Gulden Draak Cuvée Prestige LaphroaigGulden Draak Cuvée Prestige Laphroaig
Notes: In addition to the Cuvée Prestige matured in Bourbon barrels, we let the Gulden Draak Classic mature in Laphroaig barrels for 8 weeks. These come from the eponymous Scottish whiskey distillery on the island of Islay. This single malt whiskey is characterized by a very pronounced peat taste. It goes without saying that the smoky, full character of this is also reflected in the taste of the Cuvée Prestige and thus provides a quirky blend.

Beer type: Gulden Draak
Alcohol content: 10.5% Vol.
Aged in barrel: 8 weeks
Barrel type: Laphroaig whiskey barrels
Number of times used: 2
1st use: Jim Beam Bourbon
2nd use: Scottish Distillery Laphroaig

A dark amber color with a large tan head. Good retention.
Aroma of peat, whiskey, caramel, and fruit.
Peat and whiskey stand out in the taste. Caramel background. Sweet fruit finish.
Medium-bodied, flavors compliment each other quite well.

A: Pours up a brighter mahogany with tones of caramel in it, with a smooth, four-finger head. Good retention, nice lacing.
S: Smoke and brine give way to more subtle suggestions of fruit and specifically a calvados vibe, with hints of cherry. As the beer sits, the nose picks up hints of bitter chocolate that are quite refreshing.
T: Tastes of fruit pie with smoke and brine at the mid[pint that gives way to a nice (but slight) cherry tartness here in what is a gratifyingly long finish with a pleasant touch of astringency. There are pleasant notes of butterscotch here as well and hints of chocolate that begin to present themselves as the beer opens up. The beer does get more boozy as it sits as well, though never so much as to be anything but pleasant.
M: medium body, medium carbonation.
O: I don’t think this replaces the standard Gulden Draak, which is one of my all time favorite beers, but it is excellent. If I had one complaint, which would be nitpicking I assure you, it would be that it could be slightly less Laphroaiged, but only slightly. I only say this because I wish the beer were more obviously Gulden Draak, not because the experience itself is not sublime. As a huge fan of Islay Scotch and Laphroaig, and as a huge fan of Belgian Beer and Brouwerij Van Steenberge this was a match made in have that I feel fortunate to have had the privilege to sample.

De cervezasdiferentes. En copa huevo Gulden Draak. Estudiando y Jugando a Fortnite. Con galletas Tostarica. Notas a turbas suficientemente suaves para no molestar e incluso aportar complejidad y riqueza. Lo único malo es que se sube a la cabeza bastante más de lo que para 10.5 debiera, en línea con lo más puramente belga

75 cl. corked bottle bought at Las Buenas Pulgas, served at home in a Gulden Draak dragon egg glass.
Big head that slowly fades to a thin resistant layer, amber colour, great lacing.
Aroma of peat, whisky, caramel, chocolate, fruits.
Medium to full body, creamy texture, good carbonation. Sweet finish.
Taste is smokey, with whisky, wood, caramel, fruits.-
Classic Gulden Drrak flavours with a great peaty touch.
