Tried the dark ale in the past and somehow missed this one, but when I realized it was an 11% golden ale. I had a hard time not trying it out.

Appearance. Totally meets expectations. A nice, near amber, gold with tints of orange and yellow. Foams up nicely and keeps a gravelly cream coloured head.

The smell is soft, kind of sugary. There is a hint of cheap caramel. The kind you might have thrown at you during a parade in the clear cellophane wrap. A sort of corn husk smell. A tinge of damp hay. A little astringent and boozy. But this fits with what I had anticipated in buying a strong ale with a pirate on the label. The one thing that puts me off a bit is a soapy tone toward the end.

Taste is quite nice, it is a bit sweet, but not to sweet. A great spiced taste. The booze gives it a slight astringency. There is a strange herbal hop character to it. A taste that is somewhat reminiscent of cedar. A Belgian candy sugar taste. Hints yeast. It is biscuity and the cheap caramel tone comes through a bit. I pick up a bit of vanilla and raw grains.

Mouthfeel is great! It is a boozy and high ABV beer but it is incredibly light in body and the carbonation makes it quite fluffy. The booze cause some warmth, but it is pleasant. It is a tad dry too. A big surprise. But I really like it.

Overall, a pretty solid strong golden ale. Pleasant to drink, not at all patchy or clunky. Maybe one of the most interesting and most tasty Belgian golden ales I have had for a long time. I will be seeing if I can get a few more bottles of this soon.

De estucerveza.com. En copa Grimbergen. Viendo mr robot 1x03-04. Aunque no desagrada, resulta demasiado sosa y aburrida para tanto abv, sin apenas matices. Consumo prefente en Nov 18

Pours a clear amber with a thick cap of off white head.

Smell is yeasty and spicy with notes of apple, raisins and dried fruit.

Taste is boozy and yeasty with notes of apples, spices, dried fruit with a solid bitterness. Gets less boozy and more fruity with warmth. Well alanced and pretty complex.

Mouthfeel is medium and smooth, well carbonated.

Overall, a really nice Belgian that improves with warmth.

Another solid beer from this particular brewery.
Similar yeast and related characteristics as bornem and gulden draak- lovely.
Poured from 33 cL bottle to a tulip. Bright gold with copious white head and soapy effervescence. Tons of lacing and foam that endures- smells of biscuit, tropical esters. Taste is very sweet malts forward, citrus and pineapple notes- toasted malty goodness- transitions to a a floral hoppy note and clean finish. Mouths feels medium with copious carbonation - astringency balances the sweetness.
Overall- great gold ale with well hidden abv- great accompaniment to a greasy meal- burger, fries, strong cheese.

Good BSPA!!! One of the last 3 beers I picked up in Vienna on a river cruise in Europe. Poured from a stubby 330ml bottle into my Chimay goblet. Big, highly carbonated white head with average to better than average retention. Lacing is pretty much little spots scattered around the glass. Aroma and taste include plenty of Belgian yeast, some mild citrus presence and candi sugar balanced by what I think is wheat bitterness (as opposed to hoppiness). There is some spicing (coriander) too. Mouthfeel is rich with almost no evidence of 11% abv. It is smooth and goes down easy. I would like to find more of this.

I had this in a Global Beer sampler two years ago, but have not found it since... but will hunt it down, along with my notes.
