Appearance- Pours a golden orange with a one inch white head that lingers and leaves lots of lacing.

Smell- A bit subdued, I get hints of grapefruit and a bit of sourness. Not much aroma.

Taste- Great bitterness. Like the smell I get some notes of grapefruit and citrus with some malt backing. Again, a bit subdued but still tasty.

Mouthfeel- Good medium mouthfeel with good carbonation, no complaints.

Overall- Good beer, the flavor and aroma are a bit subdued but it is still a good IPA just not as strong as many other American IPA's. The balanced bitterness makes this very drinkable.

P- Poured from a 16 oz can, into a pint glass.Date on the can is 4/4/2017.

L- Frothy white colored head that stands 1 finger tall, with very good retention that leaves a sticky lacing on the glass.Deep amber / orange colored body with very good clarity.Light amount of carbonation, with a medium amount of sediment.

S- On the nose I get faint notes of tropical fruit zest and small amounts of pine. Not a huge nose on this one,but what is there mostly consists of tropical fruit.

T- The palate follows the nose with tropical fruit zest up front, floral and spice hops in the middle, and bitter pine hops on the back end.The taste isn't complex, but it's simple,to the point, and tastes very good.

F- The mouth feel is thin and sticky, with a moderate amount of oxidation on the tongue.Smooth finish with a slightly chalky texture after the sip.

O- This is a pretty good IPA compared to other southern breweries.I would drink it again, and recommend hop heads to give it a try, especially if you live in Florida and great IPA's are somewhat limited.

Poured from a hand labeled 16oz tallboy can, part of the brewerys first batch of 2000 cans. 7% abv and 80 ibus

This beer is really a treat, pretty color, nice smell, great head, lots of creamy lacing, and great taste. Its hard to believe I just poured this out of a big can.

The taste is highly american hops with a nice malt backbone. The malt isn't sweet or caramel, but more of warm bready thickness that comforts the hop assault.
Hops are a fresh fruity citrus hop without being too soapy. This drinks like nearly a double ipa, yet it holds back instead of going all the way. The taste is a little unique too, I'd say its fruiter then some, with more floral/citrus/freshness in the taste and less soapy/bitter like some IPAs. I'm about 3/4 done with this beer now, and my mouth is pretty coated in hoppy beer goodness. I'll say the mouthfeel is pretty epic!

Appearance – This poured a beautiful hazy orange in color and really lit up the room with its brilliant ccloring. The head was firm and pure white with good staying power just as it should be. Spot on in this category.

Smell – This took me back to Seattle with the PacNW aromatic hopping and wonderfully balanced mix of pine, grapefruit, and tangerine.

Taste – I was disappointed here as the sharp hopping lost its balance and the malts struggled to keep up. There was no sweetness to the finish which I’ve come to expect from superior examples of the style.

Mouthfeel – Though the style doesn’t demand medium-bodied the strong hopping does, and in this case it came up short.

Drinkability – This was OK but with such a strong appearance and the classic big IPA aroma I was a bit let down when I drank it.

This beer is supposed to be retired, but it's alive and well at the brewpub, regular draft and cask conditioned. It poured an amber color with a thick white head and quite impressive lacing. It had a sweet, outdoorsy scent, and a nice hoppy taste. I probably should drink more cask-conditioned beers, because they all taste too flat to me, and this was no exception. Still, it was a pretty good beer.

Copper colored with a fingernail of dishwasher white around the rim and covering most of the top. The aroma is of pine and citrus. I taste citrus and pine intermingled together. The mouth is lightly chalky and sticky.

Tampa has some pretty impressive IPA's with Jai Alai and Old Elephant Foot. OEP looks beautiful and has a very dense head and firm lacing. The nose promises a well balanced Hop/Malt balance with slight citrus notes. Flavor doesn't disappoint. Heavy bitterness and a firm, dank hop hit with just enough malt to provide some balance. An aftertaste that lingers lovingly. This is a very drinkable and affordable IPA that gets the basics right. Well done, Tampa Bay.

From a growler at the RBWG-2104.

Clear amber with a fine head and exceptional lacing
Aroma: hops and more hops, yet some complexity and some sweet malt base

Fruity hops plus some herbal notes. Mildly bitter but the bitterness lingers on and on.

O: a solid IPA.

Although listed in here as "retired" at time of writing, is the regular brew now available in the new premises from November 2006. Pours medium dark bronze, with fair tight head, which lasts well down the glass. Aroma is heavy, malty and slightly sweet, and the initial taste confirms this, but overall the beer is well hoppy and has a bitter but well balanced after taste. It may seem just a little overpowering at first, but after a few sips I really got into this and enjoyed it a lot. I certainly has the 'Tampa Bay Brewing' family characteristics. It has only little natural carbonation, and this makes it easy to drink and thirst quenching. It seems just the same as it did when brewed at the old premises. I like this beer, and would always have at least one of these when in Ybor City, along with the other beers available on tap at Tampa Bay Brewing.

enjoyed on-tap at the brewpub. One of their beter ones, with Northern Brewer, Centennial and Cascade. The odour is c-hop but also odd. Cloudy yellow and lacey. Smooth and good bitterness, nicely malted. Orangey taste, hop resin, fairly decent drinkability.

Tampa Bay Brewing Co. "Old Elephant Foot IPA"
$6 on tap @ The Brass Tap, Oldsmar, FL

Well you've got to at least love the name! Old Elephant Foot just sounds so English, doesn't it? And yet there are some American hops to it as well. I found it spicy and leafy (and a touch floral), but there's a good bit of pine and citrus to it as well. Beyond that, the malt also remains very English in nature. It's got a clear caramel edge to it that offers both golden and dark caramels, and it's a bit bready and toasty. Where it's American for sure is in it's girth, and in it's bitterness level; in that sense this is kind of an amped up English IPA (which normally tend to be lighter than Americans) - or am I totally backwards on this and it's an American IPA with an English bent? Regardless, it serves the purpose... it's a full-flavored, medium-bodied ale with more strength (7.0%) and a dry and hoppy character - it satiates! Nicely done!
