A: The beer is clear golden yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high bright white head that consistently covered the surface.
S: The aroma has lots of flavors of candi sugars.
T: The taste follows the smell and has lots of flavors of candi sugar along with hints of fruity esters.
M: It feels a bit shy of being medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is rather easy to drink for a tripel that is 11% abv as it does a very good job at hiding the alcohol from the taste.

1500ml corked and caged magnum into the appropriate De Garre branded Snifter. Paid £22.00 for a single.

Pours a hazy, translucent, deep golden-orange body, with a small but consistent stream of carbonation visible throughout the duration of the glass. A huge, pillowy, three-finger in height, foamy, pure white head with fantastic retention slowly sinks to a dense cap, leaving behind thick clumps of sticky lace.

The delicate but complex nose is initially led in roughly equal parts by fruity yeast and sweet malt. Subtle notes of apple, pear, light-skinned stone fruit and lemon float alongside semi-sweet, crisp, grainy pale malts. Traces of pepper and clove become apparent towards the back-end, while hints of spicy alcohol provide a clue as to the 10.5% ABV. Taste roughly follows suit, adding small amounts of hop bitterness towards the finish. Lemony citrus, grainy unripe pear, green apple and stone fruit interweave seamlessly with toasty pilsner-like malts, candied sugar, and a doughy, bready sweetness. Mid-palate, traces of musty, earthy, hay-like profiles enter, and sweet fruity esters begin to gradually transition to drier, spicier and more bitter phenolic characters. Clove, cracked white pepper, coriander seed and hints of spicy, grassy, herbal and floral hop bitterness build towards the finish. In the mouth, a medium body and ample, but not aggressive carbonation give a feel that starts incredibly soft, smooth and creamy. After the swallow, faint, fruity traces of citrus, honeyed malt, gently bitter hops and medicinal spice combine with perceptible, but relatively well disguised alcohol to finish crisp and dry, with mild white wine-like astringency.

Overall this is a fantastic beer. Delicate and well balanced, each new sip reveals layer after layer of subtle complexity, serving to encourage consumption at a dangerous pace. Despite being well hidden for the 10.5% ABV however, alcohol is slightly more pronounced than in other examples of the style. With that said, after the first glass it quickly becomes impossible to find, drinking so dangerously easy, it’s rumoured patrons are cut off after three glasses at Staminee De Garre. Recommended.

11% tripel. Major carbonation issue, can't pour more than an inch of liquid, incredibly gently, without overflowing any reasonable size glass with foam. As with all of van Steenberge bottles I've found, no yeast at the bottom, making this more of a QC issue at the time of bottling than a bottle conditioning issue.

Pours a nearly clear light orange with obnoxiously billowing white head, settles fairly quickly given its size to a quarter inch thick cap with a whole mess of chunky lace strewn about. Smell: pils malt, candi sugar, booze, lightly peppery with notes of dried apricot and pear. Taste: juicy pear, yellow plum, dried apricot, peppery, spicy with coriander and clove-ish finish. Hefty body, a bit boozy even for a tripel. This colors within the lines but it's tasty.

On draft in a de Garre snifter. Huge head and clear golden appearance. Smells bittersweet. The sweetness is very candi-sugar-like while the bitterness is more quinine-like than hop-like. Well balanced. Medium body with tingling carbonation. A very nice Tripel.

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a hazy, medium golden amber with a big three finger white head with great retention and thick lacing; continual strings of carbonation in the glass, looks nice. Aroma of light stone fruit, candi malt, apples, coriander and clove, Belgian yeast. Flavor is dry bready and candi malt, mild stone fruit, orange, apple, coriander and clove, finishing with an interesting, almost medicinal coriander, clove and pepper spicy finish that is ultimately mellowed by the malt and fruit. Medium bodied with a pleasant creaminess (enhanced by the thick head) and great carbonation. A really exceptional tripel. Drier than expected with complex fruit flavors that add a mild sweetness. The finish was a bit surprising the first time, but the other flavors really support the burst of spicing in the finish. The high ABV is well covered. A dangerous ale; the flavors keep encouraging constant sipping but the ABV requires a slow approach. One of the best tripels I've had. Glad for the opportunity to try it.

No date but just received from the rare beer club this week.

A: Hazy golden pour with an incredibly huge foamy white head. 7/8th of the glass is just foam (everytime I pour the damn thing). After it FINALLY fades away, there are little bits of lacing but not much.

S: Big malty sweetness, reminds me of pound cake. Pound cake batter, specifically. Light citrus and some cloves. Maybe some banana? Very light.

T: Huge malty sweetness now. Sweet and doughy and ultra smooth. A touch of hoppiness, citrus it seems and a little bitterness to boot. Just a little to help balance out the sweetness. Some spices going into the finish with cloves and maybe a hint of white pepper, especially in the aftertaste.

M: Fairly heavy, super soft and smooth.

O: Damn. One helluva tripel. It is INCREDIBLY smooth and easy drinking for such a big beer. Great doughy sweetness with just a enough spice and bitterness to balance it out on the back end. Smoothness of this beer cannot be overstated, it is one of the best I've had. Perhaps the best tripel I've had, in fact.

Poured from 750 mL bottle into snifter.
A: Pours a clear golden yellow hue with very slight haze topped by a 3-4 inch billowy white head with excellent retention. Thin lacing is left on the glass.
S: Soft citrus, white pepper, dry minerals, vanilla, and pear.
T: Apple and pear fleetingly hit first followed a nanosecond later by apricot, honey, vanilla, spicy white pepper, clove, and cherries. Dry cracker malt backbone holds it all together. With warming, more malt notes emerge with caramel, almond, and sourdough bread coming forward. Surprisingly complex, especially given the fairly straightforward nose.
M: Amazingly light body given the ABV. It's like magic how it drinks like a 5% brew...until the 11% ABV catches up with you! Fruity sweetness, dry spice, and nutty. Lingers and matures beautifully on the palate...lasts forever.
D: Wow! This is a phenomenal brew. Tips more toward the fruit (apple, pear, cherry, citrus, and apricot) than most tripels...which I don't mind. I can't say enough about how refreshing and light this comes across...no one would ever guess it's 11% (maybe by the end of the bottle they will!). Seek it out if you can!

Clear golden color with a large, fluffy white head. Aroma has floral yeast esters, slightly boozy and malty. Taste starts sweet and floral with a touch of sugar and finishes slightly bitter with lingering yeast notes. Medium to light bodied with medium carbonation. Not bad but it isn't by any means one of the better triples I had so far.

On tap. Served in a tulip glass. Pours a medium orange body, light straw yellow hue, one finger white head, plenty of retention, bits of lacing. Smells of rich stonefruit, yeast, esters, light cereal grain, candied sugar, minimal tartness, touch of earth. Nice complex aroma, with the flavour profile following closely. Cereal grain, pears, light minerality, light candied sugar, very light tartness, light golden apple flavour, light earthy bitterness, and minimal boozy heat. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, clean and crisp despite having a body suitable for a 11% beer; very minimal heat as well. It's hard to imagine, but so it is. Overall a tasty tripel that has nice complexity and body to it; this is one I look forward to having again.

I love good tripels and have been looking for this one for years. I did not expect to find it on tap in Detroit!

Nose is nice but not strong.
Taste is a bit on the sweet side for the style. Light fruits, apple notably, with a significant spicy flavour. White pepper, a bit of coriander. Malts provide a sweetness, bready with honey. Booze is more prominent than hoped for, otherwise feels good, though carbonation is a bit intense.

A good tripel, but not in the same league as Westmalle, Karmeliet or even Chimay. Perhaps better from the bottle- if I ever find out, I will re-review.

Poured into a snifter with a rich creamy head and nice lacing. The smell is sharp and fruity. The taste is not overly sweet, crisp pears and apples. Some caramel And warm spice. Smooth and enjoyable beer!

It pours a slightly hazy golden yellow under a foamy off-white head that fades down.

Aroma of pale malts, spice, pepper, and a little citrus zest.

Medium, soft body.

The taste tends to go spicy and peppery with maybe some ginger, sage, and other biting spices. The pale toasted malts are mellower than the spice.

Excellent big Belgian tripel. Extremely long lasting head, with a ¼ inch head the entire drink. Nice pale, red color, with an awesome nose. Malt, citrus, and some great farmhouse finish. Some alcohol present, but fades to a wonderfully dry end. Nice job! Comes off more refreshing and less sweet than I was expecting. Will buy again, even at $15. Would love to go to the bar where this is served!

Cloudy look, not as bright as I'd expect. Musky aroma with a strong head. Flavors are sweet and savory. Not as boozey as it could be for a tripel. Good beer.

Enjoyed this beer at De Garre while visiting Brugge on 11/8/2015. Served in a De Garre goblet with a dense latte-like head that exhibited excellent retention during the tasting. Color was a tawny orange-gold with a slightly hazy clarity. Nose expressed citrus fruit esters, a kiss of coriander and yeast. Taste follows but was not as expressive as the nose - a little more dull and muted with a slightly herbal finish. Mouthfeel was light-medium in body (but closer to light) with a pleasant, even carbonation. Overall, a solid example of the style - great nose and appearance; however, it fell slightly short in its other components. A great beer, but not up to its world-reknown hype in my opinion.

I had this at Staminee De Garre in Bruges. Everything about this beer was amazing!! , it is the best Tripel i have ever had. If only i can get a keg or bottle of this in CA would be great!

Orange tinged gold. Frothy white cap. Aroma is of orange, stone fruit, banana, sweet bread. Estery and warm. Lightly spicy No alcohol is noticeable. The flavor is sugary baked bread and apricot with banana and orange. Rich malt and flavorful malt. Lightly spicy throughout. Warming alcohol in the finish. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Sticky finish. Great beer.

Drank at Staminee De Garre in Bruges. I don't give a lot of perfect scores, but I can't find anything wrong with this. Appearance is amazing. Smell and taste are amazing. Mouthfeel is like silk. Is it the best beer I've ever had? Damn close, but it's the perfect Tripel. Can't wait to open the magnum I brought home with me. Wow.

This poured with a hazy apricot orange color and a head with tons of life.

The aroma was sadly simple but overly fragrant. I caught strong banana and clove or peppercorn but that was about it.

The flavor is unlike the nose as its vastly complex with honey, maple syrup, yeast, clove, sweet green Apple and pear. The finish is a bit twangy as it there's a sour note.

The feel is slick and full but the carbonation is fuller and expansive.

Never been a huge fan of Tripels but I must say the flavor of this is amongst the most complex I've seen and it makes this well worth the try.

A- pours clear and golden with a small creamy white head with lace that sticks to the sides the entire way down as it settles

S- lots of fruity aromas up front of dried apple, ripe pear, peach and banana. Fresh baked bread aroma kicks in mid-palate with some peppery notes and clove. Earthy aromas and wet hay finish out the aroma

T- dry and fruity up front with big notes of banana and clove, lightly toasted fresh bread notes kick in, adding some sweet doughy notes. Peppery notes with citrus, lemongrass and hay close out the flavor, leaving a dry finish

M- medium body and carbonation, super creamy mouthfeel with a dry finish

O- sweet and creamy with nice banana and pear notes. Definitely one of the better Belgian Tripel's that I've had a chance to try

With a tremendous amount of fan-fare, its rare to see a Belgian Tripel as a real standout beer. Anxious to find out why this one excels, it already impresses with a magnum-size bottle- corked and caged.

With a pop and a pour, the ale layers into the snifter with a bright golden body and a creamy column of froth that rises with a gentle swirl. Its cottony-white foam retains the session effortlessly and trickles the glass with spotty lace. Its light haze sings the praises of its unfiltered and refermented character.

Vivid aromas of honeysuckle, fresh baking bread and light confections surprises the nose with its fruit and fauna. Oranges, apples, lemons, bananas and light peach provide a burst of ripeness that is the perfect counterpart to spices and hops. Freshly cracked white pepper, mild coriander, paradise seed and slim clove blend into a damp hay for a curious earthen note heading into taste.

Its soft succulents wraps around the tongue with light and crisp bread. As the sweetness folds into the mix, its subtle taste of cookie dough and marzipan approaches nutty and light toasted proportions. Its fruit and spice middle is met with light marzipan and citrus peels that bounces off of exotic lemongrass spice before diving into a lightly bitter finish, laced with fresh straw and hay.

Medium bodied, the ale is zesty with ample carbonation that gives rise to the beer's underlying white wine acidity. As it wisps away the sweetness, the malts seem to vanish right off of the tongue like powdered sugar. What's left behind is dry bread, earthen bitterness and wine-like echoes.

I think that the allure of the beer is that is a more whimsically sweetened Belgian Tripel that resembles more of a Strong Golden Ale except with the high effervescence of Tripel. I rather enjoy the lighter earthy flavors and the softer sweetness that this ale provides- making it worthy of its high praise.

Goblet served at brasserie V in Madison wisconsin

look is a hazy amber-orange, with a ring of foam. smell is delicious: apples, citrus, banana, clove. feel is a little slick and oily, but the taste....oh the taste. apple/pear citrus, with a little clove and spice in the finish. the 12% is completely imperceptible.

This beer was the crown jewel of my beer adventure through Europe. It was served in a bar, De Garre, that was hidden in an alley way near downtown Brugee Belgium. I was with my professor who had been to Brugge six times before he finally found De Garre. The beer is only served on tap in this location and you are only allowed to have three glasses of their beer before they cut you off because you won't be able to appreciate the masterpiece of the beer they have made.
I only say all this to add to hype I had going into trying this beer.
The appearance: the beer is served in the Garre glass ware that reminds me of a oversized bourbon sniffer. The color is a clear golden nectar. The beer looks to have a large head, but it seems to help protect the beer.
The smell wasn't overpowering but you realized what you are about to drink. There isn't a alcohol smell at all.
Taste: the beer had a crisp taste and had a full body flavor of the different bouquets.
Mouthfeel: a little bubbly but smooth. Had light creamy texture.
Overall: the beer had a had a large hype for going in and I feel like it lived up to it.

25 cl. draft at ‘t Waagstuk as ‘t Waagstuk. Although it has a separate entry on BA. This is just a label beer and the same beer as Tripel Van De Garre. A beer which in turn probably differs not much from other Van Steenberge offerings.

Appearance: Hazy orange with a creamy white head.

Smell and taste: Slightly sweet with lots of yeast and citric notes. Picking up also some herbs and some spices. Notes of tangerines, nice chunk of dried Turkish fruits, touch banana and booze.

Body: average, slightly lively.

It is okay but not particularly distinguishable from a whole other slew of Belgian beers and not particularly to my liking. Just another semi-macro offering. This just felt massively over-hyped to me – a case of marketing and limited availability driving the hype train. Lots of better and more interesting triples out there.
