First, go watch the YouTube video of the guy from Global Beer Network describing this beer. Then, after you get done laughing, go buy a bottle and be surprised at what this beer is *not*: not aggressive, not overly hopped, not powerful enough to leap tall buildings, or even small garden sheds, at a single bound. And *then* enjoy it for what it is: malty, yeasty, fruity and round; not ham-handed and certainly not mean and nasty. Another example of Belgian-beer greatness.

Arrgh, indeed.

Nice toffee and caramel overtones with bits of a sweetish scent in there somewhere. Possibly some orange peel, if not I'm getting that pillowy scent I like that's in a number of ales that I think is orange peel.

Bit of a warming sensation with the beer, some residual presence on the palette light to drink but a bit of oiliness. Not overly hoppy or bitter, but there is a firm bitterness. Lower end of carbonation scale, nice and doesn't hide flavors.

Poured amber with possibly hints of red with a defined stark head. Started 3/8" or so but fell pretty quickly to 1/8" or less and is lacing fairly well.

Getting some hints of the alcohol, but mainly a sweetish maltiness comes through. A bit of bitterness after the fact, but the toffee/maltiness is to the forefront.

For a 10.5% abv beer this is pretty drinkable. I don't know if it's quite as drinkable as Duvel. ABV is hidden enough (my biggest problem with many big beers is tasting the alcohol) that I could drink a few.

This is an excellent high gravity belgian with a very good aroma. I like the lower carbonation, nice maltiness even though an IPA that offsets the higher hops and nuanced way the alcohol is there but not to the forefront.

Served cold on tap at Cheeky Monk in a properly branded tulip glass.

Appearance is golden amber in color with thick towering head. It settles slowly with nice spotty lacing left behind.

Aroma is more Belgian yeast than big hops. I still get a little citrus but it's more banana and spice.

Flavor is very intense with big hop bitterness. It doesn't completely overwhelm the malts and yeast but it's close. Then again, at over 10%, it needs to have big hops just to give it balance.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and well carbonated. Alcohol is noticeable after a few small sips. No doubt this is a strong seductive beer.

Overall really well done Belgian IPA. If there was such a category, I'd say it's really a double.

Pours from a bottle into a globe glass a caramel color with a nice white crown. Yeast and subtle malt in the nose. Nothing subtle about the taste. Warm malts and alcohol predominate, with wholesome cereal notes in back. Heavier in the mouth nicely balanced with carbonation.
