Pours dark brown with some clarity. Head dissipates immediately. Unpleasant aroma of heavily burned bread. The mouthfeel is reminiscent of San Pellegrino—watery and over-carbonated. Slight sourness, too. Another infection, perhaps? If they don't get their game together, they'll be the next Chocolate City Brewing Company.

On tap at brewpub:
Pours thin with an obvious clarity to its dark brown body. Thin rim of bubbles don't provide any lacing.

Nose is a nice dark toast and chocolate, with coffee brewing in the next room. Decent stength to a nose that reminds me this isn't going to be like the modern day porters that go more roasted.

Yes, this beer has a thin, maybe watery feel, but it packs a nice amount of flavor in each sip. Little more roasty than the nose suggests, but there is a dark nut and near-burnt toast note as well. Chocolate more than coffee in the flavor, there's also a lingering char bitterness.

I really appreciated this beer. I liked the slight lean towards brown ale that came through with a little toast note. Best I had of the pre-prohibition series.
