330 ml bottle poured into a goblet

A: Pours a rich amber red with an off white head, no retention, no lacing and a good amount of carbonation.

A: Belgian yeast, spice, caramel, toffee, malt, slight banana, subtle aromas, no alcohol on the nose.

T: Not as complex as the nose, slight notes of dark fruits up front, raisins, figs, plums, Belgian notes in the finish, caramel, toffee, slight spice and banana as well, finish has lingering notes of yeast, malt, and spice.

M: Light bodied, very thin, semi-dry finish.

O: Nice aroma but it's subtle, I expected the flavor to equal the aroma, it doesn't, very thin as well.

Dark brown haze and a modest and very steady head of foam. Smell of malt, yeast, caramel and some pear. The taste is a tad sweet, with malt, dark fruits, caramel and a hint of autumn leaves. Body is medium to full, taste lingers quite well. A dubbel that ticks all the boxes, without being a stunner. So, last dubbel (or quad, or winter warmer, or export/RIS) for me, change of seasons: let the sunshine in, bring out the maybocks, tripels and IPA's!

330ml bottle:
Quite a disappointing offering on the whole despite starting quite well thanks to the nice combination of caramel & toffee flavours plus the biscuit malts at the start. The problem with this one was that it seemed to fade far too quickly & come the middle there wasn't really much of anything going on save for some subtle fruits & a hint of sugar. Quite a bland & uninspiring offering that seemed a little plain & definitely wasn't as good as some of the better Belgian dubbels I've tried in the past; this is probably one to avoid I' afraid.

In a blind tasting I would have guessed this was a Scotch ale. The color and lack of head/head retention certainly suggests so, as does the heavy maltiness and peaty-ness of the aroma and flavor. Dubbels are not a style I particularly enjoy but this one is pretty good, perhaps because it doesn't remind me of one!

330 ml bottle, Lidl, Bristol - Very feisty pour, clear amber with a very large white foamy head. Strong/medium carbonation. Nice lacing. Aroma - bready/yeasty front, ripened orchard fruits. Taste - very sweet front, ripe fruits, caramel, malty, yeasty, light bitter finish. Very drinkable Belgian ale.
