Visited during DC conference/beer sojourn November 2011 with jmichaelsen, thanks John.

Located in a slightly iffy part of Arlington with parking at a real premium. This is certainly a hole in the wall dive bar of the first degree. There's nothing remotely inviting about the place other than the really good tap list. We decided to sit at the bar, since John assured me this was the only way we were going to get any service, unless we answered the call of The Finger, which was humorous for those sitting at tables expecting a waitress to magically appear and take their order (not going to happen).

Dive pub grub food, we had the 'famous' tater tots with chili and cheese, and they were truly hideous, though added to the dive bar allure. The taplist was the key, we had several beers (Sculpin on tap!) but as expected first degree wallet burns ensued. I've gotten use to the sticker shock of DC beer scene, but you've got to pay the preacher for good brews here.

All in all a fine example of a dive bar, though it pails in comparison with the glorious The Big Hunt. I don't understand why BAs rate that place so low, it isn't Churchkey and isn't trying to be, just as this place isn't trying to be Rustica Balston. That diatribe aside, if my arm was twisted I'd come back here again, the service was attentive enough, nice selection of quality beers, the finger at the bar was unique, but won't ever be ordering those tots again, lol.

I really enjoyed this place. Many different styles of beer on tap as well as cans and bottles. The staff is extremely friendly. This place is small, dark and at the time displyed awesome artwork from comic Ben Classen. The food is comforting, with different selections, most notably the tater tots. There is also an outdoor patio. I went on a Sunday when they had live music, this time featuring a local band and a band from Boston. Both were instrumental, rhythm section heavy, with psych, math, and post-hardcore elements.

V-Be warned, Galaxy Hut is small, dark, kinda scummy, and may contain offensive art on the walls. In other words, it is a rad place to hang out and drink beer. The place really is tiny, with just five bar stools and a few small tables, including some sit-down video games. There is a tv, but it is from 1991 or so and the color is terrible. Seriously, not even close to a flat screen or HD, which is fine by me. Rock'n'roll is playing on the stereo, but it sounds like shit, so I'm pretty sure the sound system was built when the bought the TV. I like this place.

Q-The tap list contains about 20 beers of decent quality; things like Dale's Pale. Quite a few local offerings, which is nice, but nothing is blowing me away. There are 10 options on the can/bottle list of average quality.

Ser-The bartender is friendly and subdued. Glassware is appropriate and the pours are done correctly. The bartender was more interested in talking punk rock with a customer than talking beer, but he knew his beer.

Sel-I guess a place this small can't offer 100 taps or anything, but Galaxy Hut could have done a better job of spreading out the styles on their tap list. It was almost all IPAs and other pales when I visited. An almost IPA-only list is OK guess, because the IPAs were decent, but I could have used a bit more variety.

F-Didn't try.

O-I really like the dive-bar feel of this place. I just wish they had a better spread of beers on tap and lower prices.

A hip place with a great vibe, it has a good selection of beers on tap and it is located pretty close to the metro, so it is convenient and close to a great party area.

Galaxy Hut is a low-key, comfortable, small bar in the heart of Arlington, VA. It's a really nice get away from the too-oft uptight DC culture. The bar has a great selection of constantly-rotating craft beers on tap. They also have a small bottle selection.

The staff at Galaxy Hut are always super nice and chill, even when there is a long line of people waiting to order. My only complaint would be that there is no table service and usually only one bartender.

I would high recommend a order of tots to complement all the delicious craft beer!

Previous reviews are constant in describing Galaxy Hut as a "dive;" however, as one who has spent many a wonderful times in "dives," I would choose words like "homey," "comfortable," or "low key." In any case, this quaint litte spot - hey, "quaint" is another good word - is the antithesis of the usual DC area bar in that it lacks the obnoxious, self-important douchebag and the accompanying phonecow with her incessant, monosyllabic blathering. QH is a quiet place that attracts unpretentious beer lovers who seek a placw to have a pleasant chat, drink some decent beer and relaaaaxxx. Live music at night.

Yes, it is small: the size of an apartment living room with a few worn tables and a small L-shape bar that seats about 12 on bolted bar stools. (ala Brickskellar.) The pale blue walls are adorned with the work of local artists. They have about 20 taps with beer priced by the size of the glass you order: ie, pint or goblet. The server was excellent and attentive. The food is your basic pub grub and must be ordered at the bar benaeth the sign. Somewaht like a British pub. That said, they offer tater tots, a comfort food that everyone loves - much like puppies.

I agree this place is a hole in the wall, but it's definitely worth the change of pace for Arlington.

Once you walk through the door you realize this place is centered around the beer and that is it. Yes there is food and live music occasionally but the real purpose everyone is there is for a different brew off the beaten path. The crowd is a bit younger than you normally find in the area and the place does have some character. The service is fair and as long as you know what you want and it's not a weekend or peak time there isnt a problem getting served.

The taplist has a good mix of styles and always has a few unique drafts. The other nice change of pace is that the local DMV breweries are well represented.

Overall this is one of my favorite places for happy hours and enjoying a beer on a day off.

Galaxy hut has a rotating selection of great drafts and bottles that makes it a "must stop" location in the Clarendon/Courthouse neighborhood of NoVA. Since beer is the main driving force of such a place, and the staff and owners adhere to that, I love this place.

Only gripes are the ordering process, which is simply a line with one register, and the lack of seating. There is an alleyway with a few extra seats but it usually smokey and a bit too claustrophobic for me. There used to be a "larger" (used relatively) space for seating out back, but that seems to have been closed off recently.

All in all, a great place to stop for some great craft beer.

This is a neat pub near my place in Arlington, VA. Getting a seat at the bar can be difficult here, it's quite small, and dark inside, felt more like a underground prohibition era den. Good selection of brews, regularly changing, the bottle stuff is pretty standard with a few gems, all nitro keg on tap, but a reasonably good unusual selection. Staff were good, but not engaging. You have to buy your beer up front from the bar as they don't have servers there. Meaning it was as if you were in a fast food joint, you'd have to wait in line to buy beer from the bartender with cashier machine up front. Prices are ok, and a good Arlington bar for the type. Tater tots seem to be the highlight here along with the pac man machine from the 80s.
