Love this place. Probably one of the best happy hours around. 1/2 off crafts from 4:30-6:30 M-F. Usually a very solid line up too. Stone Enjoy By , Headhunter, and Juju, for 1/2 off? Sign me up. The bar fills up fast, so get there early. Great bartenders, and most of them know craft beer. Very friendly, and cool vibe.

Swanky beer bar during late night. Lights stay low. Usually an energetic crowd and staff. They do well enough to serve quality Tex-Mex fare and good beer. Lines are kept clean and there's a good number of beers on-tap. The bottle list is static, and decent. It's not exceptional for take-out mix sixers, as the price isn't friendly enough. Same problem with their drafts. $1 or $2 more (sometimes $3) than typical. The $9 drafts aren't necessarily upper-echelon offerings.

The draft list rotates at a pedestrian pace, and is usually quite IPA-heavy. They do promos often enough (single brewery tributes with two solid beers from that brewery offered at $5 for a 22oz pour). IPA Fest is a nice spring event, and the summer Beerfest is a must-go-to.

Bar service rocks the house. Great bar staff and wait staff supporting them. Ample beer knowledge from the crew slingin' brewskis. The food is great enough, but the employees know how to push craft draft with a boisterous vibe. I even like the regular crowd.

Two thumbs up.

For whatever reason, I think I like this Mad Mex better than the other locations I have been to. Maybe because it isn't smack in the middle of a shopping center or something. The selection is extensive, as all locations of Mad Mex are. All the rest falls in line, as the other spots do as well.

I've been going here since it opened in 2001. This is the place to go in Robinson for good beer and atmosphere. Happy hour is a great deal but it stops at 6 so you have to be early. The beer selection is always updated every week. Although they have some bottles, primarily go with the drafts. Typically around 20 + beers with very few carry overs from week to week.

Although I have only been here one time, I don't believe I would go back. Stopped in for a drink and ordered a Smuttynose Robust Porter for $5.00 and a Rogue Irish Kelles lager for $9.00. Both on draft. Both glasses were dirty. The Rogue lager was non-carbonated, flat, with no flavor. For $9, I would expect a clean glass and fresh beer. The Smuttynose Robust Porter was outstanding, but I would not have paid $9 for it. This place needs to revisit their pricing. I will never go back because they served old and skunked beer.

I've been here a few times and have put off reviewing it always hoping that the next time will be better. I figured since I'm local to the area that a review from someone who has stopped in here multiple times and can very rarely describe an experience as "good" (4.0/5.0) was in order.

The atmosphere is similar to other Mad Mex's. Dark and Mexican themed with lizard representations, adobe, and metal abounding.

The draft list is rather impressive. Lots of great craft brews on tap-actually its mostly to all good craft beers that I like. Actually its fantastic. Definately the highligh of this place and why I keep trying it again.

The food is pretty good-decent overall. I've had a bad experience or two with the food to taint my mostly good experiences with the food.

My issues are consistently one of the two following things.

1. The quality of the beers offered- IPAs on draft that taste less than fresh, all their beer is served in pint glasses, and just beers I normally would like don't quite get my seal of approval from here.

2. The service. Now I have to say on my most recent trip the bartender was very nice and attentive-but knew little about beer. The biggest slap in the face was a few months ago when I wanted to have a few drinks but the bar was full so I sat at a table adjacent to the bar with some gaming areas...i.e. "bar seating"...the server brought us chips and salsa before taking our order (these are normally free...if you order food). But we just wanted a few drafts. So we were charged for the chips that we did not ask for or order. The place was too busy to ever hear from the server again. I've also had to wait a good bit of time to eat when the place was not very crowded.

Lastly, I would like to say that I love Mad Mex North Hills-and I wish that I had better experiences at the one that is more convinient to me. Both places have the same theming, menu, and very similar great draft lists- But when you add overall unimpressive service, food that is usually good but not consistently prepared, and drafts that don't always taste fresh to the list-Mad Mex Robinson and North Hills are quite different beasts.

It seems that a lot of people really like this place-and I'm not giving up on it yet-but I seem to draw the short end of the stick when it comes to this establishment.

Before I got into craft beer I used to refer to this place as a glorified Taco Bell. I guess more of the meat is real here.

Been to this resturant many times. Love the atmosphere, kind of a laid back its all good feeling. The food is always spicy, which i love, but some may hate. Usually have around 12-15 craft beers on draft. The prices for the beers are overpriced. The food is reasonable. The service is always great, the waiter was increbily friendly and helpful. I always sit at a table but i did notice the great personality the bar tender had. The shift manager stopped by to make sure everything was good. In all, i really enjoy this place but as i said, its spicy american-mexican food, so week stomachs be warned

Well I have to say I love this place. Good to great tap selection with all craft beers and Miller Lite... Trendy looking resteraunt with dim lights and cool artwork around the place. The bar can get pretty packed but I normally can find a spot somewhere close by if so.

The service is always pretty good at the bar, the bartenders there are friendly and know whats good and fresh. I sometimes find myself delving into their impressive Tequila collection, but mostly just beer. They have discounted wings during happy hour, and the burritos there are huge.

The half price drafts during happy hour can't be beat. If youre in Robinson, this is a great place to stop, especially between 5 and 7.

Always the best mexican american food in the business. Home of the Big Azz Margarita ($7 for a 22 oz. drink). The beer selection is always top notch. About 20 craft brews on tap at all times...1 macrobrew at most. Tons of seasonals, they switch the beers frequently here.

The food is awesome. GREAT burritos. Way better than a chipolte. They have wierd stuff mushroom burritos, fried tofu, stuff like that. Its not crazy hot either, just a little spice.

Not Authentic Mexican, but damn close. The Cranberry one is nicer/cleaner...but this is a step up from the Oakland one. overall, great place to hang out.

I saw this one on my way to Bocktown and decided to ask my friends to drop me off after our rendezvous. My buddy, Peter Kozlowski, pointed out that the 28X bus stop should be re-designated as "Port Authority's Mad Mex stop" due to its extreme proximity. As a public transit phreek, I would ride up here alla time, yo!

The entryway was on a corner of the building, so although the m.d.s. and bar were straight ahead, the restaurant area was like the twin forks of a "Y". The more that I visit the M. M's, the more that I realize that ours in SOAK was a wee, tiny anomaly. MMPHL was huge and this one was even bigger. The d├ęcor was the standard mix of rustic and industrial. The overhead in the bar area had driftwood-like planks, plus Ball jars illuminated from within by colored bulbs hung down from nylon line. The restaurant area had exposed ducting, flat black paint, and sound-buffering acoustic tiles. Like I said, industrial.

Food: Man, every time they bring out sizzling fajitas, I begin to drool like Paulou's dog. I have never determined whether it is my auditory or my nasal senses that kick in first, but M. M. fajitas - mmmm!

Beer: 24 taps, 60 BTs and only a few clinkers in the mix. One, Dos Equis, just fits their Tex-Mex, SW theme. Plenty to keep any Advocate happy.

Did I mention the curvy, snaking pebbly-topped bar?

Once again, I have returned many times since. Mad Mex is one of my fave chains and I never miss an opportunity to stop into one when visiting.

Decent restaurant style, nice southwest decor, although I found it a bit bright and sharp; not a place to relax really; I did dig the music, very old southwestern pub like.

The service was quite bad. I understand sometimes servers get busy at 2:00 in the afternoon doing their closing stuff, but that's no reason to make me wait a few minutes to even get a seat. Our server came by mutliple times at first, but then was no where to be found once the food had arrived to check on us and to even get the bill later. She messed up at least one thing on each of our orders (there were three of us), including my wife's steak tacos (she ordered them well done and they came out pink and bloody). There was never a smile or any pleasentness from her. I also hate waiting ten minutes to pay my bill.

The food was all right, what was done properly. Nothing really great, and I certainly expected more for the price. The burrito I got was more of a wrap with rice and beans, very little sauce and quite dry. My daughter didn't care for her enchilada, finding it spicy even though it was supposed to be basic and mild. As mentioned, my wife had to send her steak tacos back.

On a good note, the chicken wings (San Fransisco style) were quite good, both with the sauce and crispiness of skin.

The beer selection was also quite good. I had a Mojo Risin' IPA from Boulder that was tasty and would've loved to stick around and have several more, but I had to get back home for a softball game.

Visited on a Monday afternoon about 1/2 hour before happy hour. Glad we got there early because when happy hour approached, the bar filled up rather quickly.

Atmosphere: Even though the decor of Mad Mex's are similar, I like this Mad Mex the best out of all the Pittsburgh locations. I just wish the bar stools were a bit more comfortable.

Selection is very good and very pricey. They had on tap, Delirium Noel for 9.60 a snifter. This is a good beer but not at that inflated price. Average price for a pint around 6 dollars.

Service is usually pretty good, bartenders are quick with samples of anything you want.

Bottom Line: Happy hour is the best deal with half off pints. They will even fill growlers half off. I also like the Pineapple Salsa, can't be beat.

This is a great Mexican restaurant with quite a selection of craft brews on tap and in bottles. I had three drafts with dinner -- Stone Ruination IPA, Great Divide Old Ruffian Barleywine and Troegs Nugget Nectar. I know, pretty heavy; but with that type of selection, I felt like I had to take advantage of the opportunity. You can also make your own six to carry out for $12. I put togehter a six to go of Oskar Blues Old Chub, Bells Expedition Stout, Troegenattor Double Boch, Anderson Valley IPA, Delirium Tremens, and Victory Prima Pils. The food was great as well... I recommend the chips with chipotle salsa and the veggie enchilada!

I usually visit this place several times a year.I like the atmosphere a little mexician looking not over done'but not real brite very relaxing.The food is very good,I really like the burritos they have many different kinds,I usually try a different one every time I go.Sometimes I just stop in for a beer,later on that subject.They don't give you chips and salsa like some mexican places,they are extra.There salsa is very good they range in heat. They have a slasa and chips sampler I belive it's about 5 bucks.I always get this.I had the chipoltle and the very hot habenaro pineapple it was good.They a big square bar in the back very nice there is about 12 to 15 taps on both sides all micros,sometimes a couple of imports. they also have a growing selection of bottled beers,consisting of micros,imports. and belgiums. What I really like about the drafts is they constently change, you usually don't see to many of the same beers as my last visit, plus the drafts always have the seasonal beers on them. I really enjoy coming here,check it out!

This is the first Mad Mex I've been to, and I thought there were many more, but it's not as spread out as I first though. First off I have to say I was there two years ago, but it was such a good experience that I ended up remembering the experience very well.

It was packed because it was a weekend, but there's a decent amount of space at the bar, tables all over the place, nice lighting, fairly dark inside, and decorated nicely also. The food's like Chi Chi's, I suppose, and I'm not sure exactly what I had food-wise, but it was something spicy (obviously), and Mad Mex definitely rocks it out with the spiciness, and I was feeling it later in my gut.

They have about 20 taps and a fairly large list of bottles (you can check on the website for specifics). On tap (and this was in November) was SN Harvest Ale, Blue Moon, Arrogant Bastard, and many others. I was surprised to no end at the selection, and the prices were also very fair. I think I did, though, pay $3.50 for a bottle of Victory Hop Devil, but that was the first time I had it, and the hoppiness went well with the spiciness of the food. But I know the draft prices are better.

At any rate, I can't speak about the other Mad Mex locations, but the one in Robinson, which is kind of in a plaza-like structure with many stores around it, is in a nice area, I think is still fairly new, and certainly worth checking out. Even if you don't like Mexican food, you can definitely go to hang out at the bar and drink some beers, because they have a lot, and a lot of good stuff to boot.

Mad Mex is a Mexican restaurant that has a very good beer selections. Going to this place, I thought that I would see multiple taps of Corona, but I was really surprised to see selections such as Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout. The service was good, and the beer comes with complimentary tortilla chips with salsa. The prices are reasonable. The bar has about twenty taps with many seasonal selections that a person would not expect to find at a less respectable beer bar. They also have an decent bottle selection.

Atmosphere: Well, I've never been to Mexico, but Mad Mex seems fairly authentic. The reddish-colored walls and lizard decorations seem just like every villa I've seen in a movie. As for clientele, it seems to have an interesting, youthful feel about it. Tonight, I went for happy hour, and there were several single young ladies for once beer is hip!

Quality/Selection: Mad Mex features a nice selection of beers. As mentioned, they have a few interesting bottles (Chimay, Delirium, in addition to the Corona cliche), but the taps are what stand out. The number of taps is above average (about 20), but there is no crap on tap. In addition to Dos Equis, and the hoppy beers that go so well with Mexican (Sierra Nevada, Red Seal) , Mad Mex also has a wonderful selection that may not go with the food, but are a pleasure to see nonetheless (Delirium Tremens, Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, and currently Mad Elf!). Prices are reasonable...the house brew Big B Brew is 4 dollars, up to 7 for the Delirium, with most of them about 4.50 or 5 dollars.

Service: I've got no complaints about the service. Drinks orders have always been filled quickly, and I haven't had to wait too long for my tab. In addition, they bring out their homemade tortilla chips (with salsa) with your beer, and though it may be damaging to the pallate, it's still a nice touch.

Food: I haven't eaten here save for the free chips, so I can't really comment here. The chips were delicious, along with a simply fantastic margarita-lime salsa that was just out of this world.

An excellent destination for a beer...not just Corona neons like most restaurants, but a beer menu as good as any in town. In the future, I'll have to actually try out the food, and I'm certainly looking forward to that.

In exile in Western Pennsylvania for 13 weeks, I've been scouting out brewpubs and beerbars primarily in Pittsburgh. What I didn't realize is that Mad Mex was located about a mile and a half from my hotel out near the airport 'til I spotted it one night.
You know, they've got so many of these cheesy chain restaurants in the area that passing by, you wouldn't think anything of it. Hmmmmn, Mexican. Do we want to eat at Don Pablo's over there, Baja Grille over there, or at Mad Mex over there? They're all pretty much on the same one mile strip (go to Mad Mex).
It takes up the ground floor of a 4 or 5 story building and has an outside eating area. The interior seems somewhat dimly lit, with pleasantly strange paintings and sculptures of animal shapes and skeletons riding bicycles and stuff.
They've got 24 taps pouring some decent goodies (Brooklyn, Heavyweight, Victory, Troeg's, Stone, Penn, Stoudt's, Chimay, etc). Damn, I drank the Young's Luxury Chocolate Stout in a Mexican restaurant outside of Pittsburgh!!
They also have roughly 3 dozen bottles, also not too shabby (Anchor, Sierra Nevada, Brooklyn, Rogue, Anderson Valley, Corsendonk, Chimay, etc).
Food is standard Mexican fare, done nicely. I did the steak burrito and the tortilla soup, no complaints. Food was good, service was good, beer selection is better than good.

Atmosphere is awesome modern and hip, this place puts a great twist on tex mex style food and awesome beer. This place is fun, young, and exciting. Great mix of music between chilled out jazz, upbeat salsa and Gypsy Kings style music. Very cool everything from the furniture to the lighting of the bar area. The quality of this place is great this is no dime a dozen chain restaurant, it's a well done chain with only four locations. In my opinion this place is going to take off serving great imports and micros will lead them in the right direction no Anheuser - Busch, Miller, or Coors to be seen on tap. Waitresses are young and cute basically hired for personality and good looks and they are trying to be beer saavy but one girl told me the Victory Hop Devil and St. Boisterous Maibock were very similar in taste, then I realized they were just learning about beer. Service is prompt and they are helpful in making selections from the fairly extensive menu. The draft list has about 25-30 quality taps to name a few: Rogue Dead Guy, Bigfoot Barleywine, Stoudt's Weizen (sold as Big B's Haus Summer ale), Red Seal Amber, Chimay White and many other quality beers. Decent bottle selection but I would depend ont their draft list for the most part. Food is awesome and affordable to great combonations, huge burrtios for like 6-8 bucks along with fajitas and other spiced up Mexican specialities. Not a Chi-Chi's knock this place has their own style not trying to be authentic Mexican. In a lot of their dishes they pull an Emeril and they "kick it up a notch", at least from the cup of chilli and burrito I had.
