Taste: semi sweet, dark roasted malt, vanilla beans, cocoa, oat, maltose, creamy mouthfeel. Same with the nose. Black, opaque, nice creamy foam due to nitro in can, lattice of lace. Medium to med/light body. 30 IBUs

A - Coffee black colored pour with thick tan colored creamy head that's thick and sticky.

S - Dark chocolate roast, some coffee, and cream dominates the nose.

T - Dark chocolate roast, some light char, cream, and finishes with a lightly bitter chocolate char, but otherwise very well balanced.

M - Thick texture with some thin/watery presence on the very back end.

O - A very easy drinker.

Jet Black Heart (Nitro) brewed by BrewDog USA, with an ABV of 4.70% This English Sweet/Milk Stout pours out of a Nitro Can into a pint beer glass a deep brown color with a thick off white almost light brown head. There is a nice amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The head of this brew sticks around. The smell is rich with roasted grains and malts with light hop bitterness. There is also a nice amount sweetness in the smell as well. So far this is a nice inviting brew. Now for the taste, it is Bold with flavors, it like heavy roasted black coffee. Lots of roasted grains and malts. There is a nice amount of sweetness at the end as well. There is a lot going on in Jet Black Heart (Nitro). The body of this Stout is a solid medium. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a super nice balance to it. For being a dark brew it goes down nice an smooth. The mouth feel is Bold, Rich, Roasted, Clean, Smooth and Refreshing. This brew would go nice with dinner or a cool night. Overall I'm going to give Jet Black Heart (Nitro) a 4.25 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again giving the opportunity to. BrewDog USA, did a real nice job with this Stout.

I’ll be looking at two dogs tonight, two BrewDogs in fact. First up is BrewDog Jet Black Heart Nitro Vanilla Milk Stout. I haven’t been drawn to this one in its previous bottle incarnation, I guess it was the fact that it’s a 4.7% ABV Milk Stout, and I don’t feel that 4.7% is high enough to give this brew the bang-for-buck that it needs, but nitro it in a can and I’m in (I am a sucker for a nitro beer). One thing I’m not a sucker for is 330ml cans – I want more, make your cans bigger dammit! That said I am a sucker for one other thing – BrewDog coming to Brisbane, that shit is lit [which I believe is the current lingo on the street meaning “most radical”]. I’ll totes [also current lingo, short for “totalitarian”] be keen to have a brew there when it opens.

Poured from a 330ml nitro-can into a nonic pint.

A: Hard poured this MOFO like a leg(end), ended up with a classic Guinness-style deep black body and a 1 centimetre tan head that was thick and moreish, yum. Head didn’t last too long though, and compacted right down to half a cm leaving rings of lace inside the glass. I do like the look of nitro beers. 8/10.

S: Light notes of vanilla mixed with a dusting of cocoa power and milk chocolate, hints of sweetened condensed milk round out this sweetest of Sweet (otherwise known as Milk) Stouts. Aroma isn’t powerful, but it does the job, like a backup blues singer [probably should tweak that analogy as there are some powerful blues singers out there but I couldn’t be arsed, sorry, deal with it]. 7/10.

T: Soft and easy-going considering the slight-oxymoron name. Starts out sweet, ends sweet, nuff said? No, well here’s more words to jam in your eye-holes: Vanilla, cocoa power, milk chocolate, condensed milk, mid-palate roasted grain character, finishes with a dry, slightly earthy bitterness (think 80% dark chocolate). Not in your face, my face, or anyone else’s face – this is a supreme exercise in smooth flavours that ultimately stumbles below (in the mouthfeel that is). 8/10.

M: It’s a bit watery – yep, this is the biggest hurdle for a Sweet/Milk Stout to stumble over: lacking in body. Carbonation was also a touch flat, something I’ve noticed in nitro-cans before (see my review of Mornington Sacchariferous Stout). Drink it before it goes flat – is my advice. 4/10.

D: Tis a hard task making a Milk Stout, there’s so many factors involved leading up to the all important: will it taste good? BrewDog Jet Black Heart does OK, a middling assessment but one that I will stand behind nonetheless. 7/10.

Food match: More Stouts, which are not unlike food, and chocolate cake, also food.

Poured from a 9.6 oz. nitro can Has a black color with a 1 inch head. Smell is strong of roasted malts. Taste is roasted malts, chocolate, a touch of oats, very easy drinking. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer worth trying.

Had a pint on tap. Nitro strikes (negatively) again. Certainly adds a soft, velvetyness to the look and feel, but saps much of the flavor. I get very generic, light coffee, chocolate milk, and maybe vanilla notes that taste watered down. Maybe the regular version is better.

Had on tap. The intro was a great choice for this beer in that the texture helped accent the coffee and cocoa flavors. Had a roasted caramel note in the nose as well. The taste did get a little coffee heavy when warming up, but otherwise an enjoyable milk stout

Canned 5/22/18; drank 6/29/18 @ the Yarchives.

Nitro is not mentioned on the can, but this is 100% the nitro version.

Black/brown appearance.

A violent pour yielded a nice nitro khaki head; minimal lace.

Raw oats, milk chocolate & mild vanilla notes in the nose.

Creamy medium mouthfeel.

Cream, oats & milk chocolate flavors up front; faint vanilla notes on the finish.

An enjoyable nitro oatmeal/milk stout; not overly flavorful but the subtle with a killer mouthfeel.

Enjoyed on draft (nitro? yes) at the fine Gerst Haus in Evansville, IN.

Appearance: Black with creamy tan suds.

Aroma: Cocoa yum.

Taste: Super smooth cocoa and chocolate here, with a creamy-smooth finish. Just a delicious brew. One I’d love to have again, for sure.

My bro in law brought a can of this over for the holidays. It poured a nearly opaque dark with off white head that is leaving a nice lace. The scent has hints of chocolate and roast. The taste is nicely balanced with roasty semi chocolate presence. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with smooth carbonation. Overall it's a solid beer.
