Slight light khaki colored froth with minimal retention... Cor is a slightly hazed peachy gold... Nose of sweet sugary citrus... Big flavor profile bursting with citrus and earthy dankness... On the fuller side of medium bodied... Sturdy and refreshing... Outstanding hop forward offering...

Fantastic soft yellow color, opaque pastel; big, thick white head, dense, rocky and creamy textured. Relatively fresh citrus smell; grapefruit and bitter orange. Muted, earthy taste with a sharp bitterness; yeasty and doughy; toasted grain and oats; citrus-like; sharp alcohol notes with a phenol edge. Heavy body; smooth and chewy.
A nice double India pale ale of the hazy-type, perhaps bordering on the milkshake variety based on the mouthfeel. It has a bracing flavor and feel; generally citrus-like with a soft, silky mouthfeel.
Pouring temperature: 43 °F; canning data: unknown

Note: NOT RETIRED - part of a rotating DIPA series, this one was (April 2020) DDH Motueka hops
L - an unfiltered, not murky juice, look; fantastic head, lacing, great smuggled in weight of 9% - ouch. But smooth.
S - tropical resin aromas of pineapple, citrus, grapefruit, and even some grape-y notes to the nose here. Motueka can give too many tropical notes that when handled poorly can remind me of mango, but that is not evident here. Good dry hopping.
T - Where this batch of In the Deep Steep shines - well done, ORB, maybe the best tasting bitter-yet-tropical DIPA I've had in 5-6 months? Smooth as Navaja, but much brighter in its Pacific hops rendition. Fabulous tropical fluff here, but with good back palate bitterness.
F - Fabulous - not overly carbonated, smooth, amazing mouthfeel - becomes slightly richer, sweeter, but not hot or boozy, as it warms. Amazing finish.
O - maybe the best DIPA I've had from ORB.
Edit: DDH Nelson version from August is NUTS. Easily a 4.4/5 overall. Has all the grape-dank-intense aspect of the Nelson treatment, too, better than the regular version in my opinion.

Appearance: totally opaque with yellow-tan haze. The head is off-white which forms a 1-finger head that fades quickly.
Aroma: fresh pineapple, new growth spruce tips and passionfruit. The malt is sweet and bready that remains in the background. Well balanced.
Flavor: grapefruit and zest, juicy; almost sweet and tart like ruby-red grapefruit juice. The hops are so fresh, which last long into the finish. These hops are so good (Citra, Galaxy). As the beer warms the hops’ mouthfeel becomes mildly spicy.
Mouthfeel: light-heavy. Heavier than expected. Mildly spicy in the finish from the hops.
Overall: this is OR’s best to date that I’ve tried (In the Steep #2). Damn solid. This is a repeat purchase.

in the steep has been my absolute favorite of the exceptional outer range ipa types so far, hands down, so i expected a lot from this one, being the bigger version of the one i love so much, but after enjoying a glass of it, i still think i prefer the original, this seems almost overdone, about the max out point for hops in a beer, its almost not even liquid in a sense. super thick from the tap, murky and heavy yellow in color, a tall white head rests effortlessly on top, the high carbonation activity offsets some of the apparent density, at least visually. the aroma is awesome here, the best feature of the beer for me, juicy big dry hoppy goodness, mosaic seems to hit me first, this is what its supposed to smell like, maybe citra too, and then something a little more bitter, a simcoe sort of piney grapefruit zesty thing, but i dont know, this could all be one hop, its just so dynamic! pineapple and tangerine, juicy melon and lemon, lemongrass and papaya, its a veritable fruit cocktail! its hard to believe this is 9% abv, its not boozy at all, and more importantly, it has almost no sweetness about it despite having a nice cerealy grain flavor here and a great body, fluffy, maybe oats and raw wheat in here propping up all these hops. i taste it forever. in the end, it turns a little on me though, an intense bitter flash, almost like putting hop pellets in my mouth, it doesnt last long, but its enough to disrupt the flow a little bit. the juicy goodness comes back, and this does finish nicely, smooth and so flavorful and fresh, that harsh flash only lasts a second. creepily huge beer, another winner in the ipa department from these guys. totally killing it right now!
