Beautifully carved out of Mosaic, Citra and Amarillo hops, the New England styled IPA of 3rd Planet Brewing isn't relegated to the far reaches from the tastebuds. It's as friendly, aromatic, radiant and juicy as the sunny beaches of Florida rather than any side of the moon.

So when Dank Side of the Moon is poured it comes with a glowing translucent, nearly lemony vivacity and capped with a soapy white crown. Its racy scent is fruity with impressions of citrus and tropical varieties along with a soft herbal and pastry scent. But those sweet and bready characteristics are just getting started as a light dough, angel food cake and lychee sweetness graces the early palate.

And as the moderate maltiness begins to settle down, the hops spring to life with the brilliance of orange, peach, white grapefruit, lime and gooseberry; all seemingly of the tangier, more under ripened types of fruit. Yet trailing into a perfumy late palate of fruit peels, chive and gin-like botanicals, the bitterness shifts the balance to the hops in a convincingly but not assertive way.

Medium bodied and not as rounded or rich as most hazy IPA, this brand shows a drying finish and an overall malty-dry demeanor that allows for an uncharacteristic refreshment, crispness and cleanliness to give this juicy ale and highly palatable finish with a spicy, medium long aftertaste.
