Can dated 08/7/17.
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a nice looking murky to hazy burnt orange color with a sustaining finger's worth of white foamy head that slid off at a moderate pace. Lace tried to stick but slid for the most part.
The aroma had some orange to mango sweetness with a danky sweet onion then a light lime and some smooth grassy sweet hops accompanying a smooth cracker malt bill.
The flavor was moderately sweet with a substantial juiciness running about, still, it pulled in a nice balancing maltiness that shaped the final overall taste very nicely. Light danky onion. Mild tropical sweet aftertaste with a little bit of danky sweet onion.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it - enough body to show me the right kind of weight for a DIPA. Carbonation felt appropriate. ABV felt on par. Slight bitter to juicy sweet sort of finish.
Overall, pretty damn nice DIPA well worthy of having again.

This was yet another beer that I traded for a while ago as the date on the bottom of the can read 7/14/17 with DDH EL DORADO, AMARILLO, MOSA written underneath that. Never had a beer from Battery Steele before and since this was from Maine, I got the impression that this would be an easily enjoyable, nicely crafted New England IPA, which is exactly what this turned out to be!

Nice, golden hue to this beer that was cloudy and topped off with plenty of somewhat-quickly settling head. Only a few thin rings of lacing stuck around along the back side of my pint glass as I sipped this. Apricot, stone fruit, nectar, dank hops, and subtle flora notes came through in the aroma as the taste was balanced, doughy, and oddly reminiscent of wet dew. Lots going on here but nothing overpowered everything else as the aftertaste was tingly and minty on my teeth, with a bit of gumdrop keeping things sweet and lively.

This felt stronger than it was in actuality because the alcohol complemented the flavors and the hops that were present, especially the Mosaic. Plenty to proverbially and literally chew on here even though this didn't break any new ground. If you love the style or IPA's in general, this would easily suffice but it's not one that would anybody over to it from what's preferable...

Hazy gold color. Small white head, some lace.
Sweet fruit, perfume. Sweet malt background.
Berry taste, probably strawberries. Some orange. A little caramel.
A pleasant beer. Will drink this anytime.

A- Very slightly hazy pale golden yellow body pours from the tallboy to a snifter. A fluffy white head rises to one finger high with decent retention. A small ring leaves spotty lacing.

S- Dank and tropical/stone fruity hops in a fairly pungent aroma. Dank sticky skunky weed, passionfruit, mango, melon, mint, bubble gum, onion and tangerines.

T- Things shift around quite a bit compared to the aroma with a strong floral and resinous flavor coming out. An intense concentrated citrus zest flavor also shows up. Overall strong grapefruit, dank herbs and pine resin lead to creamsicle, melon, woodsy, apricot, mango, tangerine and onion hop flavors.

MF- Medium-heavy body and a high level of carbonation. The texture is somewhat creamy and foamy. Intense sharp concentrated citrus bitterness ends the experience in the finish.

A very pleasant and balanced aroma of dank and fruity hops shifts towards a more sharp citrus and bitter experience on the taste buds. I have been having this happen more and more lately. Is it the sheer amount of hops or some sort of concentrated hop product (the intense concentrated citrus bitterness burn)? Still rather good but more translation from the aroma to the palate would make it fantastic.

Can. A bright colored beer. Pours mildly hazy but it glows with pride and vigor. Good head. Aroma falls into the "sorta west coast IPA, sorta east coast IPA" sweet and fruity. There is also that tangy, pithy, punch from it's West Coast bloodline. Taste hits you with some immediate, urgent, tangy-hoppiness. Minimal maltiness; just some sweetness for sweetness' sake. Pretty decent even though I have exhausted myself with this style.

A: Pours a copper color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a thin cap that leaves good lacing

S: A good mix of citrus, pine, and earthy/grassy hops up front along with some lighter caramel maltiness

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with the citrus and pine and then goes into some grassy hops and moderately sweet maltiness that balances the bitterness. Finishes with lingering hop notes

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: A very good DIPA that is extremely well balanced. Super easy to drink as well. Definitely check it out

Not for me. There’s a super bitter hop the burns the throat a bit.

L - pours a vaguely hazy orange with yellow character. Neat head. Really compactly foamy on the bottom layer with larger, more coarsely packed bubbles on top. Looks appealing.

S - bright and dank at the same time. Pithy lemon and grapefruit candy. Sweet sourdough and freeze-dried apricots.

T - doughy, gritty orange and lemon twist. I thought maybe a hint of vanilla but it's more like the sugary sweetness of preserved fruit. Resinous and floral undertones shine through the dank. Lemon-lime. Lingering tingling bitterness.

F - soft and supple, but drinkable. Expected a bit more heft from a ripe beer such as this though.

O - all around solid. Only complaint is that things feel marginally thin, which I've noticed on both Battery Steele brews I've had so far. Nice flavor with great notes of ripe candied fruit and sticky hops.

Poured from a 16 oz can into a tulip glass.

Pours a lightly hazy golden color with 2-fingers of effervescent white head. The head leaves a good amount of cobweb lacing as it settles into a soapy halo.

The aroma brings lots of orange and mango, with a touch of sweet berries. A strong toasted malt backbone is there to provide balance.

The taste is full of berries, candied orange, and sweet caramel malt. Pleasant, but not a lot going on.

The feel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Very creamy and smooth, but a fair amount of warming from the alcohol.

Overall, a very good DIPA that is relatively well-balanced but doesn't really stand out. It's a bit on the sweeter side, and the alcohol is definitely present. Still, a good beer that is definitely worth trying.
