Pours a dark nutmeg brown. Crystal clear. Thin tan head dissipates steadily leaving a thin ring of tan foam along the outside of the beer. Some sticky lacing is left along the glass

Aroma is quite nutty and malty with some grainy notes. Very earthy aroma overall.

Taste has notes of grain, malts, earthy nuts, and a light hoppy bitterness on the finish.

Feel is light and drinkable with mild carbonation.

Overall a very nice Altbier - does an admirable job sticking to the traditional German style and in doing so is very well done.

Disclaimer: The date on this beer is a 18 months ago so it is presumably a year and a half old...

Appearance: Pours a clear, dark brownish amber color like a dark whiskey. A small white head. SRM of 19. (3.75)

Aroma: Aromas of flower & molasses. Relatively light and clean on the nose surprisingly. (3.50)

Flavor: Flavors of flower, wet tire, molassess, fresh oil. Finishes relatively cleaner than I expected. Sort of reminds me of a tire store. (3.50)

Feel: Lighter bodied. Flat. Clean on the palate. I suspect due to the age of the beer. (3.25)

Overall: Due to the age of this beer my review is probably biased because the beer was about a year and a half old. Wet tire and molasses. The flower quality was quickly lost which I suspect would normally be stronger. It was flat tire and molasses. Would like to try it fresh sometime. (Final Rating: 3.39)

Had on tap. Clear copper body, lots of tan lacing. Smell brings on the caramel, nuts, yeast, malts, and herbal hops. Taste is precise in the balance, leading to classical flavoring with high drinkability. Has some amber ale influence in the aftertaste too. Well made and well balanced altbier.

This beer pours a deep ruby red color. The head is firm, and recedes slowly leaving good lacing. The aroma is malty with nougat, dark caramel, and a very faint fruitiness (cherries, blackberries). The taste is much the same, but without the fruit aspects. The mouthfeel is medium-full bodied with a silky texture, and moderate carbonation. Overall, this is a really well made beer. I can see this becoming a regular in my malty mood rotation.

reddish-brown in color. auburn? looks real nice. wasn't a ton of head, and little lacing, but i like the color.

toasty. a bit of leather perhaps.

smells carries through to the taste, as to be expected. i agree on the mineral notes noted below. malty but not sweet.

mouth is dry. clean.

first one of these i cracked reminded me of otter creek's copper ale. pretty spot on, actually. this last one is much warmer and i'm not thinking of that comparison as much now, but it's been like 10 years since i've had an otter creek copper ale so i'm totally relying on sensory memory here but i'll be damned if they don't evoke the same kind of reaction. pretty good company to be in if you ask me.

Poured a clear, fairly dark amber color with a small, tan head of foam. It smelled of sweet malt, caramel and floral notes. Sweet caramel and toffee flavors. Mild bitterness.

Clear, dark copper color with a dense head that left a lot of lacing down the glass. Aroma of dark bread, caramel, and grain. Nice dark malt flavor of bread, earthy and herbal hops, tree nuts, and caramel. Unfortunately there is a slight astringent flavor in the finish that hurts the score. Solid body for a lighter beer and paired with ideal carbonation leaves an excellent impression.

Khaki head. Copper bronze color. Lots of lace.

Nutty, caramel, toasted malts, and hints of chocolate.

Lager feel to it. Smooth and easy drinking. Light bodied. A nice alt beer.

Really nice Altbier. Great balance, strong German pils and Munich flavors. Extremely drinkable. Well done.

L: brilliant auburn in the glass crowned by 1/2" of cream colored foam with fair to good retention

S: aromas blend rich malts, grains, nuts, a trace of roast, a vague hint of coffee, faint dark sugars, and noble hop spice

T: Layers of rich malt weave together with mild yeast driven fruit flavors finishing with a moderate earthy and tea-like bitterness.

F: very creamy medium bodied beer has carbonation a notch below medium

O: fresh, refreshing, eminently drinkable and a perfect beer for nursing in the Fernweh Taproom while watching the woods and talking with friends

From a pint can. Aroma is malty and earthy. Some dark fruit. Clear deep amber with off-white head that disappears into a thin cap fairly quickly. Lacing as you tip the glass to drink. Thick and smooth feel. Malty and earthy taste, mild initially with a bitter finish. Some mineral in the taste was well, carrying on into the finish. Very nice looking beer. No flaws, as such, but it seems to be to be a bit too "puckering" from the hops, mineral, and earthiness to be truely enjoyable. I'll be passing this one by in the future.

This beer pours a deep copper with a decent head. The aroma features rich swet bread malts with a hint caramel, toffee, slightly pine, resinous hops, woodsy notes, burnt sugar, and mint. The flavor is pleasantly rich, but not too much so, with rich sweet roll malts, caramel, and a hint of roasty, toasted bread malts. The hops are not hidden here, with resinous, minty, and woodsy flavors all coming though as accents. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with powerful, sudsy carbonation. Overall this is a really tasty beer - driven by flavorful malts, accented with beautifully subtle hops, and eminently drinkable.
