Tampa Bay Brewing Co. "Reef Donkey"
on tap @ Sloppy Joe's, Treasure Island, FL
$5.25 for a 12 oz. "pint"

Clear deep gold body beneath a bright white head. Better than average head retention and lacing. Lots of pineapple and grapefruit! Quite tropical. Nicely balanced with a pleasant finish - more hop forward than might be expected. Worth trying.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 16 oz. can into a Westbrook pint glass.

A: Pours a nice, clear gold with just a touch of chill haze. Forms a half-finger of creamy white head with good visible carbonation. 4.5/5

S: Resin and citrus hops balanced by a light cracker malt presence. As it opens up, there is some tropical fruit, grapefruit, and floral hops as well. 17.5/20

T: Nice citrus up front, primarily grapefruit, with resinous hops and cracker malts. Hints of tropical fruit and floral hops. Hop bitterness in the hang with a bit of lingering malt sweetness. 37.5/45

M: Light-bodied, good carbonation sensation, and very low alcohol presence. 8.5/10

O: This is a quite tasty APA. I'm glad to have another tasty canned option around on shelves, and very glad to see TBBCo expanding their packaged options. Recommended. 17/20

This blew me away. For an American pale ale, I could drink this all day. I think it's incredible! It tastes a touch like aardwolf's nonchalant with a touch more malt, and a touch less bitterness. Well done!

16oz can, sample from the brewery.

A very well balanced APA, hop foward but with a lovely dry malt backbone. Citrus zest, fresh cut grass, grapefruit pith, green tea, and a mild tropical fruitiness within. The clarity and lacing that sticks to the glass make for a great looking brew. Drinkability is high, just a kiss of alcohol before the dryness sets in. I could easily see knocking back a few of these and wanting more.

On tap at The Oyster Bar in St Petes to go along some shrimp nachos this APA was a real nice surprise. Tons of hop aroma with lots of fresh sweet citrus. Taste is a great balance of said hops with a sturdy malt backbone with a caramel sweetness. Easy drinking yet not light at all. Equally good for slow enjoyment or thirst quenching. I learned what a reef donkey is too-so that's a plus

An overall forgettable pale ale. Had on draft at Sams in Hudson, Fl. Really nothing going on with this brew....

I had several on a rooftop bar in Clearwater.
Its got a nice funky hoppy smell, as you would expect from the name and packaging.
The taste was mostly sweet and fruity, I wish it had a bit more bite. It felt a little flat going down. There was a definite hoppiness, but the fruity flavors dominated.
It wasn't crisp and refreshing. Instead of adding a nice crisp bite, the hops seemed to contribute a heavier musky flavor.
Still, it tasted good and I drank several.

Another gift from @csp0380
A - Pours a clear golden color with 1 finger of head.
S - Aroma is great, somewhat grape fruity.
T - Very well balanced, citrus, hops and malt.
M - Mouth feel is light and crisp.
O - I am pretty tough on APA's as I drink a lot of IPA's and DIPA's and find too many APA's lacking flavor. Not this one! I really like this APA. Hope I can find more of this when I travel to FL in a couple months.

While vacationing in St. Pete Beach, I came across Rick's Reef Bar. The bartender said, "Reef Donkey was an APA, " As a fan of APA's in general, I felt obligated to try it. I am glad I did. This may be one of the best beers I have ever drank. It has a fantastic combination of citrus and hops, that makes it very easy on the palate. At 5.5% ABV, it is do able and refreshing for the Florida sun.

I tried this at the Bearded Pig near downtown Jacksonville. It poured a clear orangish with white head that left a spotty lace. The scent had citrus notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it was a decent beer.
