Clear amber color with off-white head. Aroma has belgian yeast, burnt sugar and booze. Taste starts sweet and boozy up-front with overripe fruits and sugar. Medium to heavy body with high effervescence. Not my style of beer. The yeast esters combined with the sugary sweetness, booze and high effervescence make the beer really difficult to drink.

On tap at Max's the other day. Am a big fan of the regular Boucanier, and so was looking forward to trying this.

The beer pours a solid gold color with good head retention and decent lacing. Surprisingly, I really didn't get a whole lot on the nose, just some light honey, vanilla, light clove and some underlying spice. The honey and vanilla were really prominent on the palate, to the point that I was unhappy with the sweetness level in this beer. It was still tasty, but the sweetness seemed to all but drown out the underlying spice in this beer. Mouthfeel was a bit more thin than I was expecting, though the beer finished well, and I appreciated how smooth the beer was on the palate. Alcohol was well integrated into the flavor profile, and despite the sweetness, the beer did not come across as overly boozy, tiring or heavy.

Shrug. This is an OK beer, but in all honesty, I think I prefer the regular boucanier version.

A - very nice hazy dark orange color with sediment since it ferments in the bottle
S - creamy smell of the malt mixed with peaches, apples and cider
T - effortless taste of peaches, cider, apples and port wine. Very well balanced, mixed and diffused. Perfectly well hidden alcohol.
M - very nice carbonation
D - very very drinkable, but be careful of the high ABV!

On tap at Lucky Baldwins in Pasadena, CA.

Pours a hazy orange with a foamy off-white head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. A foamy curtain of lace coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, honey, spices, fruits, and yeast. Taste is much the same with a fruity flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is strong and somewhat sticky.

Golden orange, medium carbonation, malty spice in the nose. Pleasantly flavored with many of the spices typical of Christmas beers over a sweet, biscuity malt base. Alcohol extremely well hiden, and mouthfeel very smooth.

Overall a very nice Christmas ale, if not particularly complex. I would enjoy having more than a few of these over the winter months, though the price (around $5 for 330ml) makes that unlikely.

Strong alcoholic taste. A bit sour, which was unexpected. Difficult taste.
