De estucerveza. En copa de GrimbergenLa mejor de las biere du boucanier que he probado. Rico perfil acaramelado que se integra muy bien con un fondo de tipica belgian blonde

Clear copper-tinted amber brew with a big foam in the Avec les Bons Voeux chalice. Big fruity aroma with a yeasty zing. Clove and banana and carrot cake. Sweet and malty with the sudden dry, mineral finish.
If you're in the mood for the cloying cake taste, this is pretty good stuff with a big Belgian character. However I think Brouwerij Van Steenberge has one really big vat somewhere in a factory and their real business is coming up with interesting labels with funny names. From the standard double bump 330 ml bottle.

Found a bottle discounted at the LCBO. Served chilled. Appearance is a a coppery gold brown, good initial head with solid lacing. Very clear with visible carbonation.
S - notes of crystal malt, caramel, candy apple, crisp fruit notes, grape and gooseberry, a firm yeasty character. Slick pear sweet notes, bready, some muted earthy hop notes.
T - interesting interplay of the biscuity/cracker like malts, with a sherry-like or red wine-like syrupy character. Malty sweetness, with cherries, graham cracker, and drying with some more vineous character on the finish. Too sweet all around I think, belgian yeast is there for sure but gets buried a bit behind the candied aspects. Spicy notes come forward as well.
M - coating, with a syrupy vineous character, drinks almost like a port wine but with some moderate carbonation. Very sweet, big satisfying body. A big rich fruity malty beer, has enough bitterness and alcohol bite to balance out.
A good Belgian red, but not a beer I would drink regularly. It does show off some better character as it warms. Lots of flavour but a bit too candied and sweet I think, they went very heavy on the candi sugar/crystal malts and it comes across as sweetened and heady with the strength.Good character and lot of potential, but could have come across better.
