Review taken in July 2013.
Got it from Tanakaya in Mejiro, Tokyo. Poured into a mug. Beautiful deep/dark off-golden color; great creamy head dissipates slowly.
T - OMG.... really easy to drink and just packed with deep complex, delicious rice-lager flavor. This is seriously one of the best beers I've ever had. You can tell it was made both professionally and with tons of care and stands up against the greatest of breweries (Hill Farmstead, Russian River.. etc). Light, balanced hoppiness. Dry finish.
M - Medium light. There's a touch bit more to it than the 'standard' rice lagers.
O - For awhile I was thinking Koshihikari Echigo was the best Japanese Rice Lager... till I had this. This is definitely craft brewing at its best; Whilst not discarding tradition, Swan Lake has simply upped the game. I can imagine this beer goes great with just about any food and its refreshing ease of drinking paired with it's depth of flavor and balance makes it perhaps the best beer in the world! I haven't seen this in the USA, but if it was available here, it would be my #1 go-to beer for just about every occasion. Definitely coming back to Japan to get this again.

Bought a bottle of this from Tanakaya in Mejiro, Tokyo. Poured into a Baird pint glass. Gold cup winner in Japan and a first for rice-based lagers. This brew brings the rice to the forefront by focusing on high-quality Koshihikari rice grains. The appearance is a light clear wheat that looks like a sunrise with a thick white marshmallow head. The flavor is definitely different from other beers, clearly focused on showcasing a rice flavor. It does this supremely well, and I can almost taste the husks of unpolished rice. It is a very pleasant brew, and I enjoyed this lager as much as I would an ale. Loved it!
