Poured from a 750 into a snifter.

Good pour, light golden in color with a dense white head. Looks pretty good. Smell is decent without mixing in the yeast. I mixed in the yeast at the end of the bottle and it just exploded with citrus, clove, and slight banana.

The taste has a slight bubblegum, slight banana flavor, and a mild orange. Not as complex as I was expecting. The alcohol sets this off. The bite is far too harsh. The body is pretty thin.

Overall, this is a decent beer. I was expecting more to it though. It has some of the great Belgian yeast character and balanced bitterness, but it's almost ruined with the bite of alcohol. I probably would not buy this one again.

Poured from 11.2 oz. bottle into a Duvel tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours a very hazy brownish orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Big four finger white head that sticks for a while and settles into a single finger layer. Lots of lace on the glass.

Smell: Very spicy and fruity. Big aroma of Belgian yeast with bananas and cloves. Also a pretty noticeable scent of citrus orange, mango, pear, and apple. Some floral hops, pale malts, and a bit of pepper round things out. Pretty full and complex.

Taste: Full flavored and complex. Starts out with a typical Belgian explosion of yeast, cloves, and banana. Than comes a pretty good dose of citrus and floral hops. Good hints of orange, grapefruit, mango, pear, and apple. Not as bitter as a American IPA but fairly hoppy. Some bready malts are tasted towards the end. Very tasty.

Mouthfeel: Fairly thick and full bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. Chewy and slightly sticky. Alcohol is hidden pretty well. Finishes dry.

Overall: A very good Belgian ale here. Packed with flavor and great balance of spice, sweetness, and bitterness.

Bottle from an LCBO giftpack, 330ml into a chalic. Best before May 3, 2013.

Poured a hazy golden brown with a couple fingers of white head. Good retention and lacing. Nose is spicy, some fruits esters, a bit of banana and big yeast notes. Taste is spicy as well, drying yeast notes, fleshy white fruits and a significant bitterness in the finish. Sweet malts with a chunk of alcohol for good measure; substantial heat from this. Medium high carbonation, chewy with a medium heavy feel. Pretty good, but doens't stand out. The flavour profile to alcohol content ratio is too low to thoroughly enjoy.

An intensely sweet mix of bananas, cloves, and sweet sugary elements. The beer really takes one Hef like elements though the weight and power are clearly something else.

Intensely sweet, sugary, and full of cloves and bananas…oh and alcohol. Very flavorful and intense, but hardly the complexity I would expect. This is NOT an IPA or Belgian IPA by any stretch!

Wow this is harsh. A lot of alcohol and rather hard to drink. Still the carbonation and mouth feel seems impressive given the style and abv.

This would be a lot better with less alcohol. Still pretty good flavors and decent carbonation to make it work.

Copper gold in color, an aggressive pour into a tulip was needed to produce a half inch foamy head that quickly dissipated to a ring. Not much lacing to this one.

Nose is light bready malt, sugar, caramel, pears, apples, and tropical fruits, coriander and ginger.

This tastes of light bready malt, and is quite spicy, with loads of coriander, toffee, sugar, tropical fruit punch, orange peel, a metallic cola flavor from the yeast, and a mild hop finish with a long note of ginger. The alcohol level is boozy. I enjoy the yeast flavors and the spice, but this is a bit sweet.

This bottle seemed a bit less carbonated than others I have enjoyed. Still, the body is medium, and the carbonation is crisp with a refreshing, cleansing mouthfeel.

Overall, this is a good belgian pale ale, it is spicy and sweet, with some noble variety hops, and is quite boozy.

This was one of my favorites as I first got into belgian ales, but it was only available in 750 ml bottles which I found hard to handle. Then it came out in the 330 ml stubby format which I am enjoying now.
