Bottom line, to me, this was not a blonde. Very strong yeast esters. Flavor profile was somewhere between a Belgian strong (which I guess is more what I associate with this brewery) and a triple...but not particularly great ones. Overall, an okay beer, but loses points in terms of being a blonde. Alcohol influence was also too strong for style.

330 mL bottle from a sampler picked up at the LCBO; listed at 7% and best before June 18 2016. Served slightly chilled.

This one pretty much exploded into foam instantly when I popped the cap off, wasting at least a quarter of the bottle. It pours a cloudy golden-yellow colour, topped off with about an inch of resilient, soapy, sparkling-white head. Good retention, with lots of lace - this blonde ale certainly looks nice. Mildly sugary-sweet aroma, with some grainy pale malts and yeasty bread, as well as notes of apricot, green apple and pear. There are also hints of banana and clove spice.

The flavour follows much along the same lines - quite sweet, with notes candi sugar, honey and grainy malt sweetness. Light notes of apple flesh and pears also come through, along with suggestions of peach, banana and sultana raisin. Yeasty towards the finish, with a mild clove spiciness. Sweet aftertaste, with banana and apricot. Medium in body, with assertive carbonation levels typical of this style - it provides a good, solid bite, and the overall mouthfeel is crisp, light, and smooth. Easy to drink for its strength, but not remarkable in any way whatsoever.

Final Grade: 3.65, a B grade. Augustijn Blond is a decent beer, but still not a very notable one. The alcohol is well-masked, and while the flavour profile is suitable and not at all offensive, this still strikes me as a forgettable Belgian pale ale. There just isn't anything jumping out at me about this one, for better or worse. I'd certainly consider having this beer again, and would consider it at least worth a shot - but don't expect anything more than a serviceable Belgian blonde.

Purchased as part of a mixed 6pk from the LCBO for $18.00. Pretty good for $3.00/beer. Served at 5deg C in a tulip

A- Opens well and pours a nice head. Go slow pouring Danielson! Dark golden good. Head stays well and to a film for a the remainder of the pour

S- A bit light but yeasty good.

T- Young. Not quite up to snuff in the flavor department. A light Duval

M- Dry as expected.

O- Very good. Nice Belgium blonde. Worth the $3.00 for a 330ml bottle no problem.

Food Pairing

This nice blonde went well with..... cheese and olives. Vary the cheese to get a good punch then mild.

Enjoy!!
