Bought this at the advice of the beer guy at the grocery store; "this is a beer that tastes like Fall". Tonight feels like an early autumn night so why not?

Poured an 8/8/2019 16 ounce can into a tulip. Nice orangish amber color with a nice fluffy head that sticks around a while. Lots of spices in the smell with a bit of pumpkin. Taste is more spices than pumpkin but not in a bad way; rather the malts predominate in a pleasant way. Mouthfeel is likewise refreshing and pleasant.

The grocery store guy may have oversold this slightly but it's within allowable limits. It's a fine autumn beer but nothing spectacular.

Received as an extra in a trade. Canned on 7/28/19

A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a nice slightly hazy rust coloured hue with a thin one finger white head that fades slowly to leave a thin halo and light wisps.

S - Aromas of pumpkin pie spice galore. Cinnamon, nutmeg, little vanilla, some creamy malts and sweetness. Little bit of caramel malts as well.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with tons of pumpkin pie spice in here. Almost a little metallic as well. Flashes of vanilla and caramel. Rather straight forward but the finish is more lingering almost metallic bitterness.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated with decent body, however, comes off as a bit syrupy.

O - Overall this, like just about every 'pumpkin ale' was mediocre at best. Brew a beer with actual pumpkin and don't overload it with that terrible pumpkin pie spice. There's no need for that at all. I'd just have a Shipyard if I wanted some carbonated alcohol pumpkin spice latte minus the latte; but I wouldn't pay for it.

Shimmering burnt amber-brown with a persistent, khaki film clinging to the glass in wavy walls.

Smell is potent of powdered cinnamon with faint accents of pumpkin. Really, the spice overpowers the nose.

Taste is like Frosted Frog, and as such, it's much more Christmasy than a pumpkin or Halloween beer should be. I don’t really even get pumpkin--you really can't taste much else besides dusty, spicy cinnamon, except for maybe some caramelized apple pie crust.

The medium body has a nice froth but a scratchy, semi-dry swallow.

This is not a pumpkin ale. This is a #PSL minus the L and multiplied by an infinite number of PS.

Really it's just a cinnamon beer.

Canned on 8/2/18. 16oz can poured into a tulip. Pours a deep dark amber with solid clarity; small light khaki head that fades leaving nice retention and nice lacing. The aromas are subtle. Malts and spices are there, especially clove. Hints of caramel. The flavors basically follow the nose. Cinnamon, clove, ginger and nutmeg are there. More hints of caramel. Malts do their thing. Finishes dry. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is very nice. It's medium-bodied with sharp active carbonation. It's smooth and easy to drink.

This is an alright pumpkin ale. It's not bad at all, but it's basically just your typical pumpkin ale. It doesn't really stand out or come off as unique for the style. Maybe I just had high expectations because Masthead brews some exceptional beers. Once again, this isn't bad at all. It's enjoyable.

So I saw these in the store today, ok? Now when I look it up here on BA, I see there was (is??) an Underverse Pumpkin. That would be awesome. But that isn't at all what this is like, unfortunately. Why can't you get any Underverse at all off site?

Anyway, this is a totally different animal, with kind of a thin brown ale under some pumpkin and spice. It looks kind of shaky at first, and a bit of fine head appears late. Pale brown. The aroma is very sweet and spiced. Not overbearing, but very nice perfume. The taste is not what I had hoped for, but it still had a nice clean ale with spice on top feel that worked. It is definitely easier drinking than and Underverse would be, but nearly as strong. The mouthfeel is a bit thin, a nice feature for a boozy ale.

Recommended for a taste, at least. Glad I bought two cans.
