Porter by standard description is a rich, sweet ale that is not easily seen through. Porter by Legend standards exceeds these parameters slightly. Legend Chocolate Porter takes on a new level of Porterness. We were generous in our additions of dark malts for this brew. These include Caramel and Chocolate malts, as well as our standard “Porter malts”. The addition of natural cocoa extract at filtering time gives this brew a strong choco-nose and a deep lingering Wonkaesque finish. German Tettenang hops are used for a clean balancing bitterness. Expect a dark black beer with a rich and sweet aromatic presence. The flavor is of dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, and more dark chocolate.

A: Nice dark pour with a great, creamy head... leaves behind plenty of stringy lace.
S: Soft malts, bakers chocolate. Not a whole lot of complexity, but decent.
T: The chocolate flavour is there, but it seems a little economy... like picking up the semi-sweet baking chocolate from the grocery store. Not offensive, but not fine or delicate by any means.
M + D: I would almost expect a little creamier, but got a bit overcarbonated and light. Has potential, and some balance is there, but not something I could see myself actively seeking out.

There is no date code but the bottle is marked with 32114, if it's a julian date it could mean 17 NOV 2014.
Appearance: Black body with a short lived light tan head. Some lacing.
Aroma: Slight acrid and metallic scent mixed with a faint roasted coffee aroma. I'm not picking up any chocolate aroma.
Taste: There is a nice mellow roasted flavor to this beer. I should mention that I don't taste any chocolate at all. There isn't anything else to say about it.
Mouthfeel: It feels a little over-carbonated. The mouth is awash with bubbles at every sip. This also gives the beer a little more bite than it needs.
Overall: I was highly disappointed with this beer. There was no chocolate flavor or aroma in this beer at all. As a porter I would still consider it below average given the lack of flavor and the mouthfeel. I wouldn't recommend this beer based off of this experience.
