This Coconut Porter’s bright, pleasing malt character is cradled in a soft, cushiony and smooth mouthfeel that easily glides down the throat with each swallow. Lip-smacking hints of coffee and chocolate readily move across the tongue as the dark body gives up its aromatic coconut roastedness. Northern Brewer and Willamette hops provide a mellow treat. Most fully enjoyed slowly from a City Lights goblet glass which allows the emerging and progressive nutty aspect of this coconut porter to take center-stage at mid-palate. Well-rounded and bursting with flavor, the flavor integrity is maintained until the very end as the exceptional smoothness finishes with a malty expresso finish. The hazy black body gives picturesque support to the ivory-colored foam. At about 5.3 ABV, City Lights Coconut Porter is a fine sessionable libation for any time of the year!
OCCASION
An untimely request by taproom patrons for a heavy porter right before the hot summer birthed this wonderful beer. In an effort to “summarize” a porter, we made this lighter in body and roast, and with a whole lot of coconut and vanilla beans. An easy dark drinking beer for the summertime.
FOOD PAIRING
Smoked and barbecue meats, blackened fish, chocolate cake and coconut macaroons. Candied bacon.

I had it on tap. Not much foam. Definite coconut flavors on the first sip. Just the right amount of sweetness. Not bitter. A little thin but a good dessert beer.

12oz can. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It left minimal lacing. Wow! the aroma was coconut - like a bottle of suntan lotion. Thankfully, the coconut taste was muted compared to the small. Good chocolate backbone.

Coconut porter
A: Pours a light brown, but looks black in the glass. 2 fingers of light brown khaki colored foam
S: smells great! A light roasted coffee notes with a subtle coconut sweetness. I cant quite put my finger on the other scent… maybe like a chocolate chip cookie/ brownie/ fudge or maybe cookies and cream sundae. Other notes consist of hazelnut and vanilla.
T: Though it smells sweet, it doesn’t taste nearly as sweet. Good coffee and roasty malt flavors. Hazelnut and coconut are pleasant and there is a prevailing chocolaty coconut sweetness underneath it all.
F: Medium carbonation and body, pleasant
Overall: I remember having this beer once before and I remember being underwhelmed, but this is fantastic. Great coffee notes, a lot of great flavors to balance each other out, and they all taste natural, no artificial flavors like some dark beers utilize. Definitely would buy again at $10 for a 6-pack

A very smooth sipper. Creamy mouthfeel with tastey notes of cocoa, coffee, and a little coconut.

Toasted coconut flake cookies is what immediately came to mind when I opened the can and poured the almost opaque dark brown into the glass. Two fingers of toasted foam developed and slowly dissipated. Coconut cookies are still what I think of after the first sip. A little bitterness at the end doesn't really register against the coconut. Very smooth from tongue to throat. It feels stronger than ABV 5.3%, not that I mind on a Friday night. I'll definitely be looking this one up again.

Poured from a can. Very dark, pretty much black with a tan head. The smell is wonderful. A lot of coconut. Sweet. Taste is the same. This is a very good beer. Wish I had 2.

Coconut Porter pours black, with a large, tan lacing head. Aroma is sweet, filled with a nice coconut note. Flavor is sweet and dry, a mellow toasted coconut flavor, with a hint of bitterness. Good body and feel. Overall, very flavorful, with great sweetness and bitterness.

Taste: sweet, toasted coconut, artificial vanilla a bit off, airy. Big coconut, nutty, slight stale coffee nose. Black/brown hue, mostly opaque, lacked head and lace. Medium light body. Maybe this aged to long in the store but if was flat and artificial in the flavoring. 35 IBUs

12 ounce can - $2.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

BORN 04/01/20.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown, near black body with an inch of light, tanned foam.

Smell: Toasty, nutty coconut adorned to a fudge-coated vanilla Voortman wafer.

Taste: Flavors are prominent though not aggressive. A pleasing mix of chocolate, vanilla, toasted coconut and cookie. Modestly hopped, with the bitterness adhering to a little bit of lightly smokey roast and sustaining through the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: A nice coconut component and an overall tasty beer.
