The Frankenmuth Brewery was re-opened under new ownership July 1, 2009 after being closed since Nov. 2006. The Brewery has both a class C resort license as well as a micro brewery license. We have begun distribution to the state of Michigan in kegs as well as serving our patrons in one the most popular destination cities in Michigan, Frankenmuth. We expect to be bottling in small quantities by March 2010.

Please note that all comments and ratings posted on here pre-2009 have nothing to do with the new ownership.

Great brewery in one of Michigan’s premier resort towns. Lots of German style brews on tap. Great service and good food. Lots of options and a great stop if you are visiting Frankenmuth.

It was packed tonight, like most of Frankenmuth is this time of year. Plenty of to go beers, including all their staples and their crafted Root Beer. Food is mostly pub fare. We had glazed Brussel sprouts and boneless wings with a prime rib sandwich for her and a smoked Turkey breast sandwich for me. It all was excellent (7/10). The beers sampled were a farmhouse ale(biere de garde), a tripel, a dark bock, and west coast IPA. All were excellent.(8/10). Very family friendly place with kids running amok which could be good or bad depending what side of the fence you’re on. I have kids but don’t take them to the breweries so for me it was annoying. Very loud, very busy, some dirty tables and rushed servers. All to be expected. Overall, very decent brewery. Good food, good beer. Would love to visit on a Tuesday afternoon or so for a more complete experience.

I have been here 3 times. Always a wait for subpar beer and food. They do have a good selection of beer and the food isn't bad. My suggestion is to head down the street to Zehenders Chicken place and get their home brewed Red ale or Bock. I would be more than willing to wait 30min for those two!

Old school brew pub. Odor of brewers yeast greets you at the door starting the excitement of a new adventure. The food looks amazing and tastes even better. Add in the mixture of old and tunes completes the package.
A must stop here when in Frankenmuth!

Decided to have dinner here after a day in town with the wife and kids. Saturday evening, so there was a wait of about a half hour. Took the kids to look at the tanks in the meantime, and a waitress offered to get us drinks and an appetizer while waiting for a table. Our waiter was just as friendly. Service was quick, food was good, beer was solid.
The building is great looking inside and out, and if it wasn't so rainy, we could have sat on the patio overlooking the Cass River.
Well worth the stop while in Frankenmuth.

Beer sold by bottle, case, cans, growler. 15 varieties on tap on this visit.

Waitress messed up the flight so what good is it? Slow service. Bad food. All this adds up to a bad beer experience. Won't return and won't try their beers again

Me and the wife spent the weekend in Frankenmuth. I had to visit the brewery and buy a Growler of thier Brown Hound. Excellent beer by the way. Liked this brewery very much, helpful staff and good selection of brew. The atmosphere was a little heavy, very busy that night. But the sights and design of the place is nice, fermenting tanks all around you brings the experience to the top. Overall definitely will be one of my stops when in town.

Every time I visit Frankenmuth Brewery, I hope that my experience is better than the last. My visit today was more of the same. The brewery is one of the most beautiful that you will ever be in. Almost everything is made out of brick, hardwoods, and cast iron. The layout is quite nice as well. The outdoor seating overlooking the Cass River is one of the best views/seatings I have ever had at a brewpub.

Unfortunately, the place is quite dirty. The beautiful stainless steel tanks behind the bar have not been cleaned in well over a year. They look disgusting. They should be a showpiece at the bar and they look like crap. There are lots of other places through the brewpub that are filthy as well. This is even more troublesome in that the town of Frankenmuth has maintained a squeaky clean image for years. It's too bad Frankenmuth Brewery does not follow suit. One other thing that hurts the vibe rating that I gave is that there are always numerous kids there. Don't get me wrong - I like kids. But they do increase the noise levels.

The quality of the beer has always been very ordinary but hopefully that will change with their new brewmaster, Steve Buszka. Steve was the brewmaster at Bell's when it was still called Kalamazoo Brewing Company so he has many years of great experience to draw upon. Tonight, I had a dopplebock that tastes quite similar to Bell's Consecrator Dopplebock; a wheated lager called Sunshine Ale that tastes quite similar to Oberon and the 2015 Imperial Stout that tastes quite similar to Expedition Stout (although it didn't have the red fruity notes that Expedition Stout has). If Frankenmuth Brewery's beers continue to improve in quality as these three beers that I had tonight did, they will be on to something.

The service was quite good tonight. Our waitress was very attentive and took our food and beer orders in a timely manner. Our food was delivered at a reasonable time. There was a 15 minute wait to be seated which I have never had before. But they were quite busy.

Beer selection was maybe slightly better than in the past. Frankenmuth Brewery always sold their six flagship beers (pilsner, IPA, hefe, irish red, blonde and dunkel) along with three or four seasonals (although one or two of the seasonals were usually out of season). They had the six flagship beers tonight but the other offerings were a Belgian IPA, a Belgian abbey, 2015 Imperial Stout, a wheated lager, a dopplebock and a helles lager. In my humble opinion, all of the six flagship beer recipes could be improved - they are OK for their style but none of them makes me say wow.

Finally, the food. There just always has to be a problem with the food. I just don't understand it. My wife and I shared a chicken nacho appetizer and I got a fish and chips entrée. The nachos were delivered in an acceptable 10 to 15 minutes. They were forgettable. There was no salsa on the nachos or on the side. The only sauce included was a minimal amount of a southwest sour cream applied lightly to the nachos. The portion was sufficient for the price but most of the nachos buried underneath had nothing on them.

10 minutes later, I received my fish and chips. I should have returned them immediately. The quality was probably OK but they were served lukewarm. Which meant they were cold two or three minutes after being served. My wife and I both guessed that the fish and chips were probably done at the same time as the nachos. Again, this is extra disappointing because the town of Frankenmuth has been very successful for years for serving great food to the thousands of people who visit each year.

I generally visit Frankenmuth Brewery once per year. Like I stated at the beginning, I hope every time that my experience was better than the last but it just never seems to happen. I do hope that the addition of Steve Buszka as brewmaster will continue to have a positive effect on the quality of the beer served at Frankenmuth Brewery.
