Style: English Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our most popular beer, Legend's is a full bodied version of a British Brown Ale. Expect a rich, malt-forward brew with a beautiful mahogany tone. Generous amounts of specialty malts bring flavors of sweet caramel, toasted nuts, coffee, and molasses, all perfectly balanced by a steady but cautious hop dryness. Fruity undertones provided by our house yeast strain bring the final flavor element to round out this world class ale.

Legend Brewing Co. "Brown Ale"
on tap @ Murphys Grand Irish Pub, Virginia Beach,VA
$5 / pint

Notes: Clear mahogany brown beneath a creamy head of off-white. Excellent head retention and lacing. Clean, fresh aroma of lightly chocolatey and golden caramelish malt. The flavor follows with little variation but greater depth; the addition is its mildly leafy and grassy hops. Mildly bitter but still mostly dry in the finish. Short lingering notes of light milk chocolate, medium caramel, and floral/leafy hops in the finish.

Currently my 6th favorite beer is this English Brown Ale brewed in Richmond, VA. I've only had it in a bottle, so I look forward to trying it on Draft;)

No label information. Legend Brown Ale is brewed in the style of an English Brown Ale, available in 12 oz. bottled 6 packs and on year-round draft.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a tulip glass.

(Appearance) Pours a foamy frothed head of a buttery tan color over a medium brown body with garnet highlights, varied fleck sediment in tow and moderate carbonation. Retention is very good and lacing is light and spotty. 4.25

(Smell) Notes of light toasted bread malts, toffee and a lightly fruit hop profile with a high cleanliness. Potency is moderate. 3.75

(Taste) Much like the aroma, with a nicely balanced bread malt body and a touch of earthy toffee character, gentle caramel with a mild sweetness and clean body. Hop notes on the finish with a light fruit hop flavor and mild bitterness. Finishes clean and nicely balanced. 3.75

(Mouthfeel) Texture is clean, light, silky, moderately dry. Carbonation is moderate, generating a mild frothiness and a moderately crisp finish. Body is medium for the style, short of medium overall. Balance is nearly even sweet to specialty malt and hop bitterness. Alcohol presence is light and there are no off characters. 3.25

(Overall) A nicely balanced and highly drinkable brown ale with a reasonable amount of malt flavor, retaining a traditional approach to the brown ale. It's not a particularly groundbreaking style of beer, but one I would recommend sampling from this brewery as it's built quite well. 3.75

Draft at Yard House-Springfield. Normal looking pour, faint aroma, then goes horribly wrong in the taste. Metallic bitterness, cola sweetness. Not sure what this is supposed to be, but not very good. No drains nearby....

Light aroma. Really very well balanced and drinkable. More malt than hops, but nothing is overwhelming. There are also some caramel and molasses flavors. Light carbonation but moderately full mouth-feel.
