Very Good

Do you like the coconut Girl Scout cookie? And do you like coffee? If your answer is yes to both, then this is your beer. Plutonium 239 might be our most memorable beer. Could be the name, but we’re betting it’s the unique flavors of the beer.

At first sniff, you will immediately detect coconut, chocolate, and a wonderful roast. Like all good Porters, the carbonation is low and the body is medium.

L: Pours black as night with a two finger head with great retention.
S: Smells rich of sweet malts, toasty, coconut (but not overbearing), lactose, surprisingly, buttery.
T: Follows the nose, not a real coconut presence, mainly toasted malts & cocoa.
F: Low carbonation, full-bodied, surprisngly smooth.
O: For a porter, damn good

Poured into a pint glass. Thick, brown tinted head that lingers with noticeable lacing. Deep black color in the glass. Feel is lighter and creamier than expected but still had strong presence of chocolate and coffee with background hints of coconut. Finished with coconut and a slightly bitter coffee taste. Very easy drinking and solid porter to keep coming back to.

Pours a pitch black color with a thick brown foamy head. Head retention is excellent as is lacing. I get more chocolate than coconut in the aroma but there is more coconut in the taste. Nice roast all the way through. It is a little lighter bodied than I like, but it is a porter and not a stout. Mild to medium carbonation.

Pours an effervescent mahogany with 3 fingers of rocky tan head. Nice head retention & decent lacing

S: Toasted coconut, a little vanilla cocoa

Dry & roasty, more than a little coffee up front, faint toasty coconut up front. Dryness & coffee dominate as this warms, just enough coconut to disrupt the coffee. Finishes dry with toasty coconut & a little bitter roastyness

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation

A solid porter, was hoping for a little more coconut, but this drinks easy enough

Poured out of a can into a pint glass. The beer had a creamy, thick head that quickly dissipated. Very strong aroma of toasted coconut and roasted malt, with some hints of chocolate. Taste is dominated by coconut, chocolate, and coffee notes. Mouthfeel was decadently creamy. Overall a good companion to a hearty meal at the end of a long week.

I fittingly drank the BOMB! from Prairie Artisan Ales after drinking Plutonium-239 and then I finished with a Rauchbier (smoked beer). The Manhattan Project certainly have some interestingly named beers that I will be trying, especially since this one, my first one from this brewery, also tasted very good. A really nice porter.

Look: Black with a thick fluffy tan head

Aroma: milk chocolate, nuts, coconut

Flavor: The flavor roasted coconut, chocolate, creamy, quite good.

Feel: medium body

12oz can, New Belgium glass, canned 12/11/18.

It’s very dark, midnight in fact. Small but creamy head that’s a rich dark walnut.

Cream of coconut, cream cheese frosting, dark chocolate ganache, mocha, and toasted coconut. This aroma is transcendentally rich and exceptionally complex.

Imagine coconut toasted to golden sprinkled across a very creamy mocha.

I would describe the mouthfeel as voluptuous. Creamy, rich, and smooth are all appropriate descriptors.

This one will blow you away with the deft integration of authentic coconut flavor with a rich, tasty Porter.

12oz canned 12-11-18 (opened 1-1-19)
1" beige head on a visibly black (but actually dark brown/mahogany in the light) porter. Head retention is very good - creamy, compact bead, ample lacing left behind.
Coffee with cream, mellow roasted malt notes. Milk chocolate. Nutty. No perceptible hop aromas.
Chocolate, mild coffee flavor and a prominent nutty (peanut) flavor. Coconut is not an upfront flavor - almost have to search for it...more would be welcome here (i.e. Death By Coconut).
Medium body with perceived low carbonation. Nice length in the malty, nutty finish. Dry with a light and chalky mouthfeel late.
Another tasty beer from Manhattan Project, I'm a fan.

Had it from tap in a tall fluted glass. Rich dark brown color with a nice beige head and excellent lacing. Strong dark chocolate smell and taste. Earthy with very rich roasted malt flavor, slight coffee hints. Great porter!

Pours a dark brown color with tan colored head. Coconut, chocolate, roast, and some bready notes on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with chocolate and coconut.
