I am a huge fan of this style so there was no doubt in my mind when the server asked which beer I'd like. It did not disappoint. Rich and tasty this is a great tribute to the style.

Poured a nearly opaque brown with some ruby highlights on a warm Saturday afternoon. Sparse tan head that left abundant lacing all the way down. A hot sunny day is not usually the type of day for a rich malty brew like this but it worked for me.

Aroma was toffee and molasses and hints of peat smoke and floral hops.

Taste was rich and malty. Sweet caramel, some cocoa, brown brean and a whiff of hops. Nicely balanced by a short dry finish.

Mouthfeel was full and substantial. Lightly carbonated and creamy on the palate.

Very drinkable.

A - Deep brown-amber, with a silky top from the cask. Looks like a rich brew.

S - Musky barnyard funk, sheep and barn wood smells. Smelly cheese and funky socks (in a good way of course). A big wiff of malt sweetness covering the nose as well.

T - SO funky, this tastes just as funky as it smells, maybe more. Musky, damp grains and barn funk, with a dose of sweet dry malts. Smelly cheese twang, like sharp brie. Soft spiced alcohol finish. The flavors kicked harder as the beer warmed.

M - Viscous, sticky and drying in the end. Faint light carbonation.

O - A wonderful funky surprise, pungent and bold. I love it. Try this if you love potent funk beers and lots of bold flavor.

The beer poured a rich caamel with a good tan head. The aroma was of malt. The taste is rich and malty with hints of chocolate and coffee in the back. The wwl is heavy and dry. A great example of the style hoppes enough to avoid syrupieness but not enough to kill the malt.

A - pretty sure the was on the hand pump, they call it "real ale" and unfiltered. Nice frothy 2 finger head on top of a rich caramel ruby body.

S - caramel is about all I can identify while eating buffalo rolls at resturaunt.

T - malt forward, less caramel than it's big brother barleywine but still there. Nutty, bready, all around malty with a smokey woody finish.

M/d - full body, unsure on abv. A little tough to drink, wish I had like an 8 ounce snifter instead.

On hand pump at the brewpub.
Served as a deep brownish red beer with moderate off-white head.
Smell is a nice mixture of toffee, caramel and molasses.
Taste is on the sweet side with more notes of caramel and molasses.
Left a nice full creamy mouthfeel.
This was on OK beer but not one I overly enjoyed. It was a warm afternoon when I drank it and this probably would have been better for a cool autumn evening.

Triumph- New Hope- Scotch Ale

On hand pull

Appearance- Reddish brown with a thick lacing head.
Smell- Musty hops and molasses malt.
Taste- Warm with huge accents of moss and musk. Slight molasses malt peeks through.
Mouthfeel- Again warm with alcohol present. Slighty funky in the aftertast.

Overall- A warm musky peat moss ale that just isn't my style. Drinkable but I just don't like this style!
