L: Hazy amber with lots of bubbles and a huge, fluffy off white head. The head dies down within a minute to about a third its original size, but that fluffy cap sticks around forever after and leaves rings of lacing.

S: Huge plum, cherry, and fig; sherry and port wine qualities, a big biscuity malt backbone with a hint of detectable booze, some overripe banana, and clove.

T: Overripe banana immediately upfront, but that quickly glides away into massive amounts of black and sweet cherries, dates, figs, raisins, and plums. There's a big toasted, biscuited malt backbone, along with some honey sweetness. You get a decent warmth of alcohol. There's a general port wine, sherry, or even brandy character floating around, with the massive dark fruits, dryness, and boozy kick. Finishes decidedly dry, with boozy warmth going down, and some clove notes.

F: Full-bodied, with a pushing champagne carbonation on the mid-palate, that gives a smooth sensation, but pushes to the beer to a quick, dry, and warm finish.

O: An excellent Belgian ale. This one is a heavy hitter, meant for a cold winter night or an especially bad day. (heh heh) Drinks more like a fine wine or brandy than a beer, but is fantastic nevertheless.

It is a frothy full bodied slightly cloudy amber color. The smell is fruity, nutty, and malty with hints of all sorts of other things. The taste is definitely boozy and there is a lot going on. The aftertaste is slightly bitter, but it goes down smooth. Overall this was a pretty good beer and I would definitely drink again. It's very expensive here, but if I saw a good price on it I would definitely pick some up

Pear, honey, banana, clove, spice. The Aroma is absolutely stunning. Can't believe I've never had (or remembered rating) this. Boozy af. Similar taste. Sweet, medium bodied. Slightly sticky mouthfeel. So well made!

These Belgian Strong Pale Ales pack a powerful and flavorful wallop..I'll tell ya'.... Very malty and sweet goodness. But the 10.5% ABV tempers the malty/sweet taste. This is not as good as the Chimay stuff, but comes close.

The kind of beer you first expect to be an alcoholic mess, but just impresses you more each time you try it. Pours copper amber with a largish head that leaves good lacing. Nose is brown bread, British Xmas pudding, cola, and a touch of booze. Taste is similar, like a drier barleywine, with added vanilla to go with the strong malt fruits and some black pepper. A beer that always surprises. Better than most of the beers from this brewery, but not as good as the excellent Gulden Draak and GD 9000.

Pours a amber color body with moderate carbonation. Piney, sweet, bitter, bready. The complexity really makes this one shine.

Piraat Belgian Ale, 10.5% ABV. Pours thick and dark orange with a lot of head on a careful pour. Nose is subtly fresh and spicy, taste is a bit sweet, slightly sour citrus, a bit of black pepper aftertaste, with almost no bitterness. Real unique flavor. Excellent mouthfeel, and overall outstanding. The BA listing says 10.8% but this bottle says 10.5%. This isn't the Piraat beer I intended to buy, so a pleasant surprise.

Looks sunburnt orange with significant head. Smell is nondescript faint hops and a hint of sour. Taste is clove, sour hops, bready malt, and maybe a hint of banana and pine on the end. Mouthfeel is thick, chewy, and refreshing. Damn good, and I don't typically go for Belgian beers.
