? I'm not sure about that.
