From a 330 ml bottle into a tulip.

Pours a pale yellow gold in color with a massive 4 finger frothy head that breaks rather quickly leaving some decent lacing and a thin cap of foam.

The smell is typical of a Belgian pale, with yeasts and breads up front and some fruits on the tail. The Taste is similar to smell, with the yeadst and breads coming strong and fruits coming later and softening.

The feel is decent, the carbonation is medium and the mouth feel is lighter with a bit of a dry finish.

Overall not a bad beer. The alcohol is hidden well and the flavors come together nicely.

I have a strong feeling this beer has been sitting around the store for a very long time, probably expired.. Production code is 22IJ 11:06 but I have no idea what it stands for.

Appearance - Had to stop pouring less than half-way through because it generated 3 inches of white foam. Looks like soap suds and lasts a long time. Color is a dark copper/gold color. Has nice lacing.

Smell - Yeast, toffee, whiskey/alcohol, and spices.

Taste - Very sweet with honey, light spices, a little fruity, and a strong alcohol bite like a whiskey ale..

Mouthfeel - Thick bodied with a fair amount of carbonation.

Overall - This is the first Belgian pale ale I've ever tried but the alcohol aftertaste just grosses me out..

330 ml bottle poured into an oversized wine glass. part of the six bottles from Van Steenberge at the LCBO for $18.95 CDN. Bottle indicates ABV is 7% not 8% as listed here.

Appearance - Pale golden / copper color with 1 finger of head. The head had a short retention time but left a soapy cap at the top and some lacing cascading down the glass.

Smell - Belgian yeasts, and bread notes dominate up front, transitioning into a some sweet candied fruits namely apricot and pear. Light boozy smell here as well.

Taste - Bready sweetness, boozy and less fruit in the mouth than was picked up on the nose. Might be some sort of candied pear flavor in there. Leaves a slightly bitter aftertaste, and to me was a bit bland given the nose on this beer. The beer does however, improve a bit as it warms.

Mouthfeel - Fairly rich and decadent, but a bit too much carbonation and is a bit syrupy. It does coat the palate nicely though.

Overall - It's a good but unspectacular Belgian pale Ale, would much rather move up the weight class a bit into Strong Belgian Pale Ales and have one of those.
