This refreshing pale south German style wheat ale is fermented to naturally draw out a hint of banana and clove. It's unfiltered and lightly hopped to achieve its smooth, pleasant flavor and cloudy appearance. Enjoy!

I love Hefeweizens and I always rate them high, this is no surprise here which are always flavorful. No matter where they come from and no matter the way they taste, they are always some of the best beers to drink!

Had this on tap at a local burger joint. I had a six pack of Hacker Pschor Weisse at home, so Imthought it would be good to try another beer of the style. This is very close to the HS in every way, except that the head was not quite as creamy or thick. Another good example of the style, and worth it if you run across it on tap.

Poured a cloudy golden with a slightly sweet aroma (no hops presence). The taste followed with the addition of spice. This is a pretty good beer and is a good example of the style.

12 ounce bottle into weizen glass, bottled on 8/10/2015. Pours hazy bright golden yellow color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big banana, bubblegum, clove, lemon, pear, apple, wheat, cracker, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big banana, bubblegum, clove, lemon, pear, apple, wheat, cracker, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal bitterness and light-moderate yeast spiciness after the finish; with lingering notes of banana, bubblegum, clove, wheat, cracker, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Very nice robustness, complexity, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness after the finish as well. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice hefeweizen style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and light earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Served from the stainless steel growler in a Purdue Alumni shaker pint glass.

Thanks to Mrs. VDubb's familial relations and whatnot, we were able to secure a sweet growler from that mitten-shaped state. Perfect for enjoyment during a brew session, we thought. This stuff pours a hazy sunrise (yes, a sunrise made manifest in liquid form in a glass) topped by a short finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises bright orange zest, mild clove, light black pepper, and a hint of cardamom. The taste brings in more of the same, the clove blending nicely with some cracked wheat. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, a solid, journeyman-style hef, nothing that's gonna blow doors off the style, but it's more than tasty enough for repeated enjoyment.

A: Pale, hazy straw with a 1” very finely bubbled white foam collar that quickly dissipates.
S: clove and banana
T: Starts with a banana sweetness, clove and traces of smoke. Not much hop presence
F: Medium body and medium high carbonation.
O: Pleasant and safe – like going to the prom with your sister.

Appearance - 4/5
Slightly hazy golden yellow-orange. About a finger of pure white head. Visible carbonation is less than average.

Smell - 3.5/5
Banana, clove, breadiness. Tiny tiny spiciness. Smells like a typical hefeweizen.

Taste - 2.75/5
Upon my first sip, my first thought was that the taste is not as good as the smell. The banana and clove flavor are not as present, and the beer has more of a citrus quality. The breadiness is not very detectable either. The beer is actually fairly flavorless and watery.

Mouthfeel - 3/5
Medium bodied, fairly watery. Crisp, with a light amount of carbonation.

Overall - 3/5
This beer was not that great. It wasn't terrible, just would not want to have again.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #73 (Feb 2013):

Was hoping this beer would have popped a bit more, while it has most the trademark characters of the Hefeweizen nothing really meshes together. In turn the disjointedness takes away a little from the drinkability. Worth a try? Sure. Different from the rest, no doubt.

STYLE: Hefeweizen
ABV: 5.2%
AVAILABILITY: Year-round

LOOK: Hazed dirty straw color, sufficient lacing

SMELL: Overripe bananas, nutty, some spice, lemon pith, yeast, mineral

TASTE: Bready, slick, mild crispness, medium bodied, lemon taffy, nutty, chalky, grainy, dried grass, very modest hopping, pithy, slightly spicy, ripe fruit, light alcohol warmth, drying finish
