I went to Legend Brewing on my recent visit to Virginia. It was a wonderful, sunny Saturday afternoon and I went to Legend for lunch. I am not very familiar with Richmond, so I cannot judge the location fully. Seems to be off the beaten path, across the river from downtown. They have a nice deck with views of downtown; too bad it was cold when I was there.

Since I was there around 3-4 pm, there were just a few people. The vibe was very pleasant as everybody enjoyed themselves. The atmosphere was very relaxed. The place is quite big, so I am guessing even when it's full the atmosphere does not suffer.

Decor is simple - kind of like an oversized pub: simple wood tables and chairs, large bar area. I believe they have a pool table in the corner. As I mentioned before, there is a fairly large deck overlooking downtown Richmond.

I sat at the bar and ordered their sampler. The sampler consisted of their six regular beers, but the bartender was very nice and poured me a small sample of Chocolate Porter and Imperial Pilsner, Legend's seasonal brews. The beers were good. Nothing blew my mind, but I did enjoy all of them. Imperial Pilsner was great. I picked up a bottle of Legend in Once Upon A Vine on my way out of Richmond (this is important because I only support brewpubs and breweries I have positive impression of).

The bartender was very nice and helpful (and in general, the staff seemed very friendly and helpful). He never let me go idle, but he also didn't bug me too much. Plus, I got a taste of Legend's seasonals which were not part of my order (and I did not ask for them explicitly). How can anyone complain about this?

I only had a bowl of chili for lunch, which was good. That's about all I can say about food from my limited experience.

Legend has a mug club. A place always scores extra points from me for having some kind of a club for their regulars. Being a regular in a bar is like coming home, so it is only fitting that there's something your own that patiently waits for you there.

Summary: Nice, relaxed, easy-going place with solid beers and friendly staff. Definitely highly recommended if you are in the area.

Right over the bridge from downtown, high on a bluff, with the view of the James obscured by trees. No TVs but it screams "sports bar". Kind of a 70's look to the whole place. Variety of seating options, including a patio. 18 taps and a cooler with to-go product, including singles. Good service, although more a restaurant style service

A fantastic brewery. Wasn't too busy for a Saturday, and despite limited service capacity(as notified at the door) It was still awesome. Our server Andy was very accommodating. Filled up on some amazing apps (pretzel, chili nachos, and fried brussels) and we were too full to get entrees, but I loved cheesecake for dessert a la mode. All consistently great beers to classic styles. Didn't get anything too extreme on tap this time. We'll be back.

Got to visit one of the oldest breweries in Richmond! Grabbed a solid hazy offering on draft, and while in town for the weekend was pleasantly impressed with the quality of both their flagship brown ale and lager. The food was great; poutine was particularly excellent. And above all else, the view from the patio was an incredible vantage point of the entire city of Richmond. Worth the trip for that alone!

The brown ale is classic. Everyone in my family LOVES this ale. Enjoying it at the source is even better!

Caught the place on a very busy lunch hour. Seated fairly quickly but long wait for the waitress to arrive for drink orders. Food was okay but nothing remarkable.

The roasted Brussel sprouts are superb. I order mine with out bacon: as that fat isn't really needed. Of course the beer selection is Legend but that's expected. I really enjoyed their Triple very light not alcoholic which in my experience is unusual.

Legend has a class setup right on the James River which makes lounging nice. The beers are decent and I have always enjoyed the Brown Ale. The service was marginal the last few times I visited for food and beer.

It's hard to find a better patio in Richmond to enjoy a nice day than that of Legend's. The beer is still okay, though I feel like they haven't kept up with current beer trends as well as some other more established breweries.

If the weather isn't so great, sitting inside is just fine. Service is friendly and helpful. Vibe is laid back and casual.

The beer is okay - some staples like Brown Ale are there and generally great. But some other offerings tend to disappoint a bit (cask selections can be really interesting though).

Food is on par with typical bar food - sandwiches and the like. It is a great place to meet up for a beer with lunch or after work. I don't live in Richmond but if I was ever passing through would try to meet friends there for a beer with a breeze and a view.

Da Boss and I stopped in after a half day d at the Civil War Confederacy Museum (I am a Michigan Yankee residing in Phoenix).

Vibe was good, tons of outdoor seating to go with a spacious indoor brewpub. Seating was available in the front and on a huge back deck. Indoors the brewpub was spacious and inviting.

Quality of the beer was pretty good. Da Boss enjoyed the Winter seasonal and I tried the Brown and Tripel.

Service was solid on a fairly quiet mid-afternoon.

Selection was good ranging from the brewery core beers to several seasonals, imperial versions of core styles, and bourbon barreled versions of their brew.

Food was very good. We both had burgers that were very good and the sides were OK.

Overall a nice brewpub that I would visit again.

I was just visiting from the north and stopped in and found a place that I know the locals are proud of. Great vibe, great food, great beer, and great people.
