look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Presentation: .5 liter swing top brown bottle with a “best before end” freshness date on the back label.

Appearance: Solid head retention, deep weathered golden hue with a good clarity.

Smell: Cookie dough malt aroma with a touch of yeast and herbal hops.

Taste & Mouth Feel: Moderate carbonation lacks in crispness yet the mouth feel makes up for it with some creaminess on the tongue. Vaguely metallic with a thin wet malt flavor, toasted biscuit and a long husk flavor is most of the malt character. Hops are mild yet show a bitter bite towards the finish.

Drinkability & Notes: A decent amber lager, more of a quick lunch time beer as I would probably not drink more than one.

Pours a nice rich light copper with a big fluffy white well retained head, aromas of lightly sweet pizza dough and and black pepper I like the beginnings of this brew.Very refreshing and quaffable some may think because of the darker color this lager maybe not as quaffable but they would be wrong here.Taste is toasty and lightly sweet but there is a nice herbal, spicey hoppiness that takes over adding to the drinkability and keeping it balanced.I personally love this beer and this style of beer its hard to find and this one is a gem.

Appearance – This one poured a light, glossy clear orange in color with a modest head.

Smell – This one has a very strong orangy lagerish flavor to the grain. The sugars here are light and I can pick up a bit of toastiness, but not a lot.

Taste – Yes, the grain here is unapologetic and very typical of the style. The light sugars at the finish are mixed with a hint of alcohol.

Mouthfeel – This big, medium-bodied Vienna Lager is incredibly smooth IAW the style requirements.

Drinkability – This is a good Lager that oozes authenticity. The flavors were a little off but the terrific mouthfeel and high drinkability of this effort from Schwelm is a winner.

This beer poured an amber gold , with a half inch of eggshell head. The aroma is of mild husky , and vaguely toasty malt and a slight herbal hop. The taste is of grainy , husky , bisquity , and slightly musty malt qualities , with some more herbal , mildly grassy and bitter hop flavor too balance. Its a very well balanced and easy drinking brew , and the flavors are quite pleasant ; but they are just a tad bit underwhelming or fleeting. Definatly a decent brew to quaff , i can think of much worse beer to be imbibing on this night.

A 500 ml swing top bottle...clear dark gold color, not red enough to be called amber. Big fluffy head of foam that has big pockets and so falls down in less than a minute. Small but sticky and persistent lacing. Aroma is malt-laced, toffee-ish with sweet butter. Mouthfeel is lighter than expected, carbonation is less-than-average overall. Taste starts out fairly well, like the aroma in many elements, but soon mixed with distinct papery tones and an autumn leaves yeasty mustiness that reminds me of old postage stamp hinges for affixing them to collecting albums. Doesn't pull out of this by the aftertaste, more of the pastey qualities seem to come through, and the buttery aroma doesn't mix well. Not as bad as Fischer Amber, but some similarities.

Served in bottle. I have enjoyed their Alt before and thought this would also be good to try. The beer poured a clear golden color with a minimal white head with some carbonation. The smell of the beer is a pleasing caramel, malty aroma with some citrus notes in the background. The taste is a good balance of the caramel malts that I noted in the aroma but there is also some nutty notes in the taste that is enjoyable. This, as the Alt from Schwelmer are easy to drink and give you a nice taste that lingers for a bit.

Striking brass hued with a moderate white head.
Faintly floral aroma, primiarily of lilacs and honey.
Begins dryish, with a biscuit notion, with just a fleeting sense of toast. More doughy and bready later. Become persuasively fruity, heavy of the sweet-leaning apples, with a bright sense of cortland, or gala, or jonared. Honey blossoms joins at this point A well-lagered briskness carries it through a herbal-bent hop closure.
Light bodied, steady of carbonation. Perfectly drinkable.
I wouldn't neccessarily go into this thinking oktoberfestbier, but rather something along the lines of a fruity helles.
I like this one alot.

A great Vienna, picked up in Batavia. Creamy head with dark chocolate and maltiness, nuts and coconuts and in the mouthfeel. Smooth drinker, though on the chocolate milk feeling. Bitterness right at the end.Much was done with little (the purity laws).

Picked up a single at Steve's on University here in Madison. Gotta love those flip-tops.

Pour: light honey-amber, completely transparent, under a cm of off-white head that fizzles to nothing.

Nose: grainy, grassy malts, a little vegetal, some vanilla and a mild citric hop presence.

Taste: dusty, crackery grain, caramel/toffee malts, light fruit, hint of vegetable, light hops tingle.

Feel: smooth, slick and velvety carbonation.

Drinkability/Overall: A nice, malty, fairly tasty little Vienna. Nothing outstanding, but entirely drinkable and smooth going down.

The Bernstein is my favorite of all the Schwelm beers, delivering a distinct maltiness that's really well-balanced and never cloying.

It pours a clear golden-orange with a light brown cast beneath a short and creamy head of white foam. The head retention is fairly good, and it leaves some nice spots of lace about the glass.

The nose delivers a distinctly caramelish and toasty malt along with a smear of lightly floral hops.

The flavor offers the same toasty and caramelish maltiness the nose suggests, but it's fuller and a bit sweeter than might be expected. The floral and spicy hops are more pronounced as well, and although it has a distinct maltiness it's remarkably well-balanced; finishing dry with some residual malt that easily gives way to a slate-like bitterness and gently lingering hop spiciness.

Quite nice!

Plain-ish German lager with some caramel grains. It reminds me of a Euro pale lager with slightly darker grains, like a dumbed down amber ale. There isn't much of a hops profile and the malt isn't too special. It's still smooth and somewhat tasty. Not to bad.

Poured a clear light amber color with an average off-white head that left some light lacing as it dissipated. The smell is not very distinct, it has a light pilsner hop smell, peppery. No real hop in the taste, has some smooth caramel maltiness to it. The feel is light and dry and finishes bitter. Not a bad offering, worth a sampling, not sure if would venture out for it.

A: Poured a beautiful light ruby red color with an initial 1 finger spongey head that quickly receded to a thin film layering.

S: a nice sweet maltiness to it, worty, with a light flowery hopping.

T: The flavor was sweet toasted malt, bready, with a touch of dry flowery hopping. Some light dried fruitiness with a light citrus touch is detected. sweet with a light bitterness that is well balanced and managed makes this a nice drinking amber that drinks like a rich sweet octoberfest.

M: creamy and chewy and very smooth.

D: An easy drinking beer, sweet, smooth and no problem going down. Would definitely buy and try this again.

Swing-top bottle into a 10oz nonik glass.

Fairly vigorous pour yielded not much in terms of head. Smell is pleasantly malty and sweet. Color is a hazed amber gold. Taste is subtle/borderline bland and follows the aroma. Mouthfeel is pretty thin and carbonation pretty low. Not much going on hop-wise. Definitely a strange aftertaste but not as extreme as some reviewers indicate.

Overall, below average and not really worth you time or money. Won't kill you though...

Appearance- Pours a bright, clear, deep, amber color, with a large, foamy, mostly white head. The head looks like it has some staying power, and it leaves behind a nice, sticky lacing.

Smell- Lots of malt sweetness. Almost to much for the style, but it smells delicious. Picking up hints of Munich, Pilsner, and some roasted Vienna malts. Just enough hops to let you know this is a Pilsner. As it warms, you get some caramel notes. Very inviting, although not exactly to style.

Taste- Vienna lagers are hard to grade. This one is definitely better than what comes out of Mexico in the guise of Dos Equqies and Pacifico. Good blend of malt sweetness, maltiness and some bittring hops. Tastes like it was made with very soft water (like a Pils should be). Smooth, yet bold malt taste. Some caramel in there.

Mouthfeel- Medium body. Perfect carbonation level.

Drinkability- Well worth trying. Probably the best Vienna lager I've had outside of Germany,

1/2 liter flip top picked up on Friday from Tres Bonne Cuisine for $3.25.. poured into my small weizen glass ....

Pour produced a short lived 1" head atop a crystal clear lite amber brew.

Aroma is an appealing toasted grain and little else... very clean.

Flavor is again clean toasted malt... very balanced and drinkable.. just enough hoppy bitterness to keep the whole brew very drinkable... lite bready finish... some earthy hop notes raise their head as it warms.

Not much else to say on this one... I will buy it again, but sporadically... this is only my 2nd Schwelmer brew, and so far I am not overly impressed, but I am glad they are actually available in Boise.

App: Bottle has a swing top. Dull, golden color, with a foam head. Mildly opaque.

Smell: Rich, malt smell.

Taste: I think because of the way it bottled with the swing top, I have never had an unfresh tasting Schwelmer. Smooth, yet bold malt taste. Sort of caramelly, I love it.

Mouthfeel: Slightly bubbly in the mouth.Sits easy.

Drinkability: Rich flavor that goes down wonderfully.

This is one of my favorites in a bottle. Has a rich taste, that has always been as fresh tasting as any bottled beer I have had. Definite must to try.

Poured a deep muddy copper hue with a half finger head. There was decent retention and lacing.

The smell was doughy and sweet. No detectable hop presence.

The flavor was sweet and biscuity - strong malt backbone.

The mouthfeel was average. Dry finish.

Overall nothing much of interest. An average malty lager.

My father gave me this bottle... poured in a pilsner glass

A- pours a golden, amber. very clean and clear looking, but looks heavy. two fingers of head, a lot of lacing
S-decent nose, the first thing that hits you is the malt (distinct red smell) and there is a bit of spice
T- good taste to it, very malty full flavor with that slight spice bite to follow
M- heavier than a macro lager, still had some bubbles left
D- felt a little sick about half way through, not full sick just wasn't sitting quite right

This beer was a little light for me.

Appearance: A golden amber as with a lot of beers I have tried lately there was not much for head but some OK lace.

Smell: It had an average lager aroma a little hoppy and floral. There were definately some yeast tones too.

Mouthfeel: Watery and flat.

Drinkability: This beer is nothing special for the price but it does go down easy and has cool bottle.

Poured from a classic style flip top bottle into a rastal pilsner glass. Beautiful white head that formed 2 fingers at the top of the glass. Great malty nose that reminded me of standing in the middle of a brewery. Well balanced, there is a slight hop presence but not "hoppy" at all. Slightly sweet with caramel and toffy notes. Golden color which surprised me since the outside of the bottle says " One of a kind AMBER beer sensation". Overall very refeshing.

cool looking 500ml flip-top brown bottle. best before 10/06/06

makes a surprising pop when the cap is opened. pours a clear light amber color with many small to medium sized bubbles rising evenly throughout the brew. vigorour pour produced a large head, egg shell white in color. settled to a decent foamy lace.

full sweet malty smell. some honey and floral notes. deeper sniffing uncovers aromas of much darker brews, sort of fruity.

flavor is middling? you know, not too light, not too full. leaning towards malt, but not too much sweetness. just enough bitterness. hop flavor does not intrude leaving a fairly clean taste. malt makes its presence felt mostly in the back of the mouth. dont know why you need to know that.

mouthfeel is full and smooth. very nice and easy drinking. vienna would be one of my more favored of the lager varieties, and this was an enjoyable example.

.5 Liter Flip top Bottle.

Pours a good clean amber colored lager. Appearance is similar to Sam Adams.

Smell is sweet and malty with a clean grainy aroma and a herbal hop scent. Lots of caramelized sugar scent here and a tea odor.

Taste is dry and malty with a nice bitterness that hits you in the back of the throat. Flavors of caramel and a bit herbal from the hops.

Mouth feel is good; Carbonation level might be a little high.

Good drinkable beer here not outstanding but not bad at all. I will buy again.

I poured this beer into a mug from a 500ml swing top bottle. The beer pours a crystal clear ruddy copper color with a 1 inch head which settles down to a 1/2 inch fine layer atop the beer. It has a light to medium malty aroma, but there is also a hint of spice. The taste is of bread, very light citrus and is balanced with some spiciness. The mouthfeel is soft and clean and sits very light in the mouth. This was a very easy beer to drink, nice.
