Legend Brewing Co.

Style: English Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our most popular beer, Legend's is a full bodied version of a British Brown Ale. Expect a rich, malt-forward brew with a beautiful mahogany tone. Generous amounts of specialty malts bring flavors of sweet caramel, toasted nuts, coffee, and molasses, all perfectly balanced by a steady but cautious hop dryness. Fruity undertones provided by our house yeast strain bring the final flavor element to round out this world class ale.

Had my first one of these 15 years ago, and it's still one of my "go to" beers. Love it in the bottle and adore it on tap.

This is the most drinkable beer I would advocate to anyone. Be they beer snob or simple-drunk, everyone loves a Brown ale from legend.

It also has to added bonus of being readily available in many places and extremely affordable.

Give this beer a chance and it'll be something you regularly stock from here on out.

A - Dark brown with hints of red. Pours a big head that quickly settles with some lace.

S - Nuts, roasted malts, a hint of sweetness like brown sugar or caramel

T - The caramel comes through the roasted malts nicely. This is a sweet brown, but the sweetness is not overpowering. Hints of nuts during the drink, and a little twist of hops in the finish.

M - Has enough carbonation, and is not too thin.

D - If you have a hankering for a brown ale that brings some sugar to the party, this is a highly drinkable beer. The aroma and taste make it a pleasant experience.

Pours a nice a deep brown with white head which resolves rather quickly. Smells pleasantly of toasted malts, bready. Malt forward tastes, well balanced with taste of molasses, grains, and good clean finish. Medium mouthfeel, light carbonation.

Solid brown ale, very enjoyable and easily quaffable. Reliable and tasty.

update: another beer that the more I try - the more nuanced and enjoyable this beer becomes. A truly stellar American Brown Ale and one that I keep returning to - a great session beer - tasty and clean finish - think I'll have another. . .

This beer holds a special place in my heart as one of my first true "local" craft loves. 10+ years ago before the boom started in earnest in VA, Legend was one of the true leaders and this was/is their best brew.

Everything you want from a brown ale here - color is on point, head forms fast and recedes but very nice. Lots of caramel flavor and earth tones come through in the flavor. Finish is bitter but not overly so. It's a clean beer and one I still enjoy very much, especially in the fall.

Brown in Color, nutty rich aroma with a good half inch of head. Good carbonation and nice lacing on the glass all the way down. The nutty aroma carries over to the flavor. Robust flavor you'd expect from a brown ale, but finishes mild. Just shy of bitter but not sweet, very well balanced. I had it on the recommendation a bartender, on tap, a while back and had to look for at my local Total Wine. Great beer! I took a six pack to a friend's and they where a hit even with the MGD die hards.

Presentation: 1 pt 6 oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Amber in color, beer poured with a generous head that retained at first, then gradually faded into a lace.

Aroma: Rather malty.

Taste: Sweet; also a little nutty. A hint of caramel malt perhaps. I never did detect any hops in the taste, but here I think that's a good thing.

Overall: This is an excellent beer.

Large mug off the tap,
Aroma- Has a strong malts aroma and maybe a slight coffee aroma at the edges.
Appearance- This beer is a dark brown color with red highlights when viewed through the bars neon!! Legend Brown Ale has a white head
Taste- Has a really good malt flavor that I didn't expect. It went down really smooth.
Palate- This is a medium bodied beer with a low carbonation with an oily feel.
Overall- A really good beer from Legend. I will definitely drink this again.

Poured from 22oz bottle into 330ml Corsendonk tulip glass.

Appearance: Very dark (almost black) brownish/amber color with a huge tanned head that dissipates slowly and leaves behind both large and small spots of lace.

Smell: White grapes and caramel malt with a slight biscuity character and just a touch of grassiness.

Taste:Begins with caramel flavor that stays throughout with a sweet and sour grape-like taste in the background toward the end. Also has hints of biscuit and a touch of citrus in the finish. Superbly balanced.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with sharp carbonation and a mildly dry finish.

Overall: A very good beer for its style and an excellent session brew. I was pleasantly surprised.
