The unsurpassed Gulden Draak Classic as a dark triple of 10.5% alcohol received a strong addition after 25 years of ever-growing success, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

The particularly rich and complex flavor palette and full head of foam is also found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. However, the sweet notes of caramel remain reserved for the Gulden Draak Classic.

Gulden Draak Quadruple Family
The new recipe based on 4 times more malt gives the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a deep golden amber color and a slightly fruity aroma. Together with the soft and slightly sweet taste, this creates a beautifully rounded bouquet with notes of dried fruit.

Like the other specialty beers from Brewery Van Steenberge, Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple is a top-fermented beer with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for secondary fermentation, which not only contributes to the incomparable taste but also ensures years of shelf life with flavor evolution.

STYLE Amber barley wine.

VIEW Amber with slight orange glow, very bright. fine white foam head.

AROMA Fruity, slightly sweet full-bodied aromas with a very rounded finish.

FLAVOUR Softly bitter with notes of dried fruit. 4 times more malt than for a lager beer.

INGREDIENTS Water, barley malt, sugar, hops and yeast.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.

Deep and glowing amber orange body, with a good middle column of roaring carbonation in the centre. Head manages a light cream quality, about two fingers with a good appearance of pinhead bubbled puck, that keeps getting repopulated on the sides. Looks like a slight vanilla whipped top for the head too.

Aroma is soft bisquit like malts, large vanilla cream sensations too, and classic fruity Belgian esters and sweetness. Candi like sugar gives way to accenting the malt sweetness more so, in an almost pastry bakery like flavor. Really does smell like a soft vanilla white cake.

Palate makes no mistakes about what it is. Spicy warmth and a big clove and nutmeg hea hit the palate on first sip. Sweet malts come in even with a mild astringency of bitterness on the finish, and coat with a warm brandy like booze warmth. Finishes a bit clean as well, and a good accent of caramel sweetness and softness continue in the palate. With the hot phenols a sense of almost tight carbonation feels like it's coming in, but ends up more simple and just a little higher than moderate. Playful. Bakery sweet. Excellently balanced seeming less hot than it's ABV indicates.

A real interesting take, and not what I was expecting on a quad as I was expecting darker and more fig/raisin qualities. That being said I can take this in a heartbeat anytime and probably would prefer it to the former. Love the bakery sweetness and feel to it too.

Opening the bottle produced a gusher of foam and beer. After cleaning up the mess, the pour appeared as a lightly cloudy honey color; nice carbonation; head was thick and white, spongy texture yet rocky in appearance, very long lasting. Fine, sweet malt smell infused with orange and raisin aromas; mild caramel and toasted grain. Very pleasant flavors; mandarin orange and spices; candi sugar sweetness; slight bitterness; a touch of alcohol presence. Medium-heavy body; sticky; semi-dry; soft with carbonation.

I found this beer to be fairly enjoyable overall. I didn't anticipate the bottle opening surprise, but the smell and taste were quite good.

Poured from a 11.2 oz bottle into a snifter glass.
L - Pours a hazy dark amber color with a frothy white head that dissipates slowly.
S - Smells of spices.
T - Tastes of dried fruit with a slight sweetness on the finish.
F - Body is on the thicker side of medium, with carbonation on the lower end.
O - Very drinkable for the ABV of 10.7 %. I’m liking this beer a lot.

Excellent. Raisin, fig, prune flavor profile but not very sweet. High drinkability but with an almost fluffy mouthfeel that's really appealing.

Purple fruits (raisin, plum, prune), brandy, sourdough bread, burnt caramel. Much more noticeably boozy than the original Gulden Draak, imo. I prefer the original, but this is tasty, too.

Appearance: Pours a completely clear, medium bronze to amber color with a massive and pillowing white head that billows, layers, and lasts for days. (4.50)

Aroma: Strong aromas of rich bread, caramel, some dark fruit and Belgian bread spices and yeast. (4.00)

Flavor: Strong flavors of rich bread, caramel, banana upfront. Then some hints of dark fruit and more overripe banana. Shows the booze toward the end. Sweet, bready, finish. (4.00)

Feel: Heavier-body, average to low carbonation. A boozy, sweet finish. (3.50)

Overall: One of the most authentic and prominent Belgian Quads. Ranked #41 on BeerAdvocate. Strong and rich bread, caramel, banana. Some hints of dark fruit. It's big, boozy, and sweet. Pretty good stuff here. I bet even better if I'd let it age a bit. Not as dark as I expected for a Quad, almost leaning toward a Belgian Strong Ale. Authentic and a very good dark Belgian beers. Gonna sip this. (Rating: 3.98)

Poured from a bottle at fridge temp. Pours a nice amber with an abundance of head. Sticks around for a while and leaves some impressive lacing. The nose is Belgian yeast, bread, smooth toffee, and a nice vinous layer.

The taste is wonderful. Sweet malts, caramel, yeast, pears, apricot, and maybe a touch of Christmas spice. Such a pleasant beer with a nice subtle sweetness on the aftertaste.

Poured from an 11.2 oz bottle into a Willi Becher glass.

The beer pours a slightly hazy orange/copper color, with a rocky off white head that recedes quickly leaving behind minimal lacing

The aroma is caramel and toffee, with a nice Belgian yeastiness. To a lesser degree there are some lightly fruity notes going on; raisins, plums, and maybe just a hint of apple.

Tthe taste is similar to the nose, but with a bit more breadiness. Lots of caramel/toffee, dark fruits, Belgian yeast, and a nice warmth from the alcohol. Medium bodied and well carbonated, with a slightly dry finish.

Overall, this is a very nice beer that is readily available. I will definitely keep it in my rotation

Unquestionable reminder of a brandy soaked fruitcake. Sweet and bitterness of raisin and moist bread, soaked in brandy. Warming of alcohol without too much sharpness. Inherently sippable but very much a one and done because of it's richness. Delicious all the same!

330ml bottle into a tulip. Coded 01FV.

Looks nice enough, slightly hazy amber body, persistent white head leaving thick lacing.

Vague aroma of apple. Taste is even less apple, very warming, and quite sweet. Finish is warming leaning towards burning. Overall, ok, but nowhere near as good as the Classic.
