Flume is our flagship Double IPA. A blend of traditional English malts combined with loads of wheat and oats give this double IPA a soft, clean malt profile. We hop this beer intensely, with Citra and Mosaic, imparting huge notes of tropical fruit, citrus and pine.

16oz can, purchased at Battery Steele on 6.16.17, poured into a Trillium Permutation Series stemmed glass. Enjoyed on 6.30.17, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a bright golden copper color, straw hues that is lightly hazy with a foamy white head, two fingers tall with great retention and lace. The aroma is great, very fruit, lots of tropical pineapple and papaya, citrusy with some tangy and bitter rind, nice bright floral bouquet accentuates the fruitier aromas while some hop spice and pine balance this nicely with some pale grain and mild alcohol. The flavors are very good, quite juicy, lots of tropical fruit and citrus, floral without being herbal or medicinal, bright and delicate with some hop spice adding some oomph while a bit grassy and pinier hops balance the beer that finishes with a bready and grassy flavor. The mouthfeel is good, coating, medium body that is nice and lively, smooth finish that is somewhat dry.

Verdict: A great DIPA from Battery Steele. Really bright and fruit forward, easy going, balanced, delicate, yet another NEIPA that hits the spot.

Look: Poured from a cab into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Beautiful cop-perish hue. Hazy and opaque. Foamy head that subsides to islands of lacy foam.

Smell: Big tropical nose. Especially mango, apricot, grapefruit and pine.

Taste: Not as full as the nose might suggest. Pleasant tropical flavors with grapefruit and pine. Nice hop balance on the finish. Not too bitter. Thirst-quenching. Great summer beer.

Feel: Juicy and smooth. Low carbonation.

Overall: Very good DIPA. I don’t drink a lot I. This style, but this is good drinking.

Battery Steele Brewing IPA - Imperial/Double

Love the wheat and oats malty adjuncts. Provides a solid malty structure in which the Piney and Citrus hop blast can shine. Grainy, earthy, bitter tones dominate the finish as it seems to ride on forever. Peppery, dry bitterness is on the high end.

on draft at Abel's Lobster on Mount Desert Island. Served in a uniquely shaped Battery Steel pint glass

Totally opaque orange yellow in color, think white head. Fruity and dank. Enough bitterness, nice soft feel.

Very good. Don't let the nose fool you. It doesn't have the strongest aroma, but the test is fantastic. It takes on almost 2 different phases of taste profiles while in your mouth: starting with a typical DIPA bitterness, then swiftly moving to New England style, mild sweetness that are complex, happy, and difficult to compare to other foods (i.e. not necessarily fruity).
